WTF Moments in Oblivion

Post » Wed Aug 25, 2010 1:30 pm

My biggest WTF was when I was walking into (iirc) Cheydinhal, and a guard dropped down from the sky, hit the floor, got back up, and hit me with his sword - yet as I was wearing a nice reflect damage amulet, he died. And I was arrested for murder.

Corrupt imperial guards, you say?

I've got two WTF moments.

Spoiler
1: I was in the Shivering Isles and Big Head got attacked by the guards for stealing a fork. Then, after the guards had finished with Big Head, they went into a killing frenzy and slaughtered most of the citizens in New Sheoth. Being a roleplayer, I decided that I should pretend it was a peasents revolt. I helped the citizens kill about ten guards before I was surrounded and killed.

Spoiler
2: During the Anvil recommendaton quest, when I was sent to see Arielle Jurard. She, as usual, told me to get a good nights sleep and track down the rouge mage in the morning. I woke up to find Arille in my bed next to me. I guess I didn't get much sleep that night after all. :hubbahubba:

Ya honestly its kinda weird how you can't sleep in a bed when someone else is in it but they are perfectly fine with doing it to you.

I've had a lot of wtf moments with OOO. Took me three tries to win the first bloodletter match for the arena. I swear that redguard is on steroids.

The legion foresters attacking eachother are just north of Chorrol. I've run into them so often I'm almost certain it's been deliberately scripted into the game.

I always found it a bit weird that bandits and outlaws have the same casual conversations with eachother as regular townsfolks. You'd think Bethesda would have recorded more suitable stuff for those kinds of NPCs.

I've heard some people will go to extreme lengths to frame someone, but that just takes the cake. Points to the guardsman for dedication to a task?

I used a mod which allowed me to carry a corpse around, so I put a slaughterfish corpse on my chorrol home's table.
A few days later, I forget about this, walk in, see this slaughterfish flailing on my table, my silverware going everywhere,
I thought my game was insanely messed up, until I killed it, grabbed it to move it on the table again, and accidentally hit activate whilst grabbing it, thus putting it into my inventory, and reminding me of the mod.

Ok so its my third day playing with OOO. I run into Fort Homestead and kill the first two raiders and I think everythings all fine and dandy. I go forward and get triple team gang [censored] in about 5 seconds but I saved beforehand. I go forward again and try frenzy and it doesn't work so I run outside with a Raider and a Raider fury following me all the way towards the IC into a Dibella Wayshrine. The Dibella ladies help kill the raider for me but when fighting the raider fury one of them disappears and the other fights him but ends up running away and being chased. I try and follow but I'm too slow so I take off my armor and am only wielding my sword and jewelry. I then proceed to brfing him back from halfway to Bravil towards where we originally met. Long story short, I end up using about 5 Welkynd Stones and a ton of potions and kill him while naked except for the default underwear haha. Took me about 8 in game hours to beat him. I had him cornered by a bridge but then he escaped and I was stuck and he healed himself a lot. Luckily all he had was a half decent frost damage spell so I just kept healing. but ya was the most epic battle of all time and I won it....naked.

One time, my Dunmer character decide to revolt against the system, and attacked a Battlemage guard at the Arcane University. So this started this epic battle between the mages and the Imperial Watch Battlemages. It is still ongoing, sometimes I'm just wandering around the University, and people will be talking about their latest developements on necromancy...and mudcrabs, before mid-conversaton, they conjure up some armour, summon some sort of Daedra and attack a guard, sparking a whole riot. But occaisionly they will just do this, and not attack anything.

A lot of moments in OOO are WTF moments haha. Like when I spend like 10 minutes real time fighting an Amazon Night Mother who just runs around and fires shock spells at me and won't die.

My best WTF moment was right when I started the game out of the sewers. I was all "oooh, look at that pretty ruin over there." So I swam over. "Oh, look! Some people to talk to!" One hammer blow to the head by a redguard bandit lady and I was dead.

Ha ha ha, that happened to me too, but amazingly, I killed them (there were two when I played, one was an archer). I think I was left with 2 hp's...

Then, I wasn't so familiar with Oblivion, yet I had read somewhere about all the murdering being easily spotted by guards, so I decided to "hide" in the nice ruins, which I thought was some sort of temple. I am there, searching for a priest or someone to spend some time (which I thought would make the 'guards' forget me) and sell some goodies just to hear somethng like "who's there?". It never occurred to me thieves would be the ones to ask this , to me it meant some temple guy wants to have a friendly conversation, so I leave sneak mode and rush to find him, only to get an arrow straight to my face.

So now I am thinking 'I had killed two members of the temple outside' so it makes sense for them to go hostile. Torn between the 'options' of having royal guards outside chasing me and getting back at that 'priest' for shooting me an arrow, I decided to antecipate my entry into the dark brotherhood and kill the entire 'cult' - remember, I had just gotten out of the sewers and was able to defeat two opponents, so I was feeling like Chuck Norris :toughninja: .

