Xbox 360 Editor How will it work

Post » Thu Jan 28, 2010 2:41 pm

does anyone know how exactly the map editor will work for the 360, considering that several up comming games are going to have some form of map editor and it would be a bad move on crytek to with hold it to pc gamers only, if there is going to be one will it be on the xbox itself as (downloadable content) or as a part of the shipped disc, OR on the side note a program for pc useing tranfer kits to transfer the map over :::::downside to that it will keep a lot of gamers without high end computers from building maps.......

well thats my opinion whats yours?

I think looking at the Cryengine 3 video, and site, we will create using sandbox3 on PC and will be uploadable to Xbox, PC and PS3

well put but still theres the problem with compatibility with most common computers such as some people who dont own a massive graphics based pc, its a well thought out idea but its still un-finished, i would understand a downloadable editor for the xbox that would run of xbox to limit lag when final product when its finished, honestly i have come to the conclusion that most deveolpers dont think outside the box in an entirety, the fact that not one single company has added more features to a game such as a new editor or a customatization engine is mind boggaling..... in the end alls we really can hope is that they make the best choice for there audience....

Well let's put it this way, in terms of system RAM SB2 uses roughly 700mb on a small map, the 360 has 512mb total, I doubt it will work...

In most cases, the Sandbox editor will only work properly on PC. If it came to console, it would be simplified like hell.

I wouldn't mind that, but as long as the Sandbox editor for PC isn't touched one bit.

Also, you can't upload anything from PC to the consoles. The tool they use for that is called LiveCreate, and that only allows you to work on PC, PS3 and 360 all at the same time. This tool isn't available for us, as it's a developers tool.

There is no editor for consoles. Only for pc
Sandbox3's recommend requirements are a core i7, a gtx280 and 4 gigs of ram. The sandbox eats ram for breakfast, so no chance for consoles. Despite that it'd be slow as hell and crytek would need to invest lots of time to create a sandbox for console. It isn't worth the effort.

Addtionally, we don't even know if we get the editor for pc. Nothing has been announced yet. Although I'm optimistic, regarding that. Anyway, if we get it we'll only be able to make stuff for PC. because we have no dev kits for consoles.

We have no clue whether the community is getting the Sandbox 3 on PC, let alone a console version. :(

Dude, did you read my post???
Of course, the devs have the editor, because they built it. But this doesn't mean we will get the editor. They could just say 'nah we won't give you the editor'. Just as it was done with BC2, mw2 and moh and idk what else. And a time trigger is no new feature, this has been in editors for a decade...

No, your underpowered consoles can't cut the mustard when it comes to the map editor, and I don't see them releasing some dumbed down version for consoles. my guess is maps for consoles will come in DLC packs, both some to pay for and some not to, the free ones being like community map packs and the like, thats my guess as to where it will end up.

The PS3 might have been able to do it if it had enough ram, but I don't think it does.

Heh, it'd be a great idea that some of the PC community maps would be released in community map packs for the consoles; this would atleast give a slight advantage for PC's.

Yeah, and honestly I think a community map pack DLC system is going to be the only way they get to enjoy maps not made at Crytek. That being said I think doing community map packs might be a little tricky to do depending on MS/Sony rules on posting digital download stuff and the like. As I understand it it can be 'interesting' depending on the situation.

still the point being that if they do not realease a map editor for the console version it will not work the game will eventually become like most games, useless...... as a console owner and pc owner i understand the difficulty in transfering such things cross platform, but if you look at Far cry 2's map editor the pc and console were very similar only differene was higher physics objects and the additon of lights for pc owners, crytek could in fact make a well balanced editor for consoles that would have a large majority of features that the pc will have but, the ram itself is only processed by the amount of textures and items needed to be renderd in a single space not the editor itself if you have a blank map it will lag much much less than a complete map.... ram shouldn't be an issue and should already be adressed by a company planing on transffering a franchise to a console....

Firstoff, it's an entirely different thing to play a game and develop a game. Secondly, the Editor was never meant to run on consoles, only the game is. The RAM consumption of the editor is huge, you're good to go with 4 gigs Ram. However that doesn't apply to playing the game, as all the memory intensive actions don't need to be made (Terrain/Texture painting, asset browsing...)

witch brings me to my next point the occlusion block idea has cut down on ram usage by a lot and if every single object has an occlusion block and its ture 4 gigs is recommended but still the fact of the matter is it can be done the map editor can be transfered even if its not completely decked out or has texture editing, or color selection. in any game all items and textures need to be rendered but thet best thing about crytek is it loads in real time and cuts down on ram usage, and that includes textures, and the editor also runs on the same engine only difference is the interface, its not a hud with a wepon but instead a camera in a 3d space to control and edit the renderd objects and textures, another example could infact by trials hd it was a physics based game and the editor was amazing and it only renderd the objects on screen not all the objects on the screen at once thats the purpose of real time loading.....in the end, the only thing that matters is that the company.... the company has the responsiblity to make it exsesible to all consoles, if they want to bring more gamers into ther community.....and all we can do as the public is hope and pray that the company decides to at least try to make it exsesible to everyone not just the rich and fortunate....

Because the only way to the PS3 or Xbox run a map editor would be something simple like age of empires map editor, nothing complex like Sandbox2

I never had seen Far Cry 2 map editor in the consoles, and it looks pretty good. It would be good to see that in Crysis 2, and even better if it was possible to transport the maps across all 3 plataforms, we would have a lot of maps. But Mods I think, in the next years at last, will still be PC exclusive
