[RELz] Wrye Bash - Thread #92

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:33 pm

The only plugins.txt I could find is in C:user\...\My Games\Oblivion\saves. Not sure if that is the right one as it was supposedly last changed in April, and does not reflect my current LO. in any case, "Speedy Disrobe OBSE.esp" is not listed in there.
No, the plugins.txt is in "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Skyrim\plugins.txt" on Windows Vista/7. If you're using XP, you'll have to google it, try "local app data folder" or something.

Since the sluggishness of the UI is more of a problem for Oblivion players than Skyrim players I'm posting this fix here so people can have a little hope (and the brave can prepare to do some testing).

Arthmoor,

I've reverted some of the changes made when BAPI was introduced to handle the new Skyrim load order. Lojack had created some new objects that tied directly to the BAPI functions so that by simply adding and removing items from the lists, the changes would be pushed through to BOSS and any data updated by BOSS would automatically be seen. A great idea in theory, why keep a copy of data that has to be manually refreshed every time something is changed? The answer seems to be performance.

I've returned the code to the old model of working from local lists of mods that have to be explicitly saved and loaded to register any changes and it's like using the Pre-BAPI versions (or close enough).

Now it's just a matter of seeing what breaks and forcing the correct refreshes of the data. I think I've got all of them, but Bash is so big and complex it's hard to tell. (I've also got a few #CDC labels scattered at points where I'm expecting there might be problems if we find something doesn't work. I was working by comparing the revision 2318 just before BAPI was added to 2319 just after and also to the recent 2470. But I've built the diff against the current 2477 revision.)

The forum ate my code. Arthmoor would you like to give me a little more access to the project or should I just open a new bug and attach the files that way. It seems I can't attach files to anyone else's bug.

Open a new bug. I was actually trying to find some way to allow attachments from non-project members but for some baffling reason it seems there's no settings to allow that.

I don't know if that's buried in some super secret admin panel I don't have access to or if that's Sourceforge's silly idea but it makes things a pain considering the forum likes to add unnecessary spaces to every single code post.

Or just stick it on your other yellow flagged bug that's still open. We'll figure it out :P

Attaching files the wrong bug is an ugly hack, but done.

Finally found it, Win7 really hides everything.
Since Speedy Disrobe was not listed, I restored BOSS's api folder and everything still works fine. Restarting my PC must have done something, although I still have no idea why it was looking for Speedy Disrobe - I had restarted my PC several times since I had uninstalled it.

@cdcooley: I've applied your patches on my local copy but they don't appear to have made the slightest bit of difference in UI responsiveness. It still takes eons to drag a mod to a new position and the ctrl+arrow method is still taking 2-3 secs to move one slot up or down. Which still leads me to wonder if there's a point at which Bash just has too many mods to manage and perhaps I'm past the threshold?

So everything is working fine again with the latest SVN?

295.5 was smooth as silk with my 450+ ESPs.

Now, notsomuch.

Yep, using SVN 2476, auto-ghost is on, BOSS's api folder is restored, Speedy Disrobe uninstalled and Bash starts fine and there are no LO mismatches.
So Thank You very much for your hard work on Bash (and BOSS).

Now that's very strange. There is still more delay than I had with 295.5 but it's much improved over the other SVNs for me. Interestingly the first move I make of a session is slower than all of the others but still a great deal faster than before. I loaded up about 140 plugins with about 100 of them active and another 30 merged into a bashed patch on the Oblivion side and things are back to usable.

On the Skyrim side I haven't even downloaded more than about 40 mods total so I never really saw much of a lag there anyway.

How many saved games do you have? One thing that I did notice is that every time you modify your mods the saved game status info also gets updated. I wonder if it's not only a matter of the number of mods but also the number of saves. My Skyrim folder only has about 12 saves and my Oblivion folder only about twice that.

Ooookay, I need help again, please.

