Xbox 360 Achievements

Post » Thu Dec 23, 2010 4:31 am

Why only Xbox360??? What about the PC and the PS3?

Anyway, I voted for Fallout style but there is no way I am playing this on my 360.

EDIT: Personally, I like the trophy system on the PS3 way better than Achievments on the 360.

I'm not a big lover of achievements or gamer score....thats not why i buy games.
Each to their own.
I play games to get involved in them, get into the story,to have fun.....i don't give a monkey's backside about my gamer score.
I know people who buy games just for score....whats the point!
If they like to do that fair enough, but not me.
The only thing i would like achievement wise though,is stuff from skyrim for my avatar.
But in all, i do not care for achievements or gamer score.
I play TES because i like it,i like to roleplay, not because i get x amount of points next to my gamer tag.

Achievements (out of game) remind me of the good old days of highscores in arcades. That's why I love them. Keep in mind Oblivion was a launch window game, just about all the achievements back then were just for completing the story or whatever. They were some new thing devs had dealt with before. But now, as we've seen with Fallout 3 bethesda is ready to do some more creative achievements and I hope that trend continues with Skyrim.

In my opinion about half the games achievements should be story/quest related. With the rest being silly, fun, and some that are actual achievements. As in challenging.

Of course trophies, and steam achievements will be there too. I just used achievements as my example because I play on X-box 360. :D

Edit* Another great thing about achievements is they make you do things you might have never tried before. Such as:

Completing Dark Carnival while carrying Gnome Chompsky all the way to the end in L4D2.
Performing a assassination on a elite to survive a fall that would have been fatal (campaign) in Halo Reach
Doing a 500 foot long wheelie on a motorcycle in GTA IV. etc.

All things you might not have tried otherwise. I know I would have tried the first two even if there wasn't a achievement for it ^_^

I think its fun to call someone out. When its clear they never played a certain game but hate on it anyway.

Guy 1:"I played oblivion and it svcked and was all lame like" "The prison was so slow, and the cities were lame"
Guy 2: "really,I don't see it on your gamer card."
Guy 1 "I did not get far enough to get an achievement,so I deleted it"
Guy 2 "you get one for getting out of prison...."

I agree with what Outlander said. I like to... collect achievements :whistling: And the best ones to me are the ones that are challenging but still fun, and then ones just for doing whacky or random things that one might not think is worth an achievement. :shifty:

Those are like the people that didnt like Mass Effect because it was so slow, but they never got past the first visit to the Citedal.

And to me Achievements do what they are meant to do, they add replay value to games that otherwise, in this day and age, I probably wouldnt play again after I've beaten it once or twice ( excluding games like Fallout and and TES )

:o You have about 3 times the gamerscore I do. I have 28,453. I approve

And I agree.

I mean, I love achievements and for people who don't that's fine. It's just something that adds to my experience :D

Haha thanks, I've had my XBox 360 since February of 2006 so I've gotten a bit up there. Oblivion was like my second game :celebration: I hope Bethesda gets creative with Skyrims achievements.

I dont hate achievements,i just wouldn't care if they were gone.
I can understand the replay value alittle ,but i think thats down to the game makers to be honest.
The downside to achievements is people bypass alot of whats in games to get them.
I have a friend who blasted through oblivion and fallout NV just to get the achievements, and never bothered to take in the story etc.
I would mention things to him,and he would say never knew that or never did that....such a shame in my opinion.
But i can't blame achievement's for that alone, some of it is down to the person, but people do get obsessed with gamer score etc,and alot do miss the point of the game itself.

It's impossible to have total immersion, so saying something breaks immersion is like blaming one soldier for all the death in war.

I've had mine since January 2006 and Oblivion was my third game :lmao: There is a tragic story with that though... When I got X-box live Microsoft had not implemented the "Upgrade your offline account to a LIVE account" option yet. So, I made a new account in 07 and therefor lost a year of gamerscore. I still haven't completed Call of duty 2 on veteran again :(

Ouch. If it was a LIVE account you could always just recover it through X-box live. And if you happen to know the serial number of your X-box you could call Microsoft and inform them of the situation, then if that X-box ever goes on X-box live they would have the guy who stole it.

You guys remember when people used to play games because they liked to play games.

Now it's more like... "I'VE GOT ALL TEH ACHIEVEMENTS FOR BLACK OPS AND LIEK UHH I AM AT LKE 50 PRESTIGE HOLMES!11!" @ 12 year olds.

Perhaps ONE achievement; "You've Completed the Main Quest!" - 1000gp...

Joking aside... I think fun ones would be nice, perhaps completing a few side quests would be nice and being awarded for doing so.

Actually I remember when people used to play games to beat the local arcade champions high score. You can't blame achievements for idiots on the internet.

Not necessarily. I work for xbox customer support, we advise customers to contact local law enforcement and they can call us and we give them a number to an internal department that deals with local legal authorities to find it. But most of the time nothing ever comes of it.

Well that just shows you shouldn't always think the news stories of such things being successful is the norm. :sadvaultboy:

I like achievements, and they add something to the game for sure. I've found myself 'cheevy hunting every time I got bored with a game, however I only have all achievements for one game. That's Fallout 3. However, Oblivion is the only game that I haven't been achievement hunting in. Talk about replayability!

I'd like my achievements rare with a salty crust, please. Fallout 3 style.

Oblivion is pretty much the only game i know with sensible acheivements.
take halo 3, triple kill with energy sword, in multiplayer matchmaking.
Timeshift host a server for 48 hours then quit
dozens of games, pointless amounts of collectibles.

those achievements aren't fun. just achievement hunters who get them.

I want a poll option for "I don't care about achievements. The achievement should be the satisfaction of doing things in game. I've never needed achievements in past TES games to want to do everything possible."

PC player maybe? :whistling:

Seriously, I think there good fun. There is lots of extra things PC players have, such as mods, which is a huge bonus, so leave us xbox 360 players to our little added bonus, which is trying to complete the achivements. It just adds a little extra dimension.

Most PC games (unfortunately) also have achievements. I play games for fun, not to increase an arbitrary number for no benefit.
