[RELZ] Wrye Bash -- Thread 47

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 12:42 pm

Please update to the newest version (287) and see if that resolves your issue. Many, many bugs were fixed in the 286 release, and 287 fixed a bug introduced by 286.

If that doesn't work, please post the actual error message. Just copy/paste the entire message that Bash gives. There are many things that can result in "list index out of range", and I need more information to identify the problem. The load order can be useful, but it really doesn't tell me anything unless I have the complete error message.

Is Cbash enabled WB working fine? As in, it doesn't spit out errors that some peiople had earlier reported in v285 (if I remember correctly)?

Also, is the v287 on Nexus at the moment good to go? The thread tagline still states v286 coming soon...

BTW: The YoungerHotterNPC mod not being imported issue is still there in v287:

Check ModsThis is a report on your currently active/merged mods. NoMerge Tagged ModsFollowing mods are tagged NoMerge and should be deactivate and imported into the bashed patch but are currently active. ? Younger Hotter NPC's v1.0.esp

Thanks, the newest version fixed the problem! No idea why I didn't see it there in the downloads area before...

Probably because TESNexus sometimes fails to note some updates in its "Updates" sections. There are a few times I would have missed things if not for these threads.

By the way, no the "list index out of range" errors aren't connected to the number of active mods. I think I have only had too many once or twice, but as I recall it pops up a handy message saying that it has deactivated a few (to reduce it to the limit) without spewing out an error report at all. ;) (although for all I know that may have changed.)

I've recently upgraded to version 287 and for some reason I can't seem to use the quick load button for OBMM(I could use it just fine with version 285) I get this error instead:

To be honest I don't know, but you should activate it if you're using any custom race based on the cute elf mod or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27302 (require http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25023).

But I don't see any reason why you should use it if your games is normal. :)

I'm back with a couple more of my dumb questions on the road to BAIN enlightenment, this time related to AWLS.

First, I've been running AWLS from the get-go. It was one of the very first mods I installed. It's worked flawlessly every since. But I installed it as an OMOD, with that format's very nice scripted option-choice menus, making selecting the exact features I want a breeze. But I'm now converting everything (with a few unavoidable exceptions) to BAIN, including AWLS, so need to install it as 7z packages. The two packages are BAIN friendly, making much of the work a no-brainer so long as one remembers which selectable option choices one wants to pick.

After all this time I had forgotten. No biggie. I just re-activated my OMOD, went through choice selection, wrote everything down on paper, then deactivated the OMOD and opened Wrye Bash, where the two AWLS packages arrived reside in the installers sub-directory.

Here my problem. When installing the Texture Pack via OMOD, I mostly chose the "Brumbek Recommended options". For instance, Leyawiin has a number of Window options, one being "Orange - Brumbek Recommended". That's what I want. Only, while every other Leyawinn window option is present in BAIN, Orange-Brumbek is missing. That's true elsewhere too. My best guess is that the Brumbek Recommended options are part of the "Core" files, which I of course selected for installation. If so, the Brumbeks will automatically install except in those cases where I deliberately chose other alternatives (such as curtains in Anvil). But I don't know for sure, and am not yet familiar enough with BAIN to second-guess it. Am I right and have nothing to worry about or is there something more I need to do to get the options I want?

While on the subject of AWLS, many of its files conflict with the various Unofficial Patches and/or their hot-fixes. Can I automatically assume that AWLS should be given priority to overwrite them? If not, how does one handle that in BAIN? (I could do most of this stuff in my sleep with OMODs, but again just don't yet understand BAIN well enough yet.)

Thanks for your patience!

Just check the Conflicts window, it tells you what installed, missing, conflicting,whatever...
If you want to overwrite a mod, change the Install order..

Bsa files. Funny that you bring them up. Oddly enough, I started looking into how best to make Bash handle these a few days ago. The team is discussing options, so I can't say what our plans are. We are planning something though :ninja:

Currently the MMM bsa cause some problems when installed with anything other than OBMM. This is because OBMM redates the files when it install them.

Because the MMM.bsa has a date that is newer than most texture replacement files, those files will not be used.

In addition the MMM bsa contain replacement files for some vanilla files, some of those files are only found in the vanilla bsa. In that case Oblivion does not use the replacement files in the MMM bsa.

So my suggestion is that BAIN should redate any bsa to 01-01-2006 and unpack any replacement files from a bsa, and install them in the data\* folders. This should ensure that everything gets installed and replaced corretly.

I say redate to 2007 or 01-02-2006 if choosing a fixed date because it is later than that of the original BSAs. Extracting BSAs is a different story. That sounds really impractical. It take enough time to install them. We should just depend on modders to pack their mods optimally. CorePC will take care of the MMM BSA, so there is no reason to post about it, specifically, here...

AWLS should have very high priority. Only overwrite it with specific texture replacers. It is one of the few mods that should overwrite BC, which should also have high priority. AWLS is already BAIN-ready and the TESNexus page offers very clear installation instructions. I use AWLS as well, so you can reference my package list to see where it (and couple hundred other visual enhancements) should be arranged.

