Xbox 360 Time Scale Possible?

Post » Wed Jan 05, 2011 9:22 pm

So in my current situation of life, disabled from a car accident, mother dying from cancer, father is disabled, family members going through divorces and bankruptcy, I simply do not have the means to build myself a new computer. However Skyrim is a game that I must have as I am a huge TES fan, and even buying the game for my Xbox 360 is going to be hard for me but I have started saving for it. Anyways this is not a post about my life woes so please understand my request here, and maybe this is something that maybe many of you Xbox players might support.

My suggestion is that Bethesda adds a time scale option to the Xbox 360 game. When I play Oblivion, Fallout 3 and FNV I always turn my time scale down so I can play at a slower pace. However with the Xbox this would not be possible, but I had two ideas that might work.

1. A option within the "Time" menu itself to scale the time of the game. Maybe you have (A) Select (B) Cancel and (Y) Time Scale. This would be the easier of my two ideas and something that I don't see as a problem for anyone else.

2. Make it so Xbox plays can use the dev console too. Xbox supports keyboard usage, many of us have USB keyboards, hell it could even open a screen so you could type in the commands.

I am giving up a lot by getting this on the 360. Mods are no longer possible, no more unofficial patches, no more higher resolution or better graphics. Is it to much to ask to be able to at least scale time? Well I guess it never hurts to. Also I am sure there are many others out there who would like the same option. I know I am not the only one who takes the time to smell the roses or RP in a RPG game, more so one made by Bethesda.

I'd like it if you could change the time scale. Not sure if it would be possible to have the console commands though - I'm no tech expert but I could imagine it might end up breaking the game or something.

Time-scaling sounds awsome, but im not sure if Microsoft would allow it on their console. However maybe it could be implemented by bethesda as a game-mechanics like some games have slow motion. I dont know.

(I'm really sorry about your mom.)

"Time Scaling" isn't what it sounds like. It's how fast a day passes, the default is 30x faster than real life, many of us use 10x or as low as 4 or 5x

On the PC you can by pressing ~ and typing in the command for it. Thank you for the kind words.

Good point, I could see people abusing it. Maybe as a slider we could change under the "Settings" menu. Hrmm, that might be more practical.

MIcrosoft does not allow for console commands because of the "Achivement points" you get in most games. If people have access to console commands they can cheat and get achivements faster...

Also there are sevreal reason like players breaking the game or makeing problems on the acctual xbox.

Yeah Microsoft ruins it for a lot of us, but I do understand their reasons.

Does the game have a difficulty slider also on XBOX? Doesn't that too allow getting achievement points faster than you normally would?

How about a tradeoff? You can open the console, but if you do, a warning comes up saying that character is no longer eligible for achievements if you continue, and a flag gets set in the save game, "NoAchievements=1" or something.

I could see timescale being changeable but definitely no console. The timescale is potentially gamebreaking, a couple quests would break if you had it on anything besides 30 in Oblivion (details on the UESP console command page). However, I don't see the point of changing it. Very few quests or game mechanics relied on actual in game time, the rest were on real world timers. What's more if you missed something (like starting the first thieves guild quest) you could merely wait 23 hours and try again. There were a few quests that you would fail if you didn't do it fast enough but they relied on independent timers.

But hey, if they bug test it it can't hurt so [censored] it, go nuts.

It would be great if they allowed console commands on PS3 and 360. All they have to do is disable achievements when certain codes like god mode are entered.

I like this idea. Plus I know that console commands can be put in games, just check out Two Worlds it has console commands for Xbox 360. I hope they use this idea

I totally support this request. I too, like to 'smell the roses' in a game like this... take it slowly and absorb the atmosphere and visuals.

A simple option in the menu somewhere would be great. In conjunction, it'd be nice to also have some options on how fast your character levels up.

Well if this was the case, once the "console" was opened on a console, "Achivements" should be disabled then for that game, simple as that. I don't care for achievements.

Sorry to hear about your mom. My mom passed away last year, she had cancer as well. I hope and pray for the best for you.

Yes time scaling would be nice. I find that the days and nights go by too fast and would like to have it go by slower. Would be nice for a 1X, 2X 10X etc options in the options menu. While I don't think
Bethesda would add anything to Skyrim now, I still think it's possible for them to do so. Would be a nice option to have.

Ooh yes please! I'd love a slider option that lets console players change the time scale anywhere between the default 30 to being the same as reality. Its something that really bugs me in alot of games, days passing by so fast. :/

I had never even considered this, but days and nights twice as long would be wonderful. No way it will be changeable on Xbox, would have to be built in from the start. The trouble is if every suggestion for a slider or toggle on this forum was implemented, you would need half an hour selecting your options before you even got into facegen.

Not really. Go with the defaults and change as you learn more and more about what each slider do. Similar to "all those" gfx sliders. The only problem as I see it, is dealing with time limitations in quests. Choose to base it on real time, and fast travel ruins that. Choose to base it on game time, and they'll have to adjust based on sliders (and it's easy to see exploits emerge here).

I wouldn’t mind the console (with disabled achievements) or a time scale slider but I think instead of having a slider they should just make the days go by like this. 1 hour of real time = ? to ? of (Nirn?) Skyrim’s day, meaning if (Nirn?) Skyrim uses a 24 hour day 1 hour of our time = 6 or 12 hours of theirs. I think everybody would like this because it would make for longer days and nights and for anyone that doesn’t like the long nights can sleep or wait.

I can’t remember what the planet was called (Nirn I think) so that’s why I used (Nirn?) and wasn’t sure how long of a day they used.
