Xbox 360 controller compatibility

Post » Sat Sep 25, 2010 2:30 pm

Just wondering...For those of you who voted "no", why exactly do you not want 360 controller compatibility? It's not like you'd have to use it... so why would you care? What negative effect would xbox 360 controller compatibility have?

NO!
One out of billions of reasons I'm on PC is to use my preferred key board and mouse thank you.
If I want to use a controller Ill just go on my 360 or PS3 though that will never happen.

I have never had issues using xbox360 controllers with any game on PC, and I play quite a bit of different games.

LMAO@Immature console player. Thanks for reinforcing the stereotypes.

@Tgoodchild: Neither has Windows 2000, but that doesn't make it better than OSX does it?

I don't get this war between console and PC.... You didn't make the PC or the console so you shouldn't have a side on it. I like them both, I play games on both of them and alot of times buy the same game on both systems. I won't buy a game for the console if I can get the controller compatibility for my pc because frankly, what's the point of having inferior software compared to my computer when I can have the controller and tv attached as well. You really shouldn't have an allegiance to one system or another, they all have their Pros and Cons.

Cool, you like to use the keyboard and mouse, so do I but I prefer the controller. I don't see how using keys and a mouse make you any better of a player than with a controller but okay...
As for if you wanted to use a controller, why should I be limited by console graphics if I can have the option of using the controller with $5000 gaming computer and attaching my TV to it and blowing my mind with the graphics? That's a flawed argument.

I really don't care if there is controller support for the PC version, but I'm sure there will be since Fallout 3 had it.

To be honest though, I really don't know why anyone would pass up using a keyboard and mouse over a controller... especially for first person game. Thats my opinion anyway.

I agree with you on that respect for a FPS, since the mouse is smoother and more exact but by using a keyboard and mouse I won't be able to pay attention to the tv as I have a gaming laptop and not a desktop so my keyboard will be right in front of the screen and thus trying to look at my tv and use the keyboard and mouse would be more annoying than helpful. But I like the controller for Oblivion and Morrowind on the xbox, it really doesn't feel any different performance wise other than the controller just feels more natural. Neither one nor the other will be better for how well you do on this game, it just boils down to what feels more comfortable and to me the 360 controller feels more comfortable for my 60+ hour straight play streaks I usually have with TES games lol. To each his own. Because frankly, using a controller doesn't make you any better a player than someone that uses a mouse and keyboard and vice-versa. I just like to be able to lay back, stretch out while playing my game while I can't really do that with my computer though I can recline slightly.

It will likely have compatibility for the 360 controller but will I use mine? Nope and for the same reason I don't play any FPS on console I won't play TES on console. I like the accuracy and control of my mouse for first person games. They're welcome to implement it, but I won't be using it.

The Xbox controller is horse excrement. You have to charge batteries for a Next Gen console controller? Even the original Xbox didn't need batteries. No thank you.

My xbox controller doesn't need batteries. Unless you mean the wireless one :P

Wait, wait, wait, wait... Did you really just say that because it is a next gen console controller it should not require power to work? What did you expect it to work on? Child's tears and Unicorn farts? Of course it needs batteries if it is wireless just like a wireless mouse must have batteries....

I never said anything about me being better because im using a Key board & mouse I just said I prefer to use it. There is plenty of programs to use if you want to use a controller on your PC. Making the controller supported will just be a waste of time and resources.

I voted No, because one of the major reasons I prefer playing Elder Scrolls games on PC (modding being the other major reason) is that I can use a mouse and keyboard. First-person aiming with an anolog stick without some sort of aiming assistance is very frustrating to me, personally, so using a 360 controller would defeat the point.

I have the hardware to use my controller on my pc and the programs you speak of I have tried and they failed on Oblivion. As for the wasted time and resources, it's originally made for the CONSOLE so translating the console controls to the PC version would not be a stretch. Do you even know how much time or resources would be used to do such a thing? Also, what might the time and resources be used to do if not allow the use of the controller on the PC?

But why would you keep people that might like the controller better for their TES experience just because you don't. So if you like the keyboard and mouse then everyone else should have to play using them also? I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong, seeing as how I like keyboards and mice with several games more than controllers, namely FPS, but I wouldn't say that you couldn't use a controller on those games.

They could be used to add any feature that could make this game better (example: weapons,a city,a quest, a part of the map,etc.). Well if this game as you said will 100% be ported from the console instead of Bethesda making a separate version for PC then it will be already included.

Not true as I have stated with Oblivion. As for coding in these controls, it takes less time to do that then trying to build another city. I'd rather have my controller be able to play the game with the same controls as the 360 on the PC because then I can use my computer as an intermediary system like the 360 so I can play the game on my 52" HDTV than my 17" 1200p screen (though an awesome screen it is). But I can't lay down and focus on the game on the TV screen if the computer is on my lap and the screen is in my face. I really do hope that they have real controls for the 360 in Skyrim because Oblivion had real issues with such things as the joysticks and several of the extra buttons even with mods and 3rd party programs.

For some reason these types of threads are fine during the slow times of the forums, we get busy and they are something we must either lock or babysit. I'm locking it tonight. How about reading through this rule:
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/724862-forum-rules-and-general-information/:
7. Flaming is not allowed.

Insulting individuals or groups of members and name calling are flames. Any remark that is made to insult another member or group of members will be considered a flame and thus you may receive a warning for it.
Calling people a troll or an apologist for instance can both be considered a flame as can calling someone stupid or ADD. Attacking Xbox players, PS3 players or PC players is not allowed and calling them "console kiddies" or in anyway indicating someone is in some way a lesser person because of their choice is considered a flame here.
