XBOX 360 DLC CONTENT from Bethesda Software

Post » Thu May 29, 2014 11:03 am

Trust me - you ain't seen sarcastic yet! But I keep a tight rein on it when I'm not sure what people will think of me.

I was kind of enthused by the Wizards Tower - but I can't get what's her name in the magic shop to talk about it, in fact - the damned place seems to never be open at all! I tried picking the lock once, and the topic still never came up

It's a bug introduced by Wizard's Tower and Fighter's Stronghold. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Mystic_Emporium#Bugs.

But she should still offer upgrades if you break into the shop. You may need to visit the tower, enter and read a certain book to trigger the upgrades in her inventory. Come to think of it though there may not be any dialog options about the tower, just the upgrades in her inventory.

Kinda off-topic, but this is how I felt sometimes when I started modding a few months ago. There are a lot of assumptions made by various mod authors that everybody knows what they're talking about when they say certain things (I could post examples but it would be really off-topic). When I first started I was often told to pay attention to ReadMes most of all, yet a lot of times the language in ReadMes is vague and half-baked.

Thank goodness I've got a lot of PC friends. :user: I'd be nowhere without them. But to get back on-topic, it mostly sounds like Greywolf hit similar walls that I did; all the acronyms (like DLC, PC, DL, etc.) are easy for us, but to somebody who isn't so knowledgeable....

This is great! On a related topic, I've heard Bethesda has started work on TES V!

Next time you run into this, give me a PM. I'll try to translate for you. :geek: I've been modding for a while, so just I may know a thing or two about it. :grad:

Don't Drizzt on yourself, Entreri. :nono: And shouldn't you be called Barrabus by now?

And with that - I think I'll just boogy on back to the SKYRIM forum. After all - it was only out for six years when I began playing it two years ago...

But I'll probably be jumping right into TES online - so we'll see what happens then.

Congratulations - you have finally made me sick of the hassles in this forum area

Consider the messages I must get from this all, if I read between the lines:

1) We DO NOT NEED YOU - we already know it all. (disregarding other new players for the moment)

2) We resent you telling us what we already know (again discarding the possibility of new people here)

3) We will continue to ridicule and annoy you regardless of your aims and intentions. *SEE: TROLL, Internet - wikipedia

4) It is important to (us) to tear down new people here so that we seem smarter.

5) WE DO NOT WANT YOU HERE * See 1) 2) 3) and 4) above...

Very well~

*He statezzz quietly*

PS: http://www.gamesas.com/user/758422-entreri3478/ Your location is more correct than you realise - I can no longer see you

~I have placed you on my IGNORE list, not that you had anything to offer that I was interested in anyway

Give us another chance, GH. We're usually not like this. I don't know what's wrong with some of the people posting in this thread. Most of us try to be helpful.

Huh. I'm actually a little surprised that we come off as xenophobic. The Oblivion forum is probably one of the friendliest places on this site. I don't think anyone here is intolerant of newcomers, and we certainly don't try and seem elitist.

If you're truly deadset on leaving, well, that's okay. It's your choice. But like Pseron said, give us another chance. This thread is certainly not indicative of the usual atmosphere here.

You definitely shouldn′t leave us, Greywolf. You′re just as welcome here as anybody. The fact that you bring certain things up is good since many of us longtime regulars take them for granted and thus we overlook to inform newcomers of them.

I hope you decide to stay or at least come back some time :)

This. Trust me, Greywolf, if you're headed to Elder Scrolls Online or Skyrim, you'll eventually see more rudeness than you'll be able to tolerate. I know because I've been in that sort of situation.

You've had more positive comments in the last few posts than negative ones. http://www.gamesas.com/user/758422-entreri3478/ is a rare exception to this, but he or she is not really a regular here.

It's unfortunate that the first responses pointed out the longevity of the DLC content without pointing out that you are welcome here and we look forward to hearing of your adventures in Cyrodiil. The best part of the Oblivion experience is sharing it.