My BAIN Package List - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=my_bain_package_list <-- With regard to texture replacers, outside of putting the big replacer before the specific replacers, the ordering is up to you, what you want to see in the game.

Out of the UOPs, I believe the latest supplement 329 by Arthmoor is the only one with any files that should overwrite AWLS.

As for your choices just go to the city affected, save, load up wrye bash and try the different sub-package options for that area (just remember where they are numbered the same like the 11 QTP3 options, only one should be chosen - I am using CorePCs Vibrant collection so no QTP3 options are selected), then load game and see what you prefer. A bit long winded but you can tailor a different feel for each of them. Bruma for me seems like thick curtains and an orange glow emitting from the windows is appropriate for such a cold place.... just imagine being an inhabitant of the area, cold warm rich poor extravagant

Thanks Tomlong. I expanded the Textures 7z and found the AWLS BAIN install guide. Opened it with OpenOffice Writer. VOILA! It explained everything very well, with detailed pictures to make selection that much easier. As expected, my assumption that the Brumbek Orange choices were defaults and thus lacked a BAIN checkable option was correct. And yeah, AWLS should likely be installed fairly late so that nothing overwrites its changes (without good reason). I of course knew that. (I was just lucky installing AWLS so early my first go-round. In all the time since then, I added almost no conflicting mods later on. A very few files from the UOP Hotfix were about it.)

AWLS has been good for me in that it's my first experience with a "complex" package. I have a better feel for them now. Still don't trust myself to create my own, but that'll surely come as I convert more of my OMODs to BAIN packages. Heck, at the rate I'm going I figure I'll be able to play Oblivion again in as little as three years. :twirl:

NB the hotfix in the name of the first bain I have is just the 320 + patch incorporated, not the recent supplement.... see below

Thanks for the image. Very helpful! I saved it to my hard drive for easy recall. I notice your first package (order wise) is titled UOP_3_2_0_and-hotfix-5296.rar. Then of course later (after AWLS) comes hotfix 3_2_9. May I assume you did as I did with my old OMOD install and originally created your UOP package from a combination of the original UOP files plus the then-current hotfix, but now add new hotfixes as their own package? Starting afresh as I am, this time I kept UOP pure and kept the hotfix a separate package, so that it can easily be moved below AWLS (and anything else it needs to overwrite).

I see I'm gonna have to add in those nice sectional dividers. They look to make things much easier, organization wise.

Thanks again!

Number 1 in my list is just the original Quarn & Kivan UOP v3_2_0 Manual version, and UOP v3_2_0 Hotfix Manual, (both from here http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296 Dated August 2008. ) in the same bain ( See Arthmoors post below ). I could have had those separate as number 1 and 2 in my list, but they are very unlikely to ever be updated again so decided to bundle them as one.

The second is the Unofficial Mods Patch for DLC mods (again used the manual version to create the BAIN) http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9969

The third USIP http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10739

Arthmoors Supplemental patches (following AWLS in the install order), from here http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27710

Edit: Forgot to mention number 4 in my list is Knights Of The Nine UOMP also by Arthmoor available as an optional file from the same link as the Supplemental

Well looks like Python 2.6.4 and above does not like my computer. Oh well I'll stick with Python 2.5.2.

Anyway, I have a problem yet again. Whenever I go to the Installers Tab, it refreshes all the data, except stops and gets an error for a mesh file from Romuska's Fantasy Mod. Apparently, the .nif file has Japanese letters in its file name, and when Wrye Bash points to the problem file, to displays the Japanese letters as ???. Is there anyway to bypass this or to correct it? I suppose I can simply delete the offending files, since it does have a file with the same name and size without the Japanese letters(though I have no .nif viewing applications), but I am afraid that it might affect the mod. Any suggestions on what to do? I really want to use the handy BAIN installer feature.

Here's a screenshot in use to help ... (Click to enlarge)

NB the hotfix in the name of the first bain I have is just the 320 + patch incorporated, not the recent supplement.... see below

Why should UOP 3.2.9 overwrite AWLS? That is really okay, the whole thing?

Number 1 in my list is just the original Quarn & Kivan UOP v3_2_0 Manual version, and UOP v3_2_0 Hotfix Manual, ( both from here http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296 ) in the same bain. Dated August 2008. I could have had those separate as number 1 and 2 in my list, but they are very unlikely to ever be updated again so decided to bundle them as one.

You don't need both downloads - the larger full UOP 3.2.0 is the complete package. The "hotfix" Kivan posted was just stuff that got updated after the previous version. I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time but now, not so much.

Two meshes in the UOPS have technical fixes the AWLS meshes don't have, and the UOPS meshes are AWLS-ready. So they do need to overwrite the AWLS files.

Well looks like Python 2.6.4 and above does not like my computer. Oh well I'll stick with Python 2.5.2.

I think you should uninstall your current versoin and get the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368 installer instead.

I have done that. It gives me an error that is similar to that of when I forget to put the oblivion disk in.
