[RELZ] Wrye Bash -- Thread No. 41

I used wyre 01 for my install can i just download wyre 02 and install over the top of the other for the updates or do I need to do a total reinstall of everthing?

Just install Wrye 02.

Yes, install 02 over 01. Just remember that in future, you don't need to install 01 at all.

I came to the conclusion that I do not clearly understand how Bashed Patch works in terms of which mods imported into it should I deactivate and which should I leave active. Can someone give me a hand here?

Your load order is unnecessary. Deactivate all green-text, purple-text and italicized-text plugins.

A mod's readme should be the one explaining what you should be doing with them in Bash, if anything. If they don't, then we're all guessing based on the best information we all have, and the tags in BOSS are how that information is put to use. In most cases it should be fine to let whatever BOSS and Bash decide on.

And after creating the bashed patch use the mod checker icon (at the bottom of wrye bash window, next to the help icon), it will tell you any further actions you need to take.

Oh and a feature request for BAIN, a way to open the readme of a package in the 'right-click-menu'. Currently the only way to view the readme is to either install the mod or unpack/open it with another program. It would be awesome if you can do that within BAIN. :)

Maybe it can work like finding a txt/rtf/html file with the word "readme" in it, I doubt most mods will have multiple files that pass this criteria.

Or am I missing something obvious and this can already be done. :unsure:

I've missed a few WB threads, so forgive me if I'm behind the times, but I've got a couple of requests for Wizard functionality:

1. Renaming files. I'm thinking primarily BSAs and plugins, as a large number of OMOD scripts include renaming bits, so I think it would be useful for BAIN to have an equivalent.

2. Editing config files other than Oblivion.esm. I know you've got INI Tweaks/ for editing Oblivion.ini, but is there a way to edit an ini added by the mod you are installing, similar to OBMM's EditXMLReplace and EditXMLLine?

Also, is making Wizards enabled by default (and possibly also auto annealing them) planned? I'm not too keen on having to tell the user to enable Wizard installs to install my mod, that sort of functionality should be default IMHO.

1. I'm trying to think of a good way to implement that fits in with the style of BAIN. It shouldn't be to hard based on the way BAIN is designed, but will take some work. Anyway, it's on my mind. Waruddar might have a plan on this, too. He's way more knowledgeable on BAIN than I am.
2. Again, I've been thinking about this lately as well. Trying to think of a way to fit in with BAIN's install philosophy, where most of the installing is controlled by the user.
3. The only reason Wizards aren't enabled by default is that they require the PyWin32 library, and some comlained about it. As far as auto-annealing, there is an option (disabled by default) to auto- install (or anneal, as appropriate) a package after running its wizard.
4. Readmes - this is a fairly common BAIN request. Will look into it.

Request have been added to the tracker at https://sourceforge.net/projects/oblivionworks/, so they wont be forgotten. Thanks for the feedback.

Are you sure?
With default settings Wrye Python 2 installs in Directory c:\Python26 while Wrye Python 1 is in c:\Python25.
I would recommend to uninstall Python 25 first.

Using 283, I am seeing some things in italics that I do not think I should be deactivating. Stuff like Better Cities - Thievery.esp, the skingradoutskirts patch, companionmaster.esp, xulaspenwood.esp, and more... none of which are tagged with deactivate, nor should they from what I can tell. So why are they showing up in italics?

close out of bash and than restart it..i noticed this too but it goes away with a new bash window :)

With default settings Wrye Python 2 installs in Directory c:\Python26 while Wrye Python 1 is in c:\Python25.
I would recommend to uninstall Python 25 first.

If you don't use it there is no reason to keep Python 2.5 but it is harmless to have multiple python versions on your system (the only exception being you have to know which one is set to execute python files by default when you double click - will be latest installed one unless the user manually deselects that)... I have 4 python versions; 2.5 (for making sure I don't break things for older setups, 2.6 (main dev), 2.7 (testing, don't really use it though), 3.1 (new dev environ for the newest nifscripts/PyFFI - going up to Python 3.1 (though maintining a 2x branch for a while yet on those) with Blender).
@@Mashani (and BadCompany): that error was fixe a while ago and is in 284 - which hopefully will be released tomorrow.

Haven't you heard of running multiple versions of a programming language base?


I have, but I do not know the reason for keeping Python25 and 26.
If you know a good reason please let me know.

If you are not experimenting or testing anything, then there is not a good reason. There are tons of reason for testers and programmers to do that. :)

  • Bashed Patch changes:
    • Actors.DeathItems moved (back) to seperate patcher for better Warcry & FCOM ease of use (and similar issues).
    • New Patcher: Import Spells - Actors.Spells and spellsOnly tags added for it, basically invent for spells.
    • RacePatcher changes:
      • Left eye import fix (contributed by Valda68k)

  • comtypes is optional now. It is required for a couple function but most have work arounds enabled (ie Bashed Patch log loads in default internet browser) and Wrye Bash will work without it (features currently without workarounds are: the PM Archive panel, Doc Browser).
  • You can delete Installers and INI Edits with the Delete key now.
  • You can rearrange Load Order/Install Order on the Mods Tab and Installers Tab by dragging and dropping.

the reason it is designated RC1 is the er rather large size of the changes for this version.

Nice update, thanks.

I have an issue though, not sure if it due my own doing or that it has been reported already, but since it is hard to reproduce it, I should mention it anyways.

I am using BAIN right now for all my packages. I have converted loads of regular OMOD and non-BAIN achieves to a proper BAIN structure.

If I fully install/uninstall my BAIN list - 2/10 times files stay left behind. Either some FCOM files or MMM, but it seems pretty random. Since I know exactly what files have to be in my folder without initializing BAIN, it no longer forms a real problem (just a slight annoyance).

Now the following which is.. weird, just does not make any sense.

As can be seen in my %obliviondir% ALL files from Shivering Isles are present, however BAIN tells me they are missing. I only installed SI (with Cobl & Cosmetics) to test some newer textures, so that should not cause any issues.

Anyone knows why BAIN does this? I already used the "Refresh Data" option but has not got me any further. If I delete the orphan files, and reinitialize a install/uninstall then the issue is gone. It still seems weird, tho.

I know that Shivering Isles files are specifically excluded from being installed by BAIN. There's a very good reason why the installer has to be used to install SI, and BAIN won't touch any vanilla SI files, or any vanilla Oblivion files.

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but is it possible for end-users (with some programming knowledge) to add their own Tweak Assorted or Tweak Settings commands to Bashed Patches? It seems like there's a lot of potential there for customization, for example if someone wanted all weapons to deal more damage, or a certain class of items to have more value, etc... I'm sure we could ask you to implement the tweaks, but that's not as flexible or as quick as implementing it ourselves.
