WTH happened to this genre?

I agree. I'd forgotten how much I've missed those times around the table. I was too young for the beer, but I sure enjoyed immersing myself in my character and in the world the DM was conjuring.

All the more reason to back steps in the right direction when they come, and be supportive (yet still offering constructive criticism) of those with the fortitude to take a risk.

You're right of course. I remember playing Rift in highschool. It was so much more satisfying than any videogame, and you had your buddies always with you. You want to become a fighter pilot? Sure, we can make a campaign for that. You guys want to be pirates, alright, I'll find some source material. Good times lol

Kind of. I've discovered that online communities are much akin to Facebook, really. The majority are a bunch of narcissists who couldn't care any less about others, it's all about them and how much attention they can get. But I see your point, you're right in this regard that MMOs offer a steeper curve of escapism because they can offer a false sense of social validation by other gamers which one might lack in real life.

I'll assume this post stems from another post and just point out a few things.

In ESO the above so long as it's effective as in the skill set in play and the player behind the keyboard. There is ZERO issue with being kicked from groups.

The issue (at least mine) stems from people who don't adapt.

Example there were dozens of posts about there being no build for a pure warrior ie no magic skills at all.

Since in ESO ALL class skills use magika a pure non magika user is NOT effective as the way the game is built the class skills are where the punch lies. Weapon skills do pack a punch but class skills have more utility (mostly) and pack more punch (mostly). There are exceptions but they are few and far between.

In the above example the person playing a non magika user whether a rper or not brings the group down simply because they refuse to use 1/3 of their resource pools.

Given the endgame content and pvp is based around the assumption players will use all tools at their disposal this example would be kicked from most groups in favor of someone who actually researches and knows their character.

That said it has nothing to do with rp and all to do with the effort being applied.

Also rp. Isn't a dirty word like you seem to think it is. Also being a min/maxer isn't evil. It is simply a play style that has existed LONG before MMOs came out.
