Readme: the file named Wrye Bash.html in the mopy folder)
External Reading (ie tutorials, user created help files) - they may be more understandable/help you get started with less technical detail/better written from a non-dev standpoint

Previous Topic: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1129495-relz-wrye-bash-thread-53
Requirements:
  • http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.6.6/python-2.6.6.msi, http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wxpython/wxPython2.8-win32-ansi-2.8.11.0-py26.exe, http://sourceforge.net/projects/comtypes/files/comtypes/0.6.2/comtypes-0.6.2.win32.exe/download, http://www.voidspace.org.uk/downloads/psyco-1.6.win32-py2.6.zip, and http://sourceforge.net/project/platformdownload.php?group_id=78018.
(Probably best to just download Wrye Python 03 package from http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368 unless you like to customize your install).
Older/Newer versions _may_ work but those are probably best and what most of use (and is done the most testing with).

Overview:
  • Wrye Bash has a lot of features. I mean a LOT. It's like twenty tools rolled into one. It includes as subfeatures the entire feature sets of other tools, and offers plenty of other features that no other mod tool has. Except installation. It's the "everything but installation" tool! Now with installation too!

Installation:
  • First time installation is still a little difficult, but later updates are easy (just unzip latest version into Oblivion directory). However, for first time installation you have to preinstall two other packages and then (sometimes) tweak a shortcut. You can't just download and press the pretty buttons -- you have to follow the readme instructions. If you have followed the instructions and still have problems, post the bugdump. If you haven't followed the instructions and whine that it won't work without posting the bugdump, Wrye will bite your fingers off (it's a monkey thing). Otherwise he's quite helpful.

Linking:
  • If you'd like to link to Bash from somewhere else, please do! But be sure to link to either http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368 or http://sourceforge.net/projects/oblivionworks/. Don't link to the actual Bash zip file, since that changes fairly frequently.

Bain
  • Install/uninstall mods from zip, 7z, archives, etc. No OMODs required!

Bashed Patchers
  • Configure and build a custom patch mod to...
  • Merge leveled lists
  • Merge TNR faces over other changes to npcs
  • Merge race eye/hair/body/voice changes over other changes to races
  • Tweak clothes: Show amulets with robes, zero weight rings and amulets, etc.
  • Tweak misc. GMST settings.

Repair/Edit Stuff
  • Repair animation bug (various animations freezing)
  • Repair hair bug (game ctds when viewing race menu after removing a hair mod)
  • Remove spells from spell list
  • Rename created spells, enchanted items
  • Remove bloating (one use of this reduced a 158 Mb savegame to 2.5 Mb)
  • Import NPC levels into an existing savegame (essential when switching to/from OOO, Frans, etc.)
  • Import PC face from other savegame or any mod (e.g., import any of TNR's faces into game)
  • Easily generate html readmes using wiki-like syntax.

Mod, Savegame, Screenshot Management
  • Auto-Ghost mods to reduce espm thrashing.
  • Launch Oblivion and TESCS (with or without OBSE).
  • Mod, save, screenshot file management. (Rename, duplicate, etc.)
  • Save Profiles: Have different sets of saves for different npcs with different loadlists, etc.
  • Screenshots: View, delete, batch rename, open, etc.
  • Readme Browser: Quickly view readme of currently selected mod.
  • Quick/Autoswap between SI and pre-SI versions of Oblivion.esm.

