Wrye Mash Save Repair

Post » Thu Aug 09, 2012 8:58 am

I created a character a few months ago in Morrowind, and played extensively for a few days until the save file suddenly wouldn't load. It started loading, and as soon as the loading screen vanished, the game crashed to desktop. I got angry, and went back to Skyrim.

Last week I returned to Morrowind, starting afresh with a new character, and creating two save slots for her just in case one failed. But now once again the saves won't load. Neither of them will. I tried using the Wrye Mash repair tool and that refused to work because it said there was an error with the Poorly Placed Object Fix mod. So I updated that mod to the latest version (1.2) and tried running the repair tool again. But now it tells me that it STILL can't work because the save game hasn't had the updated Poorly Placed Object Fix registered to it yet.

So it wants me to load up my broken save with the updated mod activated, save again, and then try to fix it? I'm confused. How does the Repair Tool work? Because I must be missing something.

Just curious, but how many mods are you playing with and could you post your load order? I'm interested in save games that don't load, because I've come to believe they can always be fixed, but it may take some effort to do so.

To sync your save file to the current mod list, click the saves tab, then highlight the save in question. On the right, you will see a screenshot thumbnail with a list of mods associated with the save file. Right click on the top bar where it says "Files" and select "Sync to load list" from the dropdoawn menu. Then, click save at the bottom of the right column. After that, you can go ahead and do your "repair all" on the save file itself.

This is how I do it with Wrye Mash 84. One would not think to right click on the files header bar, but that's how it's done. Good luck.

I wonder how many gamesave you have in the \Morrowind\Saves folder? Is it below 500 or is it over 500?

If it's below 500 then you have a chance to fix by just reduce the amount of gamesaves you have to let say below 350 or if you can go under 300. However should you have over 500 then it's important of how many gamesaves you have, because you more gamesaves you then the chance to recover the save will be much reduced and if it's over 950 then consider the save almost unrepairable unless you reduced the gamesaves to under 200.
