PC. vs Xbox 360

One word: Mods. If you've never tried them, you don't know what I'm talking about and probably think I'm a fool deciding solely from one aspect, but it's true, mods are everything, especially in games like TES.

Connect your PC to the TV and get the best of both worlds. Enjoy the company of your wife, and enjoy playing the mods (sure, you'll have to use a gamepad, but come on).

He doesn't have to use a gamepad, he can still use a keyboard and mouse if he wants when he connects his PC to his TV.

No....no they aren't.

And even if I could never implement a mod in my game, the command line is just too incredibly useful. Fixing inherent things that go wrong dynamically, giving a bit more in-game reality to custom RP scenarios, etc.

The game is everything, modding isn't the most important thing to me. Sure, modding could completely change the feel of the game, but if you did that, whats the point? Mods are a good reason to pick up the PC version, but not the only reason. The graphics are probably substantially better.

I'll go with the 360 on this one.

Mainly because I'm used to doing the heavy gaming in the 360, while leaving the strategy games to the PC. but the main reason behind this is that My PC svcks. I would love to try out mods, but I foudn that oblivion for the 360 was fullfilling enough, not that it matters because I wouldn't be able to run oblivion with full settings.

I'd rather have a stable fps and great graphics and a great vanilla game than a badly working ( due to my pc ) game with more depth ( that I would struggle to use )

Just my 2 cents. If my PC gets better then I might consider it.

On the subject of 360 controllers, its possible to buy the corded one and stick it in the PC, works just like the 360

I feel the opposite. I cant stand the controls on PC, although the graphics and mods made me want oblivion for PC too, so I'm buying Skyrim for both.

I too, like you, find playing these games with controller clunky (to the point of being unplayable) so I would recommend you to get the PC version. Connecting the PC to TV and then using the gamepad doesn't make much sense cause keyboard+mouse (along with mods) is by far the biggest advantage over consoles so in that case you might as well get an X360 version.

I play on xbox 360,can't afford a high end PC,both are good.
Both have up's and down's.
In the podcast: Tod did say he prefered the xbox 360.
He said: "They develope graphics first on the xbox" and " it's smoother" his words not mine.
But PC's will have higher resolutions etc.But aslong as we all get the same working game all is good :)

The game is the main course. The mods are the dessert.

Whatever platform you chose i hope you enjoy the game.
But to people who play PC... you need to give proper advise with the up's and down's of pc's.
Not everyone know's everything about PC's.
Graphics are better...and mods are great.
BUT.....some mods conflict with each other, some cause problems, some fix them etc.
You can have game conflicts,PC is better, but can be frustrating to the average user.
Console's you just put the game in and away you go.
I would prefer PC,because i'd love to try mods etc.But i also get easily frustrated ,when things conflict and don't work.
I haven't played PC games for a very long time,so i'm out the loop.
I would just ask PC user's to mention the downsides aswell as the upsides, when advising someone on what platform.
Don't flame me,i'm just trying to be fair :)

The player made mods is really what makes people care...X360 owners won't have access to them. They can literally change the game for the better.

Fix't for ya.

And I guess it would truely depend on what you like/dislike about both platforms, and if your Computer would be able to run the game.

It depends on your PC

If you can run the game on decent settings then I'd say get that. If you're computer is a bit of a clunker then it's probably better to get it on xbox.

The nice thing about the game being made for the consoles, as well, is that it should run fairly ok on even old PCs. So that's a bit less of an issue.

It all comes down to personal preference and your PC/TV set up.

Reasons you may prefer the PC version assuming you have a good rig
  • Supior graphics
  • The controlls (If you prefer Mouse and Keboard)
  • If not you can hook up your 360 controller or buy a gamepad from varios retailers
  • Mods. Ranging anywhere from complete overhauls to clothing.
  • Adressing the comfort issue: If your HDTV and computer both have HDMI ports, and they should. You can hook your PC up to your tv and use a controller instead of Mouse and Keyboard. Assuming, your living room set up is so wired controllers don't matter.

Reasons I prefer playing on console
  • My laptop svcks and can barely even handle Morrowind. Plus it has NO HDMI PORTS. WTF.
  • Achievements. I need them.
  • The only real appeal of mods for me is creating them myself. And all in all, I prefer a vanilla game the way the developers intended.
  • I despise Mouse and Keyboard controls. To the contrary of PC gamers. I, being primarily a console gamer have more precision using a controller.

Basically if I had the right set up I would end up buying it once on X-box 360 to play the first time around and get achievements. Then when the Goty comes out I would buy it for PC.

Folks, it is not allowed to discuss modding of Xbox here as it is against the EULA for Xbox. :nono:

I think it comes down to a few things really:

Economy: Can you afford to upgrade/buy a new pc. Maybe your PC is good enough, I dont know.

Mods: How well do like mods? (I love mods, but as a poor student i can afford a good pc :P )

Do you like to play with the xbox controller or do you prefer a keyboard?

Do you want to play Skyrim on your TV or your PC: If you are married she might not enjoy you using the TV for Skyrim?

Make a list of pros and cons :)

My vote goes to PC.
You can hook up a 360 controller and the TV to your PC and enjoy all the benefits of the console version :)

I don't get where all this highend PC talk comes from. Any average PC should handle Skyrim just fine unless of course it's a bad port....

If you have a good PC you would want to go with PC, otherwise you could sink a lot of money into it
PC would be the superior, because it has mods and the optimization is that much better, and if you come across a glitch you can fix it, Todd even said PC came with bigger textures
yes it is true that the game could be made for xbox and ported to PC, but that can be changed with mods

If you already have a 360, and don't have a PC, and only have $60 to your name, then 360.

Otherwise, PC.

PC, I honestly can't stand playing 720p and a lowly 20-30 fps. Then ofcourse theres better textures, mods, most likely better load times, far better ranged aiming, etc.

I have morrowind and oblivion for both systems each and I prefer the console purely because I like using a controller. If I had a good pc and maybe hook my xbox controller up, hands down the pc would win.

I only play on the 360. I don't see how anyone says that the controls are clunky. They respond just fine for me and many, many other gamers as well with pinpoint accuracy.

I also cannot use these games on the PC. Most of the mods I have checked out that my friends have downloaded have been crap, I would much prefer the DLC on Live than worry about what someone made with the various construction sets.

This is all just my opinion and is meant in no way to flame anyone, nor is it directed to anyone in specific. I just much prefer the console experience to anything that the PC could ever offer. Gimme the 360 over the PC any day of the week. =)

If the Xbox 360 controller is officially supported, then PC.
Otherwise both.
