hello, i've been playing fallout: new vegas, for the past 15 hours, i brought it on release night, and have been enjoying it until i ran across this game breaking bug.

firstly, i'm not sure how to re-produce it, however, i do have a theory on how it may be possible(see below).

the bug is as such:
load a save game manually(via selecting load from the menu screen)
select the infected save file.
the game well begin to load
a message well pop up saying that the file in question contain's DLC that is not found on your system, some parts of the game may not be accessible, do you want to continue?
regardless of continuing or not, i then receive the message that the save device cannot be accessed any longer, and i am thrown back to the main menu, regardless if being loaded from within game, of from the main menu.

this has infected all 3 of the save files present, i have 2 main save files, and the auto-save, all 3 now display this message.
when i first encountered this bug, it was with the auto-save file, i was still able to load my manual saves however
later, this bug re-appeared, after i had entered a new area, i wanted to test something, so i have saved the game, i went and tried to use two magazines at once so i could access a terminal, i discovered that you can only activate one magazine, which was why i saved in case it wasn't possible, so i procedded to re-load from my previous save, which gave me the above error message, i tried my other save, same message, and the same message for the auto-save.

i do not see how 3 separate save files could have become corrupted, nor do i want to know, either way, i do not actually believe they are corrupted(image's of the last thing i saw are still visible, i just can't load them, without that dialog appearing)

my current theory of re-producing the bug is untested, however it seems to have occurred after i save, i proceed to do an action, and if the action fails, in-game, i select to load the save, and the bug happens, i cannot gurantee that this is why the bug occurs, or an 100% solution.

i do not wish to restart the game, please, this is something that needs to be patched ASAP, i don't think i'd feel safe playing again, knowing that after several hours, i could simply lose all my data because of faulty programming.

edit: also note, i do not actual have any dlc for this game

Same thing that has happened to me.

All 3 of my saves are ruined it's so lame. D: More and more people are saying they have the same problem so this is gotta be a big issue.

this is something that they better fix fast, else their ganna make alot of people shy away/return the game, this is the only bug i've ran across in the game, and it's a game breaking bug, it's nonsense imo, i never EVER, had this issue with fallout 3(played since day 1 of release), and yet, 2 days into this game, i'm hitting things that make it so i won't play, knowing that i can lose all my data at any point, just...no, most other glitches can usually be remiedied with a re-load, or i can just go do something else in the wastes, but i'm not ganna play again knowing it could all go down the drain because of faulty save's

I Agree! This glitch is un-called for.
But I hope they will fix it soon! Best wishes to them in that department.
I can't play the game like I said in my post on the forum because there is no point if this bugg is going to happen again and again no point in starting over if this is going to just keep doing this ?
I have to guess the people that have got realy realy far in the game either didnt die and kept going and then bugged out once they went to load it up . That is what happend for me.

i don't know about the people who made it further, maybe there's a serious of actions that need to occur for the bug to manifest itself, or maybe like you said, they didn't re-load often, but like you, i'm not playing until i at least see a patch for this game, i'd really love to continue with my character, but i think i could accept restarting if i know this bug was gone

Yeah if the bug is gone and it will let me load my character up fine and what not i'll be happy, cause im 12 hours in

If not I will just start a new character , still be happy knowing that the bug is gone and i'll start on hardcoe mode!

i'm ganna see if i can figure out a way to re-produce this bug 100%, hoepfully provide a faster patch if it can be tested for.

