Or, if you're a fan of DBZ and you've watched DBGT, than this mod give you abilities like Bebi. Being able to take over other bodies, shapeshifting, even using his own power to increase the body he took over's power.

Also;
Realistic leveling seems to work awesomely with this. So if anyone was wondering about that, it's fine.

Might be time for a reminder...
Warning #3: This is just a fun (if insanely grueling project!) for me. I'll probably provide a little support but not a lot. But I can pretty much guarantee that this mod will never be completely stable and safe when interacting with other mods and even vanilla oblivion. E.g. you can doppelgang a guard in the imperial palace and stroll into the upper levels of the palace -- which pretty much breaks a thieves quest. Or you can doppelgang Palomirya, go to her upstairs chamber where you'll likely find a nice Elaborate Chest from OOO -- which will promptly kill you if you try to open it. Or freeze you in place, or do some other weird thing.

The solution to these sort of problems will generally be: "Don't freaking do that!" Or, put another way:

If Wrye Morph causes your game to explode into little bitty pieces, I'm more likely to admire how completely it blew up than I am to actually do anything about it.
Warning #3a: Do not ask when this is coming out of beta. The answer is never. Because of the inherent risks of conflicts in running this mod, I'll expect to always leave the "Beta" label on. However, it will probably see some minor improvements in future releases. Or maybe not. :shrug: RL has been calling my name for quite a while now, and I just may not do much more with it.


In other words... Psymon's game exploded quite nicely. :nuke: Cool. B)

Again, this is a fairly advanced mod that breaks some really fundamental assumptions and does some other weird stuff. It's not too suprising that weird interactions with some mods occur.

Vampire Factions: Not surprising. Only specifically covered factions are "morphed". However, you can add more if you like. See docs and use your head.

Vampire Morphing:
As mentioned previously, vampire morphing is not done. And since I never play as a vampire and have less time available, it's probably not going to happen.

Hot Key Switchers: As docs point out, hot keys are morphed. In addition, inventory is morphed. Since hot keys are inventory items... Now, I would think that each character would just have their own set of hotkey inventory items and the hotkeys would morph correctly. However, I haven't really tried it, and it may depend on the hotkey mod involved. E.g. if hotkey mod assumes that there's only one instance of a given hotkey, then perhaps weird things will happen. :shrug:

A nice feature would be the ability to set the level of a new soul. This should be limited to the range between one and the maximum level allowed by the deleveling penalty. This would allow greater flexibility in how the new soul is set up.

Wow great work, I could only expect this from you. Only porblem I have is how complicated your stuff is =], just goes to show that your one of the better modders amongst us.

Leveling: For new souls, you can just increase the deleveling penalty. Also, if you use Wrye leveling, you can then level the soul to the level you like (temporarily set gold and wait requirements to zero).

Difficulty: Yeah, for this it's pretty much unavoidable. It breaks such fundamental expecations of the game that it's like trying to drive a car the wrong way on a busy one way street. It's a bit surprising that it works as well as it does.

Increasing the deleveling penalty only works so far. If a person wants complete control of a new soul's development, they would have to start at level one. Since the new soul's level is based on the highest level soul you have, the lowest you can go is 75% of that soul's level. If your highest level soul is level 40, the lowest you can go is 10.

I wonder if I'm just being nitpicky with this. It's not really a big deal.

That's just the options setting dialog. You can manually configure it to go lower through the console. You just have to set the appropriate quest variable to the appropriate amount. Unfortunately, I don't remember the variable at the moment. But the var would be set in wrMorZ

So, open up cs and check script fow wrMorZS. Look for something like "delev" in the variable name.

You might also try sqv wrMorZ, while in game to list vars, but it has a lot and would likely not show everything.

I've been looking through Wrye Morph's scripts to figure out what I need to edit, and what I found is very complex and detailed. I'm amazed that this doesn't crash Oblivion right off, let alone work so well.

I bow before your scripting genius, O Great Monkey God.

EDIT: It would seem that the variable in question is DelevelNew. I'm trying to confirm that.

EDIT2: Correction, it appears to be fDevelNew.

EDIT3: Confirmation. It's fDelevelNew. It's a decimal number, correct? Like .99?

In any case, I'm going to go and see what happens when I change that.

EDIT4: Either I've found the wrong variable, or I'm doing something wrong with the console. I'm working on figuring out which is the problem.

EDIT5: Aha! It turns out that the full variable name is wrmorz.delevelnew. That explains why it wasn't found.

I must admit, a bad encounter kept me away from your mods for a bit, but who am I kidding? I can't stay away. Finally installed Wrye Morph, and so far, absolutely loving it.

