WTH happened?

Excuse me ahead of time if I come off kind of harsh. I have a Ultima Online set of mind (1996) and I know I could be bias at times.

Anyway, I've been playing the betas as they have been released and I couldn't help but think that this game is "...just like any other MMO". Sure, I see a little bit of Skyrim in it, which I loved by the way, but not enough of Skyrim is in it. I know this game is ESO and not Skyrim, but I'm sure a lot of people expected the same thing. All I kept saying while playing Skyrim was "wow, I wish this was an MMO". It's literally UO, but in a way better engine.

I thought we were getting a Sandbox MMO, not a Theme-park MMO?

Unfortunately, me and a group of buddies kind of feel the same way and it's not looking good for us. Anyone else feel like I do or am I crazy? Lol.

Cyrodiil is as close to sandbox as you will get in the game.

The only real theme park part of the game is the very beginning. There are story line quests you can do that will keep you on a path. Or, you can forget doing all of those initial quests and just go pick a direction and run. You'll find plenty of sandboxy things to do... :) The game is designed I think both ways... for those who need direction and those who do not want it.

You feel how you feel. I can see your point. I've heard similar ones from friends. Some say it's too mmo, others say it's too single player rpg. Which, to me, means they're doing a good job walking the line, and it's a tough, fine line to walk. I see the similarities in both, but it feels like it's own entity in my opinion.

Its never too late for a discussion? Let him have his say!

I agree OP...ESO is just a washed down copy of Skyrim and im not even nowhere close to being a TES fan at all.

To see if I'm the only one who thought the way I did and to get other opinions etc.

opposite for me. I got extremely bored in skyrim and found a lot of it to be pretty mediocre, especially the quests and enviroments, but I love ESO because it does a lot of them better.

That's the problem I think. I was a huge TES fan. I still say it's one of the best SP games out there. I compare these new MMO's with games I've played in the past and well... end up with disappointment to say the least.

You and me both brother. The glory days of consequence driven play are over. The kiddies have demanded EZ mode and their parents have financed the birth of a multi-billion dollar industry. The good old days are over.

I kind of agree in the sense that the environments became very similar. It was almost the same design, just rendered with different weather/colors. However, I love that I walked out of the first cave with my bow and arrows, saw a deer and spent 15 minutes hunting and forgetting that I had to go to Whiterun for my first quest. Lol.

How exactly is this game so different from Skyrim? They both provide a big open map full of NPCs which talk to you and give you tasks to keep you busy.

Of course it's going to be 'washed down' compared to a single player game, otherwise 90% of people would struggle to run it, and the epic battles with hundreds of players would cripple everyones machines.

I just see complaints like yours a lot and I'm confused what exactly you expected to get out of a TES game turned into an MMO.

You were getting a MMO

Don't like it - Door is that way, nice to see you and come back if you feel like it.

Yep. So much for hiding and killing someone for their gear. All games nowadays are built in carebear land.