Well what happend with me was it was right after i gave away the platuinm chip.
That is when i could load fine but anything after that, as far as i can remember does not work ? I pretty sure there is a glitch with going into the strip that messes up with all your stuff ?

first appearance:
i went into the NCR ranger camp near havoc, just after talking to andy, and found everyone dead, i got severely injured, and decided to re-load the auto-save, and disarm the bomb's, but that's when i got the dialog saying it requires DLC, so i re-loaded an save from half an hour before, this is when i decieded to make two saves, and save often

last appearance:
i went through the test launch door to launch the ghouls, and i saved both files there, and i attempted to use two science magazines to get my science skill upto 55 so i could mess with the launch controls, but apparently you can only use 1 magazine to boost your skill points at a time, so i decided to re-load the save so i didn't lose my skill magazines, and this is where all 3 of my save files became infected=-(

edit: in testing to try and re-produce the issue, i started a new game, and saved, i couldn't get the bug to manifest yet, but when i select one of my infected save's from here, the game get's past the loading screen, i can see the background of the desert, but no assets of the room/other buildings can be seen loaded yet, however the dialog still appears here, and i'm kicked back to the main menu

Hmmm this has to be somthing to do with the game it's self then.
And then you saves become infected like a virus haha.
I think it has to do with you dying/ using the auto save because what happend with me was i was wondering the wastelands and got killed re-loaded the save by it's self and BAM none of mine worked haha it svcks ha ? 12 hours in and i was having the time of my life D:

i know, it really is a great game, i was getting so into it to, i really want to play more, it's kindof killing me that i can't, i'm not 100% certain it rely's on dieing since i never actually died, i only manually re-loaded because i became very injured, and figured it'd take 2 seconds to re-load, verse 5 minutes to head back to a doctor, and the second time it occurred because i didn't want to lose my science magazines, as well, any time i died in the past, i didn't encounter this problem, perhaps if we talk this out, we may be able to find a common thread where this issue could have started.

from the sounds of it you've already gone through novac, and i can confirm it's not dependent on the strip, can you describe how extensively you explored havoc?

Ooohh okay i did the quest for both of the snipers. Boom or Booth what ever it is. I got his revenge and he partyed with me.
Then i did the other snipers quest the main story one to take out the ghouls. I went throught did both of those and got out of the town after he told me where to go next.

ok, so you got booth, so did i(which i love his perk by the way), and you did the ghoul's quest, how did you handle that, were you able to launch the ghouls into space(assuming they went to space, didn't actually get to launch them thanks to this bug), also after that point, when was the next time you re-loaded a save?

I launched them into space. haha yes they probly crash landed some where thou xD and died.

And booth is awesome i love how he headshots everything in the way !

After that i went back into Novac and talked to the other sniper guy he told me what town to go to next and i started heading there.

so, the next time you actually re-loaded was when the bug occured though?

yea, i noticed the science panel, that's actually how i got myself into this, it was what i was trying to use the two skill magazines on.

the reason i'm trying to track down if it was after this point because of a post here: http://forums.gametrailers.com/thread/i-knew-it-guys--obsidian-was-g/1134507?page=8, it's the 10th post down, he says that the bug occurs after he completes a certain mission, and not before then(i wish he had said what mission), if we can track down the mission, then i'm ganna try to play to that point, and see if the bug occurs again.

Well i don't know when the bug occured because i didn't die. For the longest time. I don't wanna give anything away but i made it to the strip and got the coin back lets say. Then did all the mumbo jumbo stuff in the strip and headed out to the waste land thats when i finally died.
Which then the glitched happend. But it could have going on for awhile but since i didn't die or have to reload i did not know.

hmm, reading to the last page, it also looks like someone is having an issue with entering the strip causing the corruption as well, are, this bug is a real killer=-(

Yeah i think it's alot of things causing it.
It needs to be fixed noone can enjoy the good game that it could be if they don't =/

I recently picked up the space suit as well but I stored it in a safe in my room in Novac. I don't have it on my guy. But, an earlier save game that I have (before I went to Novac) loads fine so that sort of lends credence to the space suit theory.

I'm glad I didn't take off work today to play the game. I really hope they can get some sort of patch out today that will fix our issue. People are going to start flooding to the forums when they wake up and try loading their games. It's 6am east coast time now, give it a few hours, we'll see more people affected.