You should add a few more things to that list, Wrye. Almost none of the items from my list of the most compelling features in Wrye Bash are on your list:

For everyone:
  • Accurately and quickly managing your load order (correctly sorts ESMs)
  • Locking your load order (so updated mods automatically load in the exact same spot as the old version)
  • Checking your load list for problems (missing mod dependencies)
  • Checking savegames against load list and syncing load list to savegame
  • Cleaning bloated savegames
  • Archive Invalidation (now supports BSA-alteration BSA-redirection method)
  • Replacers (install/remove texture replacement mods -- really any mod, too)
  • Change master entry in savegame (to avoid losing items, quest progress, etc. when the name of a mod has changed)

For mod-makers:
  • Add a master to a plugin (for mod de-isolation)
  • Change master entry in plugin (for mod de-isolation)
  • Locking your load order (so changes you make don't move the plugin to the end of your load list)
  • Savegame profiles (so you can easily test with only your mod active, then easily switch back to playing with all your mods active)

Fallout 3:
  • TheLORDofDOOM has taken on making a FO3 version, Wrye4Fallout3... and here's the first little bit of it (not all translated to account for FO3 but it's showing promise). And another, a bit further along, by Valda called http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1079607-relz-garybash/.

Other news:
  • There is now a listserve for the svn and bug/request/patch/support trackers; if you want to get emails whenever changes to those items happen just join over https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/oblivionworks-committers. You can also use it for support requests/questions if you desire.

  • fix/improvement for oneInstanceChecker (contributed by myk002)

Requirements:
  • http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.6.6/python-2.6.6.msi, http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wxpython/wxPython2.8-win32-ansi-2.8.11.0-py26.exe, http://sourceforge.net/projects/comtypes/files/comtypes/0.6.2/comtypes-0.6.2.win32.exe/download, http://www.voidspace.org.uk/downloads/psyco-1.6.win32-py2.6.zip, and http://sourceforge.net/project/platformdownload.php?group_id=78018.

PM, Could you change the list of requirements to match what's in the Wrye Python 03 package? Because as outlined in a post from the last thread, Python 2.6.6 and wxpython 2.8.11.0 ansi didn't play nice together. The WP03 package has Python 2.6.5 in it. Thanks

Just tried 291(SVN-673) with 64bit Python,( http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.7/python-2.7.amd64.msi, wxPython/2.8.11.0/http://sourceforge.net/projects/wxpython/files/wxPython/2.8.11.0/wxPython2.8-win64-unicode-2.8.11.0-py27.exe/download.) and it's liking it...
Hadn't tried on 290, might have been good there too.

(I'll look for links)

*added links and correction.

***Well still apear to need 64-bit Com Types before I can build a patch

What about this (x64) - and what about comtypes (@Brozly : I do not understand the part in red in your post), psyco and pywin ? -- and do we need the unicode or ansi versions ?

As for the OBSE thing : definitely +1
Will make testing OBSE so much easier - no excuses anymore lol (and one less folder manually organized in the HDD, one of the most annoying at that). Plus one can review one's installed plugins, versions notes, etc from the bash IDE for Oblivion ™. Disable/enable and launch Oblivion. The power of the Ring err of WB.
+1 to ini setting : first line of defense - Bash innocent of no0bs
+1 to warning : see http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1129495-relz-wrye-bash-thread-53/page__view__findpost__p__16621724 - anyone can make a mistake at 3 AM
-1 to exes : for now at least
+1 to list with already installed dlls (box with remember my decision for this file in the warning) - list not with names only but with hashes - +? as to which hashes : OBSE testing

EDIT : -1 to context menu option in this case : redundant if global ini setting, dangerous on its own

And yes +0.5 to allow installs only in OBSE\Pluggins - one step at a time
:)

PS - off topic : I avoided Vista and having just recently installed 7 I do wonder why there is not such a remember my decision for this file box in the UAC prompt. Should be there actually - most definitely so to speak.

That would be a bit odd because I'm using 2.6.6 and wxpython 2.8.11.0 just fine together and Bash has not once complained about it.

The comtypes module, AFAIK, is mainly useful for the results page after building a patch and things like that. Last time I tried an install that didn't use that package those results windows ended up as browser tabs rather than staying inside Bash.