Given your various statements on the matter, I suspect I already know the answer, but if I ended up creating a mod that added NPC copies of all of a player's non-doppleganged shapes that ran on dynamic AI based on various factors (main faction, class statistics, wealth, etc.), would you object to my releasing it? I haven't looked at the code yet, so I don't know if this could be achieved through COBL, but I'm fully expecting it to be dependent on the main Morph file...

I may only develop it to be satisfactory for my game, in which case a release isn't likely (I've learned my lesson about releasing an incomplete mod that I'm perfectly content with). But I figure, it doesn't hurt to ask.

That sounds really cool, and yes, releasing that is fine.

You'll need to keep the dependency on Wrye Morph (that's the only way to access the various variables/arrays with the appropriate info). Try not to make people games blow up any more than is necessary (unless the explosion is particularly entertaining :)).

Note that:
* I'm more retired these days, so I won't be able to offer much support.
* People may switch which character is carrying the guild leader title, so you might want to adjust for that.

I've found an odd bug, I've narrowed it down to Wyre Morph, as saves before I started this quest didn't have this problem!

I can't open my inventory until 1 or 2 seconds after opening a container/corpse, and then I can't open it again... to begin with I thought it was a hidden feature of Unnessary Violence, because I was in combat when I first discovered it and its to stop me fumbling in my inventory during a fight, but its happening everywhere! :S

It started when I first touched the girl's corpse and morphed into her shape at the begining of the quest, I just loaded a save to before I went in that cave, and its not having the same problem... :mellow:

I haven't updated for a while, so I can't say. I did notice inventory lag at one period (like early 2009), but that went away later. (Vague recollection of something to do with DarN Ui and/or something that Haama did in Cobl code that was later changed?? I really don't remember for sure.)

If it happens immediatly after touching Cosmias corpse (but before you get the inventory trigger book)... Hmm... That would be weird.

I'm wondering about an interaction between Wrye Morph and Cobl 1.70 or later, but nothing is obvious right away. If it were after the trigger item got added to you inventory, then maybe that might explain it. Or maybe some interaction between pluggy and Cobl code??

I'll see if it starts happening to me after I update my mod config (hopefully this weekend).

Hi,

I've been playing around with this mod this evening in a new game and I just have to compliment you on all the work that must have gone into this mod. Oblivion's modding community never ceases to amaze me, I would never have thought such a mod would be feasibly possible but here it is.

I was wondering if there was a way to permanently remove a soul at all, whether there's something built in and I'm just missing it or if there's a way via the console or anything. I'm concerned my love for doppleganging will result in a somewhat cluttered list of souls which I don't use anymore. Anyway I can get rid of some?

There's currently no way to get rid of a soul. I suppose that they could be deleted, but then you have to worry about stuff like dumping their inventory, etc. And I'm a little concerned about breaking the code somewhere (which assumes that identities are never deleted).

So just don't go *too* nuts in doppelganging people, eh?

I'll keep the possibility in mind though in case I end up tweaking Wrye Morph again.

Something interesting happened to me in a game where I went nuts doppleganging people, and scribing way too many new souls. I had been playing this mod along side FCOM for around 400 days in game, timescale going between 30 and 90 and the main quest finishing around day 200. Anyway, I was scribing all of the random "named" bosses that I ran into(fran's) and of course scribing the non respawning bosses from from ooo, Fayth, hestarius family, volmyr. Then I started adding companion mods, scribing the companion then ditching the mod. I can't believe the game lasted for 400 days , especially considering the abuse I was giving it. I had to revert to old saves a few times but that usually happened when I was trying to do something I knew wouldn't work. Anyway, Oblivion eventually grew tired of faction morphing and just started dropping me from factions.

First one I noticed was my identity attached to the thieves guild, I hadn't been doing much with the thieves guild except selling stolen merchandise. I was still working with armand, and one day I was going to ongar to sell something and he gave me the "who me, I don't buy or sell anything" line. I looked on my faction page (in game journal, not morph) and there was no thieves guild, but I had picked up order of the dragon, arena grand champion and fighters guild associate. The identities associated with those factions still retained there rank, I was champion of cyrodiil with several characters and arena grand champion with at least 2 identities, male and female. I could use either to fight in the weekly events. Which most certainly was not that way before. I tried to switch the thieves guild faction rank from the main thieves guild identity(wrye morph correctly showed who retained the thieves guild rank, as long as that identity wasn't active at the time) but would get an instant ctd after clicking the option. I had put a lot of time into this save game so I wasn't ready to give up just yet on my group of dopplegangers, so I messed with it for a few days and made it much worse...probably was heading that way anyway.

