well, it appears M$ has just done another stupid but expected mistake. What will this mean for the future of online play and other consoles?

Their price has stayed exactly the same for the last 8 years while they've added more content....

I don't see an issue with it to be honest. I can't think of much else that hasn't increased in price in 8 years.

I just read this on gamesradar.com. I've been meaning to cancel anyway, so this has pushed me over the edge

I just hope we get something better coming to XBox Live. Like how PSN did it; people who pay get certain exclusives.

Their excuse for a price raise is just ridiculous. We've been paying the same amount for years now, but nothing *new* has come up. And I hope it's not for Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm, etc... Because all that's free on the computer.

I'll be over it tomorrow. I just heard about it on another website, and got kind of irked by it.

Not really a big deal, it's only $10 on a year, I don't think it's going to make too many people stop playing XBL.

It's called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflation.
And any inflation calculator will show you those new numbers are fairly reasonable.

I just renewed my one year subscription, so this (hopefully) won't affect me until next year, ha!

As soon as I get my PC(which will be in a few months) I'm done with Xbox Live.

EDIT: And my subscription doesn't end until october.

Yeah basically. I'm not surprised, but it doesn't bother me either. I use XBox Live quite a bit, and even though I don't like that you have to buy Microsoft Points, it is still a very convenient service.

I just love the way that not only are they charging for a service everyone else provides for free, not only are they upping the price, but they're also advertising on it! And people *accept* this!

It just seems mad, to me. Having said that, it seemed mad that people were willing to pay for an online service almost entirely based around peer-to-peer play, so maybe I'm just not "with it" anymore. Charging for things that used to be free, and have no reason not to be free, is ok now!

(And before anybody mentions, I'm fine with them charging for things like netflix. But basic online play? Why the [censored].)

If all you want to do is play games online then you're paying extra for things you'll never use. Not to mention the majority of said content is either free on every other device/platform under the sun or requires an addition subscription (Netflix). It's ridiculous IMO.

Considering Xbox Live is primarily a means by which to play your games online, pricing should reflect that, with anything else being optional. They're preying on people, knowing that they'll accept the price hike under the guise of inflation and added "features" because their online gaming is forcefully bundled in with it.

You might want to ask a mod to add "in cost" or something to the title...

Thought about getting me an Xbox360 to get into the 360 scene...guess this will persuade me differently. Kind of like the setup sony has right now where paying is optional and gets you some great stuff like free games and the like.

Yes that is true as well. I am kind of the opposite though. I never play games online, but do download added content and tv shows (and sometimes movies). I suppose Microsoft should have some kind of much cheaper plan just for people who want to use it for online gaming.

I'll just stick to my old strategy. Wait till they send me a free month of live.
It's worked so far. I have gotten exactly two free months of live in 3 years.

The only game I really play right now is Street Fighter. And I've played on both the 360 and PS3 online. If it wasnt for Street Fighter, I would not bother paying the Live subscription. so, even though playing online on the PS3 is free, the online experience is not as good as the 360, where playing online with the 360 is a great experience, espescially when it comes to SF4

Can also still get 16 player GRAW games going on Live.

It's going to be 10 bucks more per year, how is this a major issue? Especially considering how much extra content there is available and all the new features and such.

Funny how people complain about paying $60 USD a year to play on line and yet some continue to shell out $150+ a year for MMOs...
