New Vegas was developed by Obsidian not Bethesda (they published it), and if Fallout 4 is made solely by Bethesda i will more than likely preorder and get it, if not then it'll wait till its fixed...

OK Something that seemed to be consistent among a few of the posts including me....the three save files..

I only have 3 save files and also the Auto Save.

Also..just wondering..how many of you installed the game? I have. I also delete the cache.

The last few things I did before this happened were:
1. I freed Benny from the Legion camp and booked it out of there.
2. I went to the Brotherhood of Steel and initiated the quest to become a member.
3. I fast traveled to the north end of the strip.
4. Turned off my xbox and went to skewlz to learn me sum nowlege.
5. Came home and turned on the game only to have it fail.

Also I am a level 18 almost 19


Other glitch I have had that might be in some way related.

The 3 times i tried playing, once with it not installed twice with it installed. The first time through i didnt make it past mojave outpost before all my saves became useless (use a rotation of 3). So deleted those off my HDD then installed and cleared the cache. Was able to play through untill i reached Novac then all my saves became useless (this time i used a 6 save rotation). Finally i deleted all of the NV items from my HDD reinstalled the game and tried to play through it again, was able to get as far as the strip (story wise) before all my saves became useless (6 save rotation).

Never made it past level 10
The saves would not load after having restarting the counsil or leaving it off for a while.

Well, it seems I have had some success. The last save I did was just before I spoke to a certain person to get rid of some "demons". I don't want to spoil it. So, any save file AFTER that does not work for me. I'll have to do this mission all over again (*Cringes* That means I have to endure the scary parts again. CRAP!). But, this save file is indeed working.

I will keep you all updated. But until then, this is what I did:


1: Deleted the DLC.

2: Cleared the Cache.

3: Installed the game this time, which is something I have never done before. lol.

4: Cleared the caches again.

5: Restarted the xbox and tested every save in order to find out if ANY of them work.

6: Found out that the very first save (before I finished that mission) is the only one that works. Any save after that mission and that particular save file will NOT work.


So, here I have to endure the scary parts again...my God! :cryvaultboy: I need someone with me. *cries*. But, if anything happens, I will update you, guys, as I said before, ok?

I'm sorry to hear that this problem has happened to so many people.

I came here to read up on this after a friend of my friend got hit by it. I'd like to mention in hope that it helps, that I'm currently:

Given the last part, I can't offer much insight about the problem. But I would like to mention I've been a longtime fan of Bethesda since TES 3, and they get the picture better then most if not all other gaming companies I've seen out there. I'm sure that once the problem has been better identified, it will probably be quickly and utterly squashed by them. Your feedback and re-creation attempts here are probably helping them alot, so keep it up.

How many people that have this problem have cleared their cache?

If you take a moment and read some responses, even mine, you will find that most of use did that and suggested it to others. I have done that and found that now only ONE save of mine works now. So, I am sure people have been doing that. But, it hasn't solved everyone's problems, ya' know?

hey smart guy..I mean DELETING THE CACHE could be the problem.....seeing as it seems to be the most common thing between everyone on here with this issue.

if you read the posts you will also see that I am suffering from this as well and I have deleted my cache, ya' know? lol

another thing i noticed is that every time the the title screen loads the options flash twice as if being loaded a second time.

If I jump the gun and hit continue right away and it loads the "continue from last save? Yes or no" it will back out of it instantly until I hit continue again..

also I just downloaded the Mercenary pack or what ever. and you can see this same issue again

When the title screen opens it says, "loading downloaded content" then it goes away and comes back and says the same thing and goes away for good.

so I dont know if that is an issue but it just started this whole thing when I first got this error

First of all, I am not a "guy". I am full blown woman with full succulent briasts. Second, I wasn't trying to be smart with you at all. I was just recapping and answering your question that people have done this and are still suffering from the same problem. I was suffering from this an hour before I was even told to clear your caches or even KNEW that cache clearing was even possible ON an xbox! Clearing them only helped me find one save file that still worked. Every save file after that will not work.

It seems to me that this started, for ME at least, because of the DLC. It's gone and I can't use it any more. But, after further reading, it seems that other problems in the game caused this major issue to happen as well.

