Wyre Mash

My operating system is windows 7 64-bit. Do I need to install python 2.5 or can I use a later version?

http://www.python.org/download/

3.1 seems to be the latest.

Probably safest to stick with 2.5, I've heard that 3.1 wasn't all that backwards compatible.

Okay. Thanks. Does that MOPY folder have to be in the Data Files or in the Morrowind folder? Does it even matter? What is MOPY? Is it an acronym?

The MOPY folder should be in the Morrowind folder, I don't anything about Data Files folder though.
I guess that MOPY stands for Morrowind Python.

Check http://www.python.org/ for the lastest version of Python.

But the latest version of Python won't work with Wyre Mash. Only 2.5. Or has somebody updated Wyre Mash since May 2009? 'cause that's when I last downloaded it.

Have you check my Python link yet ?

I think it's possible to install 2.5 and then update it. If is not working you must have the 2.5 version, you could also try the 2.5.5 version to see if this is the correct Python to run the Wrye Mash apps.

I use Python 2.6 with all available wrye tools: Wrye Bash, Wrye Mash, and now Gary Bash for F3.

I'd go with that version.

Wyre Bash is for Oblivion, right? Is it just as easy to use, too? Like click click done, they all turn green? Because that's how it goes in Mash.

Well similar but different - just like modding Morrowind is similar but different than modding Oblivion.

In Oblivion there is less need for save game integrity - you can literally take mods out and reload and not ever have to worry about the save game at all. Much heartier!

And with Oblivion more mods are made with Wrey Bash in mind and what it can do as opposed to what I seem to be seeing with Morrowind that Wrye Mash is a nice tool but not the backbone of the modding experience as it is with Oblivion.

I just installed 2.6.5 and I don't see how I can use it with wyre mash. It only gives me the options of 2.5 or 2.6. There's so many things to click on in wyre mash, how do I know which icon to use?

I've opened all the folder locations so you can see what I have.

Well there is the official thread. http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1068986&view=findpost&p=15636692 there is what I did. Basically you have to cut the short cut out of Mopy folder and redirect the target to Python 2.6 (I actually use 1.6.4) then copy it back into Mopy folder.

Also making use of http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1051299&view=findpost&p=15249068 was way easy really.

Yeah, I'm not getting what you're saying in that link. I have 2.6.5 installed. Those shortcuts go to a directory that doesn't exist since I have no 2.4 or 2.5 versions installed.
I opened Notepad and copied that code and made the wyremash.pyw but I just get this when I click it: http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/2308/24073836.jpg

And how do I create a new shortcut? I can't figure that out.

In trying to retrace my steps, I admit., I'm a bit lost.

Whenever I right click on the shortcut for the traditional launchers it seems to take a long time for the properties to open up. So I remember copying the 2.5 version out then opening up the properties and looking a the target for the shortcut which should be:
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Python25\pythonw.exe mash.py

I then changed that to read %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Python26\pythonw.exe mash.py

I then deleted the original shortcut and copied the new one back into the Mopy folder. Then the new launcher worked.

But I'm dumbfounded now as I look at the properties and it seems to have the Python25 path - even though I don't have python 25 installed at all. yet ... it works. So I'm not messin with it.

Wrye Mash also requires an ansi version of wxpython be installed (v2.8.7.1 (ansi) for python 2.5 or better is recommended).

Use Yacoby's pyw file to launch Wrye Mash instead of the predefined shortcuts - if you want to launch it from a different location, you should be able to copy it as a shortcut to that location.

If you're using Python 2.6 then you also need to install the http://sourceforge.net/projects/comtypes/files/ package to get Mash to work. Or at least I did.

I have no clue what an ANSI is or where to find it or much less, how to implement it. Python doesn't have an install icon anywhere. I tried googling "wxPython v2.8.7.1 ANSI" but found nothing. It's just a bunch of gobbledy gook stuff that is totally unfamiliar to me. I think because it's a programming language tool and I know absolutely nothing about programming or computer langauge, except that D is the latest language... I've heard.

From where would I get this ANSI thing you're talking about?

Also - I believe that even if you have a 64 system it is necessary to use the 32 version.

I have Vista 64 and definitely stuck with 32 version of 2.6.4.

Then actually what is more important to read for python 2.6+ may be the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1079336&view=findpost&p=15715018, where there is an actual link to comtypes that you need. Set up the Python as if supporting Wrye Bash and remember that the documentation for Wrye Mash is showing age. The most progress and latest news about support for any Wrye tools is going to be found with those actually developing the it and right now that is headed by Pacific Morrowind on the Oblivion Forums and Valda on the Fallout 3 forums.

I totally forgot about those prerequisites and had all that in place before coming back to Morrowind/WryeMash - I mean how often does one install this stuff, you know?