I eventually decided to clean the save game as well as I could and go from there. I had about 104 mods running at the time, with well over 200 in play over the course of the savegame. It was 19000kb with no noticeable bloating(just using bash as a guide.) I started by uninstalling wrye morph and maybe 10 small quest mods. That put my savegame down to about 18500, no troubles saving it....then I uninstalled edi.esp, fcom edi.esp, and edi.esm. Main Quest ended like 200 game days previous(which is essentially when edi is finished) so I figured it wouldn't be a problem, but I couldn't keep a stable save. I would disable the mods, go in game and it would save fine. I exit the application and then go back in and it would ctd when trying to save from that point. That savegame was 16,300 btw. So I put the esm back, and took it slower. After about 50 saves I had everything off except for the utility mods and cobl, which refuses to budge, at least with my set up.

I was making all of these saves in the testing hall forcing a week to pass when the biggest chunks were being taken out, incidentally, i had recently changed the ini file to make the testing hall my safe zone, as I couln't enter tiber septim anymore.


I had just uninstalled the largest "block" and when I loaded up the game, the testing hall had a mages guild portal to salan's cellar and 6 npcs standing on or around the portal who had the same form as the character I was playing, It was the same character I had started the original game with. Two of the npcs were named "new Identity" 2 of them shared my name, and the others just had punctuation marks in place of the names. I have never summoned salan's portal into the testing hall, I must have summoned it in a world space i had uninstalled. I also have never scribed any characters that were the same race as mine. I went into the console and they were are ll running the same variables as me. 2 of them died at this point, they kind of just melted into the ground like they were paralyzed...they died with full health, the others were fine though, at lest they seemed all right...no rumors and had essentially the same stats as I did.

I just left them there, I set time scale to 30000 to get a few years to pass in game, and then played around a bit to see if there were irreparable damage to the savegame.. I ran around for about an hour and everything seemed ok. I then installed wry morph again, just to see if i could figure out the anomaly with the testing hall dopplegangers, and I cannot get the morph past 24%. It will scribe people, at least it appears as if it is scribing succussfully, i don't have anyway to test it out to be certain, but the visuals act accordingly. When I try scribing a new soul, the spell gets cast, however I don't perform the usual spell animation that usually goes along with it, my arms stay to the side, the visuals come and I get restrained, but then it stops. There are no errors or dialog windows, I can access my inventory, clicking the book does nothing. After 10 min or so I used the console to unrestrain myself and I dispelled the invisibility, the other effect didn't go away, at least the visual didn't , as far as I could tell there was nothing actually effecting my character. I tried using the book at that point and then morph displayed a messaging saying script was at 24%...but nothing after, I had seen that message before and then would see the " revert to an earlier save message. "

Whatever the case it was all very interesting, if you have any quick solutions to force wrye morph to work, I would really like to see what those dopplegangers are about.

I am currently frustrated when using Wrye. Or, not using it, perhaps more accurately. I have pushed and pulled, and have got nothing for my efforts. Here's the problem. Quite simple, actually.

Doing the quest to acquire the Wrye Morph power, I activate the body of the poor mage who died on her first adventuring expedition, am shot backwards--etc--automatically cast script-effect spell, script effect icon goes to work, aaaannd... a immediate and quick crash to desktop. Everything else in my game runs fine, mind, with minimal crashes.

This is what I know:
--This is not related to Balanced Races (something I suspected at the beginning). I have toyed with this many times and determined this not to be a cause.
--I have the latest versions of Cobl, Pluggy, OBSE, etc. I would not be posting here if I didn't. (I hear the readme loud and clear, Wrye)
--I have no mods installed that should conflict with Wrye in any way, according to the readme.
--AND YES, Bashmon is actively running.

Again, tried this multiple times.

I know, lots of mods. But according to the readme none of these should conflict.

This is not a lamenting of how much Wrye Morph has destroyed my game. This is a inquiry on why Wrye Morph is not working at all.

When I played with the mod I had similar issues and it was both race and character class that was the issue..

So even if I were playing with RBP I had to play a race identified as one of the vanilla races - so a Nord, not a bearded nord.

Then with character class it had to be a preset class that was either defined in the vanilla game or added by another mod. Wrye Morph does not seem to like any custom classes. To remedy that I found a mod that added some 40 classes and of RBP alters the vanilla classes to be more useful.

Of course these limits are why I ended up ditching the mod - too limited for what I wanted to create.

Maybe that will help.

Monkey gods don't like being used! :angry: Besides about 75% of my mods/tools are named "Wrye something or other", so it's better to say "using morph" (or using wrye morph).

