Xbox live to increase.

 I'm primarily a PS3 player and, for older games, a PC player. I also never play any games online, so this doesn't really bother me in any way.

It looks like Sony wants to do what Microsoft is dueing and make people pay for the online experiance. Their problem is, they used the "free internet play" card and really can't go back on it without a major back lash.

For some reason, it looks like people will go to Microsoft and pay for the online experiance but will not go to Sony and pay for the online experiance. I wunder why this is.

As long as Sony doesn't require extra money for accessing the online Playstation store and using Netflix on my PS3, it won't bother me if they do that, either. I hate multiplayer with an overly-biased passion.

I really am not allowed to say on the BSF what Apple has done. Lets just say... people are paying for this right now, I am not saying it is right or wrong, but people are paying for something right now which they can get for free if they really wanted too.

Which is a bit like saying that every company/shop convinces you to pay for something because you could steal it...

Uh from what I read, yearly plans aren't going up. Only monthly and 3 month plans. So yearly will still be $50.

Yes I can understand this, but give credit to where it's due at least. We get a great console and we don't pay the full price for it. We actually pay less than for what it costs them to make. Sony [censored]es and cries out in public about this, and Nintendo will never do this.

Then again, I am so use to ignoring advertising, since we are so saturated with it, that I don't even notice it. It use to bug me to have advertising even when paying for something, but now, I am use to it and I can ignore it. :foodndrink:

...and then they take a cut from every game you buy. They're not saving you money at all, they're making the price of entry lower so you can give them more money.

ok, i admit, ive played both PS3 online and Live and yes, LIVE puts out tons of content BUT, you have to pay for it anyway. Not to mention they even gave companies the option to block XBL parties for their games. So, thats just 1 game but why even propose taking away something we already paid for. not to mention to buy the tons of content you have to buy microsoft points...

Well I rarely go on xbl anymore..
.....and for some reason last year or 2 years ago xbl died out. :dead:

...What? How has it died out?

These changes won't affect my decision to renew come January, the way I see it, $60 for a year's subscription is pretty dang good, being only 5 bucks a month for the amount of content we get.

They did this so people couldn't cheat in competitive matches. Mainly because of S&D in CoD4.

Something I agree with.

If I still played on my Xbox, I probably would carry on paying. £1, in my financial situation, is barely even noticeable. However, knowing that there are other platforms available which are completely free (and just as good), I will most likely never pay for an online Xbox service.

I didn't even know what they charged before. I just signed up for it without paying attention, really. I don't even pay attention to what they take out. No big deal here.

The reason I think they started charging more is probably because of Activision. They said that 60% of XBL users only buy it so that they can play CallofDuty online. So they must;ve threatened them saying give us some $$$ or we are gonna stop supporting the Xbox.

Yes that is true as well. I am kind of the opposite though. I never play games online, but do download added content and tv shows (and sometimes movies). I suppose Microsoft should have some kind of much cheaper plan just for people who want to use it for online gaming.

I thought you could use silver for that.

It's going to be 10 bucks more per year, how is this a major issue? Especially considering how much extra content there is available and all the new features and such.

Funny how people complain about paying $60 USD a year to play on line and yet some continue to shell out $150+ a year for MMOs...

Extra content you have to pay for as well (DLCs). New features most people will never use (Netflix/Facebook). That doesn't justify a price increase on something that is too expensive to begin with.

It can't be compared to an MMO subscription. Compare it instead to needing to pay for internet access on your computer, even though you pay your ISP. Then add your MMO subscription on top of all those payments. (think that's insane? See: FFXI on 360)

Uh from what I read, yearly plans aren't going up. Only monthly and 3 month plans. So yearly will still be $50.

"The annual fee will go up by $10 in the United States, with one and three month subscriptions also going up in price."

Also for people who say Microsoft nickle and dimes their customers. Really? How is this? Micorsoft looses millions of dollars on their sales of the 360. Well at first they did, not shure if it is still the case now. Microsoft dosn't make any profit on it's sales of it's consoles, they sell them for a loss, so I am not shure how Microsoft niclke and dimes it's customers. This just sounds like Microsoft bashing. (Usually I make fun of Microsoft, why am I defending them in this case? I must be sick today LOL.)

The PS3 was sold at a higher profit-loss than the 360 was, and stayed at profit-loss for longer. Most consoles are sold at a profit-loss when they are released (the Wii being a notable exception), that is the way the console market works. They sell the console at a reduced price, and gouge the prices of games and content more (Microsoft also takes a considerable chunk of every purchased DLC too, charging the makers for hosting it). The 360 has not been sold at a profit-loss in a couple of years now.

A small victory for the PS3, but a victory nonetheless.

That is true, but you don't hear Microsoft crying and complaining about it. Sony does it because they have to stay competitive with the 360. If there was no Microsoft, you would not be buying a PS3 for so cheap. They complain about it loudly. Or I should say, they use to complain about it loudly. That was very unproffesional of Sony when they did that when the PS3 first came out.

As to the post that Activision told Microsoft cough up more money or no CoD on the 360, I don't think so. I would believe Microsoft would tell Activision to go ahead and make it a PS3 exclusive. Just look at all the sales Activision would loose from not having any 360 sales. The majority of their sales are from the 360. There is no way Activision will be saying pay up or else.

I believe the only reason for xbox live gold is for playing the Halo games online. Otherwise why bother since Halo is an xbox only game, so you want to play Halo online you need Gold. Other wise other systems could be used to play for free.

Part of me thinks it would be HILARIOUS if they encouraged everyone to 'stock up' before the increase, then on the day it was meant to go up, announced that it wasn't in the interests of the customers afterall and kept it the same. Which would have resulted in a giant jump in sales....

I fail to see how the every man for himself mentality creates a competitive match. At least they didn't block private chat...