Yes but it has Bethesda's name attached to it and throughout the multitude of bug threads that are continusously sprouting up im willing to bet AT LEAST 3/4 of the threads someone has mentioned how Fallout 3 was plagued with nasty bugs. It took Bethesda 2-3 months I believe until the game was functional for a lot of people. If they do not fix these issues quickly i am willing to bet less people will buy their next game right away and instead wait for the "standard wave of bugs from a bethesda game" to show up, get fixed in a month or two and THEN maybe buy the game. Hell im sure quite a few copies of F:NV have already been returning to shelves over all the bugs people are dealing with, and I know i have been passing along to all the people I know to stay away from the game until they fix all the problems.

I have finished come fly with me, and i did pick up the spacesuit. I have 2 companions, the enclave eyebot thing and boone. I do not have any DLC for new vegas. I have had 3 or 4 auto saves go corrupt throughout the game, but no DLC errors or save location errors. By corrupt i mean, the save file is stated to be corrupted and cannot be loaded, error message stating save is corrupt. i have been able to over write them in game no problem. I just cringe a little evertime i go through a door, fast travel, or sleep expecting the sound to load but nothing else. all manual saves are fine. wouldn't suprise me if it was my old console failing to load properly while concurrently saving.

if you get an error that a save file is corrupt, the local save data is corrupted and no patch can fix it. most of these save erors seem to be DLC related, but again, if local save data is corrupted no patch will fix it. if the software is not properly identifying the DLC, it is most likely software related. that being the issue, it could be resolved with a software patch; most likely a patch on the DLC. there's 50/50 chance your saves will be restored. why are you playing an RPG with few saves anyway?

There's alot of complaining here i don't feel is warranted, if anyone has ever tried to troubleshoot someone elses issue, the key is replication. and anyone who's ever taken a tech support call will tell you; you can't replicate or identify someones issue if all you get from them is whining and [censored]ing like children with no details or specifics. lets keeps that crap in general discussion not the tech feedback forum. they need facts not complaints here.

I understand what you're saying to a certain extent, but to say people here are whining? People (including myself) are paying 60+ dollars for a game they expect to WORK properly. So when they put 10 hours of their free time into the game only to have that time count for nothing, what do you expect? Maybe everybody doesnt have the exact facts because they were struck by the bug when they didnt know it existed like I was, so they would have to waste another 5-10 hours to replicate it (which I attempted but couldn't get it to strike again).

I'm not trying to troll you or anything but its kind of annoying to see someone come on here and say these people are complaining when they have every right to - on any forums they want because they arent being provided with a game that is free of gamebreaking errors.

hey have anyone had trouble where they go through a door and then after teh loading screen u get a black screen that refuses to go away but then after you restart the save becomes corrupt its happened three times and this last time i was all the way to Spoilers*** hoover dam protecting the president****End spoiler

I ran into the issue while in Vault 3. I went to save and the game said that the DLC was no longer available and it kicked me out to main menu. I have 3 saved files that are within an hour of each other that will either crash the game and forcing me to do a hard reset of the 360, or It will give me the error:

I've tried everything from clearing cache, redownloading the DLC pack and none of that worked.

I'm gonna go to bed and hopefully in the morning we will receive news from the developers.

I'm a little pissed because I'm looking at about a lost of 6 hours in game play here. My last working save file is 25 hours in and the bad save files are about 31 hours in. It super svcks and I really don't want to do it again.

And update alert popped up a while ago and I honestly don't know what it updated. Did any of your get this update alert as well earlier this morning around 6am?

I will be patient when Fable 3 gets here, to be honest. lol! That way, I can put this game aside and wait for a patch to come out because starting over is ridiculous. It really is. Just have to call a spade a spade. I don't know what the update fixed, but I am still having the same issue of game saves not loading, DLC claiming to be gone and therefore the save file can't load, and if it tries to load, the loading screen freezes. So, I don't have a clue as to what is being fixed, but I know what is NOT fixed, ya know what I am saying?

Again, I can't wait for Fable 3 to get here. That way, I won't have to have this game on my mind until the patch is released.