Short answer is: I don't know. As stated in the readme, Wrye Morph does some very unexpected things (radical race/class/level/stat/faction shifting on a regular basis, automatic saving and quick loading of games). This can just confuse the heck out of some other mods in a way that causes CTDs even when those mods are stable with just about any other mod. The problem here is not with the other mod or even the implementation of Wrye Morph. The problem is that what Wrye Morph does is so radically counter to the games assumptions that its not particularly surprising that some mods can't handle it. :shrug:

Now in your case: CM partners and/or one of Giskard's mods might be causing a problem. For myself, I recall that I get a CTD crash if i have the CM partner esp active an do shift (this wasn't a problem with older versions of CM partners) (I haven't tested this thoroughly). Also I recall someone mentioning that there was a problem with OMG (Origin of the Mages Guild). So perhaps that, and/or perhaps a problem with one of Giskard's other mods.

The warnings about possible conflicts for this mod are about as clear as I can make them (without resorting to big blinking red letters). If it works for you, great. If if explodes in itty bitty pieces -- well, not too surprising. You may be able to resolve them by checking and/or deactivating other mods, but the legwork for such a task is up to you.

Again, I don't know. I can tell you this: When you scribe a new character, a new NPC record is generated in the savegame, and an instance of that NPC is instantiated in a special hidden room (no, not the usual testing hall). They should not appear at your current location, but perhaps if something got sufficiently messed up they would (i.e. if the Oblivion process itself gets messed up and starts effectively jumping the tracks from one chunk of code to another).

Personally, I keep my number of shapes fairly low (there are only about 10 that I regularly use, and total shapes is around 40-50). Given resource use, its probably wisest to not go nuts when doppelganging.

As for what else might be wrong, I don't know. Again, its possible that some mod interacts with Morph in some odd way. (E.g. if something adds an invisible, non-quest item token to the player, that object might be moved off the player and to one of the "holding place" npcs during a morph -- but that might be something that the mod never expects to happen - which might lead to ensuing craziness.

Hopalong Tom:
Don't know. I know that Haama added more inventory manipulation stuff in one of the recent versions of Cobl (for supporting key bag or something like that). However, I'm running current Cobl with Wrye Morph and don't seem to have a problem. OTOH, I haven't restarted the main quest since the update, perhaps something there could be triggering a problem?

I can tell you I did have some odd inventory display slowness at one point, which I think was due to a problem with an older version of Cobl. But that was subsequently fixed. (The problem just showed up as "slow to open" though.)

Summary:
Wrye Morph does some very cool stuff, and if you like what it does it definitely opens up the game in very interesting ways. But not all other mods play nice with it. If you run into a conflict with another mod (and you will likely have to work to determine which mod(s) is(are) the problem), then you'll likely have to discard either Wrye Morph or the other mod.

I have to add my voice to the chorus of thank-yous for such a amazingly intricate mod. :)

I've encountered a major issue where one of my souls gets an immediate CTD if I morph to her. I think I'll go peek at her NPC counterpart in the hidden cell and see if I can find out what's up....

There's currently no way to get rid of a soul. I suppose that they could be deleted, but then you have to worry about stuff like dumping their inventory, etc. And I'm a little concerned about breaking the code somewhere (which assumes that identities are never deleted).

So just don't go *too* nuts in doppelganging people, eh?

I'll keep the possibility in mind though in case I end up tweaking Wrye Morph again.

Hah, I was going to inquire about this a while ago, but I never got to it. Is there anyway you could "mask" this? So deleted souls aren't really deleted, just no longer visible.

I really love to use this mod, I've doppleganged Harrow from the MD shrine so he takes the blame for everything I do when playing the Servant of the Dawn mod. :P It works as a good RP framing spell, because you the "superduper champion of cyrodiil" stays clear of any blame and suspicion, your doppleganged friends however do not seeing as they murdered a few peeps >:P

PS: Wrye Morph works pretty much flawlessly with the latest version of Cobl here.

Sorry Wrye. Forgot to add "Morph" at the end of the first sentence to my post. I think I used "Wrye Morph" the rest of the time though.

And thanks. I'll check CM Partners and the other mods you mentioned. Wrye Morph is definitely a challenge. :shifty:

If I get it working, I'll be sure to post a screenshot of my computer exploding. :nuke:

Hello everybody,

i'm new to this forum (however, not to oblivion mods)
This mod is very amazing and i really want to install it (have obse, cobl, etc.)
but...

i cannot enter wrye's homepage for some reason
...allready tried it with my computer, with the laptop of my sister and with a friend's computer

just cannot enter the side and i know that wrye didn't upload it anywhere else
i think i searched whole google xD

so maybe anybody can help me getting this files maybe? =)
would be very nice
