XBOX 360 250gb - XBOX 360 Arcade

Post » Thu May 05, 2011 7:36 am

When I play skyrim would I be better off having the newest 250gb model or will the arcade version perform exactly the same?

O and does anyone know if you can install skyrim onto your harddrive to improve the loading times?

You need a save device in order to save you're character.

Besides that its not much of a difference, besides that fact that you can install games to the 360 hard drive to improve load times.

All versions of the 360 have the same ram & graphics processor, only difference heat sinks.

Older versions are prone to overheat more than recent versions of the 360. As I said its not any difference. Hope this helps.

The arcade version of the 360 doesn't have a hard drive, so loading times will be longer, as it loads in from the game disk.

This was the case with Oblivion; it took a lot longer for zones to load in on my arcade unit. I then bought a hard drive, installed the game to it, and the zones loaded in much quicker.

Also, it's much noisier on the arcade unit - the 360 DVD drive is quite noisy. If you have a hard drive installed it only reads the DVD disk for a second or so at the start, so it's a lot quieter.

Without the (relatively) fast hard drive to load from, you're loading from the slow optical drive - you'll get performance benefits from installing, but MS' guidelines prevent the game requiring a hard drive, so it was to be 'playable' from a disc.

I'm no expert on 360's, but I'm pretty sure the game is loaded onto the RAM, not the harddrive.

It's not about where it's loading to, it's where it's loading from, loading from the hard drive will be faster then loading from a DVD. With the exception of using Swap/Virtual Memory all loading will be placed on the RAM, and as I don't believe any of the consoles use Swap or Virtual Memory then yes, it should all be on RAM, but it's the from that matters in this case, not the too. That Said I don't have an X-Box 360 and don't intend to get one, but I just happen to be an Expert in computing.

There really is not a difference in power between the new models and the older ones besides the hard drive size. When you install the game to the HDD the load times make it much quicker then it would be from the optical drive. IIRC the new S models are on a new manufacturing process, however they did limit the speed so it was equal to the older models of the Xbox.
