WTF? So enemies can mutate to legendary while fighting them?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 5:17 am

My lvl 6 PC was exploring the area east of the robotics facility outside sanctuary, when he was set upon by a pack of wild mongrels. He and dogmeat made quick work of the half a dozen or so wild dogs with his machete. He was just clearing out of the area (Dogmeat running off ahead of him as always) when he was ambushed in the rear by the alpha male pack leader. Creature took on his machete but had good reflexes. So got in several good bites out of him and he started taking on significant blood loss. Just as I moved to activate his stimpacks, a message came up on screen. It said:

"Alpha mongrel has just mutated to legendary" ?!!??

Switched over to double barrel shot gun and unloaded on the thing. It dropped dead in its tracks. Went over to scavenge the body and ran across this weapon--again at my feeble lvl 6 PC

Dafuq??!?

Has anyone else encountered a god mode weapon like this? This is something I'd expect at say lvl 20+ while raiding a supermutant. Or even that deathclaw the PC encountered doing the Minutemen quest in Concord. I really hope I don't run into anything else this overpowering until way later in the game. Because it's ridiculous my PC has already scavenged and stockpiled 2 suits of PA, a fatboy, fatboy nuke, a pet securitron, and several fusion cores. All from exploring what supposed to be a low level enemy area around Concord and Sanctuary Hills. :sadvaultboy:

And on a completely OT, why does the pre-war army fatigues look like a poor texture rehash of the master armor set from the Thieves Guild in Skyrim? :brokencomputer:

... That's not pre-war fatigues. That's the leather underarmor (Road something-or-other).

Yeah I had a mirelurk do this on me. The thing is, it was already legendary, so nothing happened. (I got a really good poison resistant chest armor out of it though! 25 resist!)

Yeah, I've had this happen to me only once with a Ghoul Roamer. I shot it a few times and this message pops up on the screen saying something about it upgrading to Legendary.

so far 2 legendary mirelurks have mutated on me(in the same encounter at the same time) and 1 legedary raider. didn't get much anything signifigant from eithier though. Best day in game so far yesterday when i found my favorite weapon for the first time, combat shotgun and it was on a regular old raider scum.

Never Ending weapons are neat but some people might misunderstand their description. You do not get unlimited ammo for them, you get unlimited capacity for them which means you'll never have to reload the weapon. Anyways I am sure you know that since you have the weapon but yeah.. I have a tier 3 upgraded never ending .44 revolver. Very nice not having to reload it, ever. Still, for some weapons this buff is not that special, especially for those that already have a high clip capacity. But imagine a never ending double barrel shotgun with all the speed upgrades.. Omfg.

I dunno about the mutation thing though, I run across alot of legendaries, ALOT. And pretty much each one of them "mutates" when they should be dying. Meaning, I shoot them and their health goes to 0, I get a message "... has mutated", their health goes back to 100% and I just have to kill them again.

3 times today alone and not sure I was under a considerable amount of fire from a gunners encampment but I think the legendary gunner I just hit between the eyes w/ a .50 mutated all his health back

Probably 6 or 7 times to me in tens of hours of playing. I enjoy it. One killed me when I wan't expecting it. It didn't respawn, unfortunately...

It's not only weapons. I got a left leg armor that decreases fall damage by 50%. One thing I would suggest( I just started playing this weekend) is take your fusion core out of the power armor. My base is at the Red Rocket station. It got attacked. John Hancock got into my power armor and went off to fight the attacking Super mutants. He got out of it when the battle was over but far away from the gas station. If I wouldn't have been there, never would have found it.

I never seem to get anything worth while from legendary enemies. Usually just something with a cool sounding name that turns out to be way worse than what I allready have.

At level 25 legendary enemies seem to mutate and regain all their HP every time you engage them.

The best legendary I've gotten was a wounding submachine gun, it's extremely OP. Wounding seems to be extremely broken in that if you hit a enemy multiple times it'll stack and normally you'd assume it wouldn't be able to do anything on robots but it doesn't seem to be able to determine a organic enemy that bleeds from one that doesn't at all which leads to a weapon is completely universal for any enemy.

I believe all legendary enemies can mutate once they take on some damage. The only time they don't is if you kill them with one shot. I've seen at least 15-20 legendary enemies and I think 75% of them have mutated to become stronger and regain full health. Ran across a Legendary Deathclaw. Spent 2 shots of my Big Boy on him but he went down in the end.

Almost all Legendary enemies give unique equipment for lack of a better word. That rifle is not really god mode since it is just a lousy Pipe Rifle. Now if it was a Never Ending Missile Launcher, then that would be god mode.

A way to get to get a bunch of unique equipment on the computer is type in the console:

tgm (if you want a challenge or not)

help enemy 4 (where enemy is the type of enemy you want to spawn and look for legendary to get the appropriate code. If you spawn Legendary Deathclaws, then you are more likely to level up than if you spawn Legendary Raiders).

player.placeatme Code Quantity

So if you want a real fight, then you can spawn 10 Legendary Glowing Deathclaws with player.placeatme 2499d5 10. You might get 10 unique equipment at the end of the fight, but likely end up as a bloody pulp.