Best regards,

Bobg

You obviously know nothing about mods. Most of the good ones make the game more difficult, not easier. At least the ones I use, and I don't even go for the more challenging ones. Try something like OOO then come here and say it's a cheat. :stare:

What? er no it's not, Mods can greatly enhance the quality of the game and make massive improvements to the overall experience.
Better Cities
Open Cities
Max Tael's Natural environment/habitat
Darker nights/Brighter torches
Immersive caves/dungeons
OOO
MMM
Francescos leveled creatures/items
Just to name but a few that hugely improve the game for me and and they all either make the game look better or make it harder to play so none of them are any where near to being classed as a cheat.

Jesu Christi what is going on here?

Gimme a sec, I have to read this thread twice.

==

Okay, wow, yeah GW don't have a fit.

It's just that this sort of thing tends to be common knowledge. I found the DLC as soon as i got my copy of Oblivion in the mail (because I had researched the game extensively before buying, it was my first Elder Scrolls game) and I wasn't that well-acquainted with XBOX Live or this newfangled DLC business.

People could have been a bit more understanding, but that's no reason to believe they outright hate you or don't want you here. Folks here are generally friendly.

Also, let's not say things we'll feel silly about later. Modding does not necessarily mean "cheats." In fact, I mod my game to make it harder.

I'd say that some of the most popular mods exist for exactly that purpose. :)

I missed this.

How can you complain about getting treated badly, and then say something as inflammatory and flat-out wrong as this? Most of the members here use mods, and I can assure you that they are not "children".

I have watched this thread from it’s inception and have found it a study in human behavior, both good and bad. And disgusting! My first observation was that Wolfie found and posted something that was exciting to him and wanted to share it with the community and was immediately assaulted for being a dumb newbie. A couple of posters saw through that and came to his defense, but that didn’t fly with the greater community, they still wanted blood. If one only reads the last post it becomes fun to just pile on. The moderators should have locked the thread just after glargg courageously apologized, but no, that didn’t happen.

I don’t know anything about consoles and all that DLC stuff, but if you folks will step back and read this entire thread with an open mind, you should see that it is just social media feeding on itself. Wolfie was under siege for two solid weeks, defending his position without flaming anyone, and with most posters not even trying to understand what he was saying. Even though PW and some others courageously tried to lure Wolfie back into the forum, he saw the writing on the wall and split. I would wish that he would return, not to this useless thread which should be deleted, but to the Oblivion forum where his mind and logic would contribute much.

If you think this type of attack doesn’t happen, then I can tell you that it does, because as Renee stated, I have been there too -- and on this forum. The Oblivion General Forum may be the friendliest one around, but make the least little statement that’s controversial or newbie and the world descends on you. Years ago I used to stop posting for weeks or months after an onslaught for a “what did I say wrong post?” I’ve been shot out of the saddle more times than I can remember. And the moderators have told me that a smiley face placed at the end of a hostile post makes everything OK. So, now, for the last five years, I’ve learned to keep my mouth shut and just go with the flow. If it wasn’t for the cool voice of Acadian, I wouldn’t even be here now. This forum is actually a hostile environment with lots of land mines scattered about with lots of different egos on display, and unless you are a type A personality, a diplomat, or a sponge for abuse, then I would suggest keeping a very low profile. Then things go smoothly. And I’ve been here for six years.

I really find it intriguing that Wolfie’s last post was his masterwork by trolling you with an assault on the bastions of PC gamers.

And for what it’s worth, here’s my smil3y face: :D

Y'know, I feel bad for my last post, but even worse that this thread has gone so badly.

I apologize. I was an ass. The TS (jokingly) insulted modders, and I felt the need to stand up for my fellow members. However, that doesn't make the way I pounced on the TS okay.

Tmar, I'm sorry that you've had such a bad experience on this forum. Hopefully future visits will be more enjoyable.

I think I was the first one to defend Wolfie in this thread. I enjoyed his enthusiasm for the game and hope he comes back.

Yep, I suggest locking and leaving this thread as an example of what speaking without forethought, understanding, or empathy can cascade a conversation to.

Having been new and been fried/flamed on other forums so badly, that I’ll never give them the time of day.

At least here in Oblivion the core of the posters and followers are civil and very helpful.

Here also is an example of the difference in maturity. We all have reacted with a knee jerk at times and some have had the bravado to apologize for things said in heat or without thinking it through.

My hope is the example set by the apologizers would show others how to overcome their peer insecurities.

Anyway excuse my old cowboy mentality.