Only that I *wasn't* old Chucky, just a lame excuse for a promising 'Shadow Assassin'.

I shoot an iron arrow to some 'cult member' in that Ayleid medium center room... the arrow misses... The guy spots me... :shocking:

... and I am :dead:

Reload.

I was once crossing the bridge over the Niben at Fort Alessia when I saw something down in the lake below. I jumped in to take a closer look, and http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion460.jpg is what I found. Is that the battleship Talos? you ask. No, it just a Legion rider and horse swimming across the lake. He even stopped to dispatch a few http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion461.jpg along the way.

Then not long after this I found http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion464.jpg Imperial Forester apparently arresting the hillside.

HA HA HA - oh god these are too funny!

I got in a fight with the guards in the Imperial City, and then Jakben Earl of Imbel comes running out of his house dressed in armor and starts attacking the guards. When I attacked him, he yelled "I'm on your side!" And then I killed him.

I just had a WTF moment. I head back to the White Stallion Lodge to sleep before doing Biene Amelion's quest. It's 2am, and I go to bed for 6 hours. When I wake up, Mazoga and a conjurer are lying dead on the floor in the main room. Aside from the fact that I'm quite fond of Mazoga--that's right, I said it--I don't want corpses on the floor of the lodge. So I load the autosave. I decide to go outside to see if for some odd reason there's a conjurer hanging around. I step into the road, look north, and I hear a weapon unsheathe. There's a bandit coming straight at me, but he runs past me and heads to the lodge. Then I see a conjurer and a flame atronach heading towards me. They likewise ignore me and head to the lodge. I go in, and Mazoga takes out the bandit. Then the conjurer comes in and we take him out. Great--I still have corpses on the floor. So I reload. This time, we kill the bandit, but the conjurer runs north and starts chasing--I kid you not--sheep! He's got a Daedric axe, and he keeps summoning flame atronachs. But he's chasing sheep. I follow him to the edge of the map where I can't proceed, but he and a couple of sheep continue on. His flame atronach follows him, but turns back to shoot a fireball at me, only to start following him again.

I have no idea what's going on, but to avoid having a pile of corpses on the floor of the lodge, I'm going to have to kill the bandit and the conjurer on the road. I guess initially Mazoga killed the conjurer in the lodge and the bandit killed her and left--unless Mazoga and the conjurer managed to kill each other.

The strangest moment I ever had was when I was sitting down at a camp somewhere (don't remember which one) then tried to get on my horse without first standing up. MASSIVE glitching and weirdness ensued!

Sat at a barstool and my character morphed into the bar itself, talked to the inkeeper as if nothing had happened with just her head poking out?

That and trying to play through the MQ with a 200000 bounty and 190 infamy rating already, its certainly had its wtf just going into the AU started a riot.

LOL!

My character doesn't read books when he finds them. He wants to read them in peace and quiet, and always packs two books in his inventory, for reading when making camp at night. I found this deserted campsite. Decided to make rest, as it was quite late, about 9 pm. Sat on a stool next to the fire and crack open a book. After reading the book, (music is turned off outside, on in towns) I immediately get whacked. In third person mode, I see a bandit with a battle axe standing next to me, hitting me in the head, as I sit on the stool. He is hitting me so fast, that I can't get off the stool. I die with my head sagging forward, still sitting on the stool. Sounds like the age-old bandit trick of putting Super Glue on a stool, and waiting in the bushes for an unsuspecting traveler.

Snip

Hahhahahhahah  Sorry thats brilliant imo... I can see the BHC headline now

"Kids reading is dangerous, burn your books people"....

Phintius the surly ill mannered NAY EVIL, bookseller in the IC market district is quoted as saying, "My books come with health warnings, its their own fault if they fail to realise the serious outcomes of expanding knowledge".

Phoss I Lol'd at the pic :) .

I had one strange moment when I took a nap at a mage's guild. Woke up in the middle of the night to find a woman in bed next to me, and a man standing over me. As I stepped away from the bad, he promptly climed into bed with her.
I guess he was just waiting for me to get up so he could climb in.

The first time I ever ran into a troll, it promptly killed me quickly. As I reloaded my last save point... right before the encounter... it saw me right away and took chase.
So i ran... I mean really ran... halfway across the game world, not able to outrun this thing. Suddenly, an imperial guard comes to my rescue, and then arrests me after saving me. So, I simply pay my fines and move on, but when it puts me outside the prison, I'm way back on the other side of the world near where I found the troll.
I guess the guard was in on the chase the whole time.

One time, while not doing a quest, I had Martin with me as I was exploring along some roads. I'm on horseback as some bandits attack. During the chaos of trying to dismount and join the fight, I miss the battle alltogether... and I can't find Martin or the attackers.
After searching the area for a good ten minutes, I find Martin, halfway down a hill, behind a rock, with bodies at his feet. It was like he was waiting for me to see his claim to victory.
