I want to know how they plan on releasing a fix for this bug will it be a dlc? If so seems that it will require xbox live a large reason I got NV was to be able to play hours of gameplay with out being required to use xbox live. Am I going to have to get internet connection and a xbox live account just to completely play a game I payed good money for I hope an alternative that will not require further investment on my part will show up.

If you dont have internet connection for live you shouldnt be buying games so quickly without waiting and doing a little research. Its their fault that the game has so many issues, but you shouldve been waited a bit to see if there was serious problems. Without patches sometimes games are unplayable. After having my problems with fable 2...and no patch support...i decided never to buy a fable game again.

My save games started corrupting during "come fly with me" too.
The most recent save that I could get to load after i realised that I had the problem was one I'd made just after getting davison (the antler guy) to leave. I thought maybe it was a problem with the rest of that quest so I decided to leave it be until the patch but all thevsaves I made after that weren't loading so now I'm stuck waiting for it to be fixed. Seems like the problem is definitely related to this quest.

So I just registered to talk about this issue as well. I have not seen anything about any "come fly with me" quest in my game. Yesterday I was clearing out a vault (Vault 3 to be specific) that was filled with a bunch of fiends who had some prisoners (It's a quest called "Booted") and they were led by a dude with a chainsaw called motor-runner. He didn't fight me, just tried to talk. If you leave him alone he will just sit back down, but if you kill him, "QUEST FAILED: ABA DABA HONEYMOON" comes up on the screen. I have a save before I finished clearing the vault which still that works, but everything saved after I cleared it out doesn't work. Note that in the corrupted saves, I had not killed him, and released the prisoners. Also, one of my saves does not do the dlc message, just freezes at the loading screen. I reloaded the working save, and did not even enter into the part of the vault where Motor-Runner was, nor did I interact with the prisoners or the rest of the vault. I exited, and saved two times. Loaded them up and they loaded fine in working order. The other saves are still corrupted, but this one works fine. I then went and reloaded the previous working save again, and killed all the enemies, apart from Motor-Runner, looted the place, and freed the prisoners and continued my way north to the crimson caravan base and NCR base near it. I created some test saves, and none loaded. I reloaded the original working save once again, and after looting the place, killing everyone, etc. I created some more saves, none of which worked.

After all this I decided to take a nice long break from frustration, and later I'm going to load the save I have (the one where I just immediately exited the vault and saved without interacting with anyone) and I plan to make my way north to the crimson caravan/NCR base and see if my saves still work. Thought I'd let everyone know about all this since it seems to be completely unrelated to the quest you all keep mentioning.

Figured I would give an update on my status post patch:

My save files are all still having the DLC problem people have been mentioning. It says I don't have it...blah blah... all that stuff. However it use to not even go to a loading screen. Now it does and the loading roulette is able to make about one revolution before the game gives me a black screen and the same DLC choice as before. I have tried doing everything suggested: clearing cache...deleting and reinstalling DLC....uninstalling then re-installing the game to my HD.

It seems developers are attempting to fix the problem but have not fully fixed it yet.

Anyone else have similar response to patch? Or at least have they played through where the DLC bug happened before with no issues? I would like to know before I restart my entire game to have it happen again in another 10 hours.

I also noticed load times getting significantly longer before this all happened. Now when I hit yes at the "dlc not available load anyway?" option my loading screen locks up.

And this kids is why you wait it out for a patch because the other option is IAMPISSED's way of dealing with it.

Did any of you that have this save glitch NOT have DLC installed? Or does it happen regardless?

I'm wondering because I don't have DLC installed and I saved several times, long after completing the Come Fly Away With Me quest. I also killed the man with the hat, turned the hat in, and could enter and exit the Strip without a hitch (or a hat). It's practically flawless. Baffles my mind. Didn't have any problems with Boone. No problems entering/exiting the casinos. Of course the game has freezed on me several times at random places, but it hasn't freezed since the patch. I transferred my save files to a USB drive to protect them and deleted the rest, so I could completely start over with a new game to see if I can get through another go without problems.

Did you have DLC installed when this save glitch occurred?

I have seen reports of both with and without DLC getting the bug. It seems like you are lucky one in this.