The Mod Checker module coughs up an error for "No Com Types"

OK. When I installed the programs listed in the requirements, I couldn't start WB v285. I checked for the PID and the was none. Then I reverted back to Python 2.6.5 / wxpython 2.8.10.1 and everything was fine.
When I finished comparing the rebuild times between WB v285 and WB v287 and the difference is minimul, then I will upgrade to v287.
Glad to hear it works for you!

it'd be Python 2.6.6 - 288 is the first version that will work with 2.6.6; they did a slight non-backwards compatible change in that "bug fix only" release... however please do not do 288 - 290 should be fine.

Hi, I'm a new Bash user. I downloaded bash because i wanted to switch from using natural weather to all natural. after lots of trouble shooting and following of guides i finally got bash to give everything the green light, but upon loading an in game save Oblivion CTDs, same with starting a new game, after getting past the opening movie CTD. So im going to forsake the last 3 days of nonstop modding and start from scratch, but if i encounter the same fate i was hoping to get some help, is this the correct place to be asking for assistance?

Ok. I was just trying to help someone else (unlikely, I guess) avoid the same misunderstanding. Might be good to note the version requirement.

For starters, post your load order from WBash by right-clicking the title bar.

Get rid of the vampire face fix, the Bashed Patch has a setting for that. The Citadel Door Fix is pretty minor, just fixing the position of a sound, so I don't play with it, but it doesn't really matter. You also appear to be incapable of reading and/or following instructions because you've got Natural Weather and All Natural installed at the same time.

i have no idea why it says that in my BOSS, because i deactivated Natural weather long before i installed All Natural. I even just went to my data folder and deleted the .esm, but both OBMM and BASH showed that Natural Weather was deactivated.

Oh, that's because BOSS just lists the plugins in your Data folder, which is why people always ask for the Wrye Bash "List Mods..." output, which gives a lot of information. Regardless, you need to completely uninstall NW to prevent issues with resources too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but afaik the only real difference between 32bit and 64bit is that memory addresses take 64 bits instead of 32, obviously :)
IOW, 8bytes instead of 4 per memory address.
This means that you need alot more RAM to do the same things (you don't need double, mind you).
Unless you have more than 4Gb of RAM or need 64bit Python for some other reason anyway, you are probably better off to stick with the 32bit version.

RE: 288 I'm just trying to help. has anyone checked it yet?

Is it normal to get stdout spam with CBash? It looks like this:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but afaik the only real difference between 32bit and 64bit is that memory addresses take 64 bits instead of 32, obviously :)
IOW, 8bytes instead of 4 per memory address.
This means that you need alot more RAM to do the same things (you don't need double, mind you).
Unless you have more than 4Gb of RAM or need 64bit Python for some other reason anyway, you are probably better off to stick with the 32bit version.

Yeah, I know, it Actually takes longer because it's gotta transalate everything back to 32-bit, but as soon as that 8-Terabyte Mod comes out, Ill be ready... :P

Actually I have gone back to 2.7-32bit, still Seems quicker, but I've droped a Lot of mods too..

Hi guys, having a problem and I've tried searching for a solution and I can't seem to find it. It probably doesn't help that I'm absolutely beyond my capacity for frustration and I feel like tossing my entire computer out the window and giving up on technology for good. Modding Oblivion has a tendency to get me to that place...

I can't open Wrye Bash. I have python 2.7, but when i click on the wrye bash shortcut I get the little mouse loading thing and then absolutely nothing ever happens. I want to use it to get custom races working with a companion, and part of the process requires that I use Wrye Bash. I'd use TES4Gecko instead but that doesn't work either, as it can't find my oblivion install directory and the geniuses who wrote it don't seem to allow the user to specify one. So Wrye Bash is my only hope. If anyone can offer a suggestion, it would be much appreciated.

I'm running Vista 32-bit.

I think you must use Python version 2.6.x, otherwise Wrye Bash won't start. But I'm not 100% sure about it.

Anyway I also have my own problem of being unable to start Wrye Bash. Here's the error message I got from the Command Prompt:
