Well, apparently its bull [censored]. Microsoft already said they're clinging to the 360 untill at least 2015. If you can take their word...

Well it is labeled as a rumor and not official. We'll find out at E3.

I do not believe that Microsoft is ready to just announce their new hardware if thier is any. E3 every body. That's when they might announce it, best time I believe. And it better make nintendo's project cafe look like the Wii, that's all I'm saying.

Why on earth would BGS ever wait 2 years to release a game that you'll most likely be able to play on the 720 anyways? You ever heard of backwards compatibility? X720 will most likely be compatible with 360 games, same way as PS3 is with PS2 and PS1 games.

Besides, the release of new consoles follow something called "hardware cycles", and there isn't any new cycle any time soon so whatever you believe about new systems is just wrong. First you need to make the most out of the 360 and PS3, before you start making new systems.

E3 is next month and that's when it's rumored to be announced. Not sure I understand your post?

I really want to know who Nintendo's mystery partner for online is. If they are a small company it might not be a big deal, but if it's a well known big company things will get even more interesting fast.

If you can't afford a new console after having ~8 or so years to save, then you have WAY BIGGER priorities than trying to afford a video game. If you saved $10+ a month since the 360 came out, you'd be set. It's a hobby, and it costs money to fund. svck it up buttercup.

This is the kind of mentality that caused Sony to lose its dominance. The PS3 thus far is the only generation of console to launch at that price and not utterly bomb, and it was only the brand name that saved it.

The next consoles won't be that expensive again. It would be a horrible business move.

Well, anyway, the rumors have been squashed. /end thread

http://nexus404.com/Blog/2011/05/06/ea-denies-xbox-360-successor-rumors/

Rumors that EA already has dev kits for the next console from Microsoft have been dispelled nearly as quickly as the appeared, with the company saying that there's absolutely no truth to the rumors....

Good.

Plus no one mentioned the fact that there would almost certainly be compatibility issues with 'old' games.

A small company can't make a bog deal?

Why would they even be partnering with someone for online?

Someone asked Pete about this new Xbox being announced at E3 and if it would affect Skyrim's release date. Pete replied "Not buying it."

EA denied the rumors.

Hopefully it's not a cover up. I'd rather here confirmation from Microsoft instead of EA.

its not confirmed but GI just released a article with inside info stateing that EA has been using the new hardware for at least a month and that microsoft is planning to release new system by the end of 2012!!! should bethesda wait and make skyrim for the new console if true?

link to article http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gameinformer.com%2Fb%2Fnews%2Farchive%2F2011%2F05%2F06%2Freport-publishers-already-working-on-new-xbox-hardware.aspx&h=d5a74

Exactly, it's not confirmed. Microsoft won't bring out a new system until late 2014/early 2015, they've already said so on multiple fronts. They just started hiring engineers this year to design the darn thing, and from concept design to working prototype is round about 2-3 years. Then they have to knock their heads together to fix the obvious bugs and design flaws, try it again and then they release the mass-market next-gen console.

So if they only started hiring the engineers this year, then the next Xbox won't be around until very late 2013 at the absolute earliest. That is almost guaranteed in this industry. From what I've read on Gameinformer.com, the same goes for the PS3, but extend the time frames by about one year. Plus, Sony has their hands full with other hacker-related issues right now, so I doubt that another console is high on Sony's to-do list.

EA might be using new hardware to design games, but then again Nintendo is announcing a new console at E3 this year as well as Sony letting us in on the details of the NGP (whatever it ends up being called...), so they are probably designing for those systems. I have a very good amount of confidence that we will definitely not see a new Xbox/Playstation before 2014 hits. It just takes too much time to develop them and make sure that they are sending out a quality product.

After all, I don't think that Microsoft wants to deal with another "red ring of death" fiasco again. So I'd bet that they are going to take their time with their next console.

Peace out.

I didn't mean it would LITERALLY cost that much. IT was just an example, as saving as little as $10 a month for a few years and you could afford a new console no problem. I was just saying that people can't expect these consoles to last much longer than they already have. At some point in time, if console companies want to have their consoles remain a viable source of gaming, they HAVE to release new hardware. I don't see developers sticking to 2005 hardware for 10 years (if they are really keeping this 360/PS3 until then). They are already SUPER far behind in terms of hardware.

OMG ARe you serious! i can't wait it's going to be so cool. but maybe Skyrim can be on it to and have even better graphics then now cuz the new Xbox will probly be a lot stronger than any computers for years. but i wouldn't want to wait longer then November for Skyrim so maybe they could put it on both like Nintendo put Zelda on gamecube and Wii. :mohawk: :mohawk: :mohawk:

Back in the days before the Xbox 360 had been officially announced people called it the Xbox 2. Now that it is the days before the official announcement of the third console people call it the Xbox 720. I find this an amusing illustration of the Einstellung effect. The simple naming method would be to revert to calling it the Xbox 3, but because people applied the method of 'doubling' the initial number to name the new console they apply the same technique (i.e doubling) to the name of the second console and end up writing a much more unwieldy name.

Put another way - does anyone actually think that it is more likely for the third Xbox console to be called the Xbox 720 instead of the Xbox 3?

360 has alot of life to go as well as PS3 due to connect and move. They are still advertising the hell out of em and fairly new so 2014 is the earliest we will see next gen. The Wii 2 acts like the connect to move to the Wii pretty much it will be cheap but attract and entirely different fan base.

But at the end consoles shouldn't be planned to last five or more years period.. technology advancement is too fast for them to make it worth it and affects the gaming industry by using ancient hardware.

You don't compare the 360 to a regular PC. You compare it to a gaming PC. Since the 360 itself is built for gaming. And it's years behind the current hardware.

yeah but that's one of those like $5000 computers. I'm talking about a normal computer like most people have that can't have graphics as goos as an xbox.
