Xbox Divison - Key Investors Push New CEO to Sell.

Post » Tue Feb 11, 2014 3:19 am

Well I think this basically writes itself. This is the third or fourth time this has come up. I think it's an inevitability the xbox division will be sold. Microsoft needs to trim the fat. http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ltx7w7HREW1qc8jh0o1_500.gif is coming. I wonder if xbox will survive under a new company or get bought out by a competitor? I feel it is an inevitability and only a matter of time until we see it go for sale and whom the potential list of buyers are.

If they sell the Xbox division, how else will Microsoft ram it's view of the living room and how we should be doing things down everyone's throats?

The value to the company is far more than the sales generated by the division. Bing and Surface? Those can go the way of the dot matrix printer. I think I used Bing once and the Surface is just a cool product that no one really wanted.

As long Xbox can survive and keep everything up, I'm good. I still need to redownload a few things and even get other stuff for my 360.

I think it would tank... Maybe one of the Cable/isp/content companies would buy it as watch it burn in flames as they tried to do as little investing as possible.

Given its bleeding them financially. I think it's a sound idea. At least the last I heard of its sales. Big bleeding.

Selling Xbox would be rather foolish, it's one of the stronger brand awareness products they have outside businesses and a great entryway into the livingroom, and actually makes a profit these days (unlike MSN Music, Zune, Microsoft Kin and many other consumer-oriented products that never really made profit), even if they are still not making up for the losses from the early years (the original Xbox and the whole RROD fiasco) but that's just a matter of time. I just don't see it happening anytime soon, at least not during this console generation.

That said, if it somehow happened, I'm sure Xbox would die very quickly and only Sony and Nintendo would remain as major console players. And I wouldn't mourn them if they died either, the last interesting Xbox exclusive as far as I'm concerned was released 6 years ago.

I agree a bit... I'm just worrying about not getting a few selective things from Xbox Live...

Like I accidentally deleted my Anniversary Map Pack for Halo Reach so need to get connected and redownload it... Plus I want the next TU for Xbox-MC as well (TU14 should be coming out very soonish. Probably in March at least). Plus still a huge selection of Rock Band songs I've hadn't gotten to yet (Mostly Queen stuff).

I mean, after I take care of that stuff... I don't care what happens!

Lol @ this.

I wouldn't mind Sony buying Xbox and making the original Xbox 360 stuff free online (Like PS3) and keep Xbox One stuff P2P (Like PS4).

One of the things I kinda liked better with the PS3 than Xbox 360 honestly... I just don't want Sony to screw up all the good things about the 360 though. They can do whatever they want with the Xbox One.

You would mourn them, all right. WIthout serious competition, Sony would be free to release whatever crap they wanted without having to make an actual quality product (Nintendo doesn't really compete with Sony or Microsoft). I don't use anything from Sony, but I don't want them to go away.

If anything, I think RARE needs to be saved from Microsoft. Banjo-Kazooie reboot, anyone?

Nah, most games are multiplatform games. If Sony released some really bad gaming hardware it just means I would use another platform more, like the PC.

And actually, that would kinda be optimal if the PC gaming somehow reached the same unity as, say, the Blu-ray Disc Association. You have this one blu-ray disc and then a lot of different blu-ray players from different manufacturers and yet they can all play the movie. There's no platform war between the blu-ray manufacturers, and there should be no war between the game hardware manufacturers either. Just a common standard on how things should be.

I guess we are kinda reaching that point with the Steam machines, but I don't think that's quite an optimal solution either. An Association working together rather than a company dictating the rules would be much prefered.

Errrr, Rare is owned by Microsoft and are only working on the Kinect stuff these days. I doubt anyone will buy them anytime soon. (One might hope it's Nintendo, but eh.)

I'm just thinking from my perspective as a consumer. For the first time since Super Nintendo, I haven't had an interest in a console. They are going away from what I've enjoyed from a console, a cheap box that I can throw in a game disc to play. Now they are becoming what I have already, a gaming rig for almost the same price. Console seem to be becoming more of home entertainment centers instead of dedicated gaming machines. Heck, even the expansions are becoming download only.

My PC can do all that and a lot more for maybe a couple of hundred bucks more.

So what does this have to do with this thread? It means that whatever happens to Sony or Microsoft really doesn't mean anything to me.

...I know Microsoft owns them, that's why I said "Rare needs to be saved from Microsoft".

I get that, but my point is given Rare hasn't been a real success beyond Kinect since their purchase by Microsoft, I doubt anyone wants them.