But, I cannot say it any clearer than the way @Capnman put in his post up above. People have a right to "complain" and "whine" if they want to. They have that right whether anyone believes it or not. Just as they have a right to voice their frustrations and disappointments. Will it make progress for a patch to come out faster? Of course, not! But, when you spend $60+ on something that you EXPECT to work, you don't want to have to go through the trouble of returning it. That's wasting gas money and time spent and it surely doesn't make the companies look good in the future. I can't get any of my saved to work after I had found the solution and had one working save left. I played all through the night, but when I went to reload a save, the issue of none of the saves working occurred again. So, what do I plan to do? Bite my tongue, bite the bullet, sit back and wait for a patch. I DON'T want to do it, but I have to. Fable 3 will be here next week, I can play and have fun on that until New Vegas is fixed.

But, I can understand and empathize and sympathize with what everyone is going through. My issues started when I entered boulder city. That's all I know. I took a nap yesterday after playing the game all morning, I wake up in the evening and BAM! I have game issues. Nothing I can do it about right now. I have done all I can. The same as everyone else. Now, I am starting over, but going a different route. I won't TOUCH the storyline. I am going a different direction. I am still keeping my old game saves, but I am not going the same route I did before until a patch is released. Simple as that. :mohawk:

Made an account just so i could tell my story also. Made it through to the part after getting the chip *spoiler ahead* was a lvl 22 with 26 hours in was on my way to kill mr. house and take over the strip with yes man when i decided to save and call it quits. Got on the xbox forums to check messages and notice fallout got updated, got on updated and now i can't load my saves i am having the same issues and also noticed the thing where it double loads saying are you sure you want to continue your game. I can however make new games but i don't want to keep flushing 26 hours of game play down the drain every couple of days!

I had to register once I saw the announcement that 'a small group' of Xbox 360 players was having this issue. I am not sure how true this is. I suppose given as a percentage those with issues might be seen as a small group but of the four people I know who purchased this game on release day all of us are having save game issues after the "Come Fly with Me" quest. We have done reloads and cache cleans and deletions of DLC and everything else that is mentioned. Nothing works once we complete that quest. We all get the same error spoken of in this forum which states:

This save game relies on downloadable content that is no longer available. Some objects may be no longer available. Continue Loading? yes/no

Then after selecting yes:

The storage device you selected is no longer available. Load canceled.

Then the game resets to opening screen.

All saves after that quest are broken this way. I have one save that I right before "going to get parts for Chris" that loads but it seems any way I complete this quest after that wrecks my save file. This is very frustrating and so I wanted to let Bethesda know that while looking down from the top it might be a small group experiencing this issue, looking around at the bottom 100% of my view is having it.

I just registered to post my issue as well. Mine parallels what almost everyone else has said. Incident occurred right after I completed the "Come Fly With Me" quest. I loaded an old save and continued on yesterday as I had not read anything about any issues. Well I apparently have overwritten that save and now all my saves will not load. Stupid mistake but I was not aware of the issue until last night.

Like others I am hoping the save files are salvageable because they don't seem to be corrupt but rather not being recognized by the game.

I read a patch went live but have not heard of what was fixed. I think it's ridiculous that we have all paid $60 for a game that is now broken beyond playing and all I have read is "we know of an issue" and "we are working on it". I think we deserve a status update. How much longer will it take? Do they know what the issue is? Are our game saves completely gone?

If this isn't fixed or close to being fixed by Tuesday then I will likely return the game as defective and pick up Fable instead. As sad as that will make me.

i updated earlier today, while my original character could still not be loaded, i proceeded to do the fly by me quest with my new character, the bug did not occur when i did the quest, not 100% certain it's gone, but it's working for me atm, if anyone with the patch receives the bug in another playthrough, be sure to post that it still exists, i would like to see an changelog that the update does though

Yea i updated to but uniuckly for them thedidnt fix the issue.
I would give you a word of caution, on a fourth new game trying to actually get past novac i did, but the the save game bug happened inside silver rush in freeside.

Decided to give the game a test run after the patch. Lucky for me one of my saves work. Only an hour behind all those DLC save issue files. Well my char is saved right outside the Tops. I tried saving and loading right outside doing nothing but move close to the Tops. Able to load. But it seems as soon as I go in and turn in the 3rd person for the Talent Pool quest, I'd save and try to reload but then I get the DLC issue again. So loaded my good save again, went to Camp McCarrion. Saved and was able to load with no issue. Seems the Talent Pool quest is what is screwing up my saves. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but thought I throw this out there. Still going to try and see if anything else messes up for me anyways.