I had applied the fix (from the other forum) of editing my basher.py and adding the "import datetime" function. Which fixed that, but then I began having the same problem as Blade of Mercy, where the bashpatch won't rebuild. So I rolled back to the 296 standalone- Seemed to work fine, rebuilt my patch. Entered the game. Exited, opened OBMM, un-installed Vanilla Race Deluxe. Then, because, I was in there, installed Knights Cobl and Let the People Drink. Exited and installed OBME. Went to pull up Wrye so I could re-order and rebuild again... and it's crashing again! AND since I'm using the standalone, there is no basher.py for me to edit. What am I doing wrong that is breaking Wrye Bash? Is it Vanilla Race Deluxe?

I have 278 plugin files, with 179 active. Many merges. 12 save files. The interface lag is definitely still a problem, it even takes it a noticeable amount of time to respond if I switch back into the window from somewhere else. Slow enough that if I try to switch out again Windows minimizes the app I'm trying to switch out to, which just makes Bash do whatever it was trying to do all over again. It's been this way since BAPI was introduced.

I haven't committed these changes to the SVN yet but I suppose I can so we can see if it helps with anyone else. I don't really know why it hasn't helped on my end.

...So I tried building with cbash instead. Seemed to build fine- except now I have "WTF? I'm a missing mesh!" stars all over the place. I can't win for losing. Bah, humbug.

That should have nothing at all to do with Bash. That is something else going wrong.

Ah, well, I did nothing else except re-build the patch with a different command- cbash instead of bash, and the spots mostly seem to be in places where the UOP fixes meshes- the floor of the inn, etc. That's why I thought it was cbash. But perhaps streamline did it? Although I don't see how, I'm not real up on these things. I'll keep messing with it, thanks for the prompt help.

Get FormIDFinder or Refscope to determine what meshes are missing.

I've got 297.1 - figured out my BOSS issue, but it seems that bash is messed up.

I can run BOSS and get a load order - it looks good in OBMM, but in bash I get a screwed up load order with Oblivion.esm stuck at 06 and no ability to change the position of it. (no drag and drop and no ctr+arrow keys work and clicking the load order upper bar does not change the order or reverse them and neither does sort by load order):Active Mod Files:

I am getting crashing on game load and so this is prime suspect.

[edit] oops well one thing I forgot to do was run the installer for any missing python components - did that then put 297.1 on top of that and still get all the same results above.

plugins.txt seems to have the load order right, so confused on this. This is a load order that last I touched it was working great.

Or just update your SVN copy again. There was a flurry of fixes in the last 24 hrs that are supposed to correct all of that.

I did take atmospheric loading screens and DarnUI out for testing purposes - not sure why that would crash bash though.

This is beginning to be really annoy me. I can easily confirm the problem. BOSS is throwing an error back when I've simply asked it to give it's current view of the Active plugins in "plugins.txt".

I'll make a quick test to see if it can be fixed from the Bash side or if it's a BOSS problem with WrinklyNinja's new code.
OK, I've just confirmed that it's in the new BAPI DLLs which fixes the problem with Ghosted mods. Unfortunately, now it has also changed how it handles a plugins.txt file with mods that aren't in your mods folder. I'll see if it's an error that can be caught and bypassed by the Bash code.

It's a change on the BAPI DLL side that's a real problem. If BOSS is detecting a missing file from the plugins.txt file it's simply returning an error.

WrinklyNinja is going to have to fix this one or we're going to have to go back to reading the plugins.txt file in the Bash code instead of using BAPI for that.

The behavior we need from BAPI is for the GetActivePlugins call to ALWAYS return what it can. If the list has invalid entries they can (and probably should) be filtered out, but simply returning an error and and empty list is worse than useless.

Should be fixed in latest SVN.

Well it loads and seems to bash ok.

Still testing and proding my load order and simply disabling Kvatch rebuilt and I get this:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "F:\Bethesda Games\Oblivion\Mopy\bash\basher.py", line 2082, in OnLeftDown
self.checkUncheckMod(self.items[hitItem])

self.unselect(selFile,False)
File "F:\Bethesda Games\Oblivion\Mopy\bash\bosh.py", line 5664, in unselect
self.plugins.selected.remove(fileName)
ValueError: list.remove(x): x not in list
And it won't let me disable it.