Oh yes.. yes I know. I guess that was the purpose. Was kind of like a "what if" sorta thing... Anyway I got the auto save corruption glitch, but that actually isn't my "dead end" problem. I went back like 3 saves (I save before every big event) and just approached the quest differently. The game breaker here is the DLC no longer available issue with the game crashing when you try and load to any of my files. There's a lot of them and every one of them is screwed. Hope they fix this junk... Till then! Gonna play some NBA 2k11 or something.. Serious. Oh and thank you for being understanding. =P

I think I may have stumbled across the trigger for the issues with "Come Fly With Me" entirely by accident! I decided that I would do frequent saves from when I could load the latest (I had just given Chris the toy rockets for the igniter and was about to give him the thrust controllers) all the way up to the launch platform. Instead of my usual meandering and scrounging that I am oft to do, I decided a direct course of action straight from the basemant to the platform would be my path. In this, I did not pick up the Hunting Revolver tucked away in a room by the stairs just off of the entry hall to the building. I usually noticed that when I would do the meander and scrounging, if I tried to save and then reload right after I entered (or anywhere within, for that matter) the Launch Control room (to push the button, Frank) my game would pop me with the DLC cannot be found, HDD MIA error. This time, with multiple reloads, even going back and loading an earlier save or loading from the menu, it didn't crash!!!! I think the trigger may be that dumb handgun!!!! Try it for yourself!!!

Might be getting somewhere. I didn't do any meandering or scrounging either because I was so ready to get them blasted off into space.

To update my situation, I finished troubleshooting and trying to find my way around this glitch, and my last effort to avoid whatever triggered it seems to have been a success. I have since played for a few hours with no sight of the error yet. I have been saving often and testing them out-all are working fine. All seems well so far, but Bethesda needs to get their s*** together on this. So far this has literally been one of the buggiest games I have ever played, if not the buggiest. Hopefully they come out with a patch that actually works SOOOOOON.

And I know it's obvious the patch didn't do much, but I didnt even encounter this problem until right after I downloaded the update on Live.

just wanted to share my experience, maybe it will help diagnose the problem(?).

Have: classic pack
1- today is my first time playing it since launch day. Downloaded new patch at startup prompt.
2- played 5+hrs including thru "come fly with me" quest. finished helios one quest. saving routinely manual every half-hour.
3- game crashed going into vats outside helios one. had to restart system.
4- selecting "continue" would crash game during loading screen.
5- restarted. tried loading a previous save from today manually.
a- got "relies on DLC that is no longer available" message. selected yes.
b- got "storage device is no longer available.load cancelled message"

6- Saves from Tuesday seem to load fine......not going to play them for fear of corrupting any progress.

tried:
Clearing cache- trying to start without downloading patch. no results.

I usually not one to complain, but this is a real turn-off. After buying the collectors edition game AND guide, i feel I've plunked down over $100 on a lemon. Spent over 5 hours today playing and now stressed and upset I may have lost all that progress. after a hard week at the day job i was really looking forward to this weekend, playing new vegas. real bummer. guess i'll watch House MD reruns.....

Don't restart . . . I had 25 hours of gameplay but I just said what every and restarted about a few hours of gameplay and now I have the same problem again so I think I am just going to sell this piece of crap

Ok, I've been reading about this problem for the past 2 Days. And I see the same Quest popping up, destroying many Saves. Well, when it seems that you were getting so close to figuring out what is causing it, I come to you with a new problem.

I avoided "Come Fly With Me" like the plague. I havent been near RCOMM. I have been given the quest to do.

Now my save game has been hit with the DLC Required lovely little message that I was definately hoping to see :\

I was last at Hidden Valley doing quests for the Brotherhood of Steel. Now, I finished them all, and was going to retrieve the lost Laser Pistol when my game froze up. I restarted my Xbox and tried to continue and my Loading Screen Froze. I tried to load from the point I left the bunker, DLC Required.

END SPOILERS

Long story short, I only had 1 One Save Game plus the Autosave *Facepalm*.

So Ladies and Gentlemen, I think this DLC BS is completely random, or something triggers it. Maybe a Weapon. Maybe a Type of Weapon. Maybe how many Locations we have uncovered.

This problem isn't tied to any quest like everyone thinks it is, It happens to everyone eventually no matter what you do. Obsidian and Bethesda are in big trouble.

^ This. I know to many it may seem that this is tied to quests, but it is not. I was 25 hours in and level 16...WAAAAAAY past having completed "Come Fly With Me." I fast traveled from Gun Runners to Mojave Outpost to talk to Cass, but decided to turn my Xbox off at Mojave Outpost to take a break. Come back a few hours later, and NONE of my saves work...not the 5 manual ones OR the auto-save one.

Here's to hoping Obsidian/Bethesda can come up w/ a successful patch for this soon.
