Xbox Live Rewards Program

Post » Fri Jun 13, 2014 8:38 am

I signed up for the Xbox Live rewards program when it started. It's basically where you earn points by just using your live account. The points are used to purchase games, add-ons, DLC, etc.

I still play on the 360 and don't own an Xbox One. I used to buy all sorts of stuff from the Xbox marketplace and racked up loads of points over the years. Well for the past two years my xbox live account has been automatically renewed for a full year and both times I've been confused as to why. Turns out I earned the lifetime renew award and my live account will never be charged for a gold subscription to xbox live. At $60 a year that's $120 I've saved. Not to mention all the points I've earned.

Is anyone else a member of xbox live rewards?

I don't trust them - I'm not even sorry, it's just the way they hide how to get out of GOLD once you get in and their whole money grubbing way of doing business.

When you sign up for gold they automatically set it up so that a year later they debit your account for a renewal - and they try to slide it past you as an "OH BY THE WAY..."

They fully expect you to be stupid enough to forget about it and not even notice when your account is lighter by that amount of cash.

SIXTY BUCKS is not a small amount of cash to turn up missing

It took me a lot of my own time to find where they hid the way to cancel GOLD - the directions they gave were just plain incorrect and I had to find the way out with my own skills.

~ and my time is worth money.

SCREW LIVE! It's a scam....

The only GOLD about it is YOURS going into their pockets

And what does it do? It opens up new channels for them to sell things to you that you probably don't even care about...

You can BUY music

You can BUY videos

You can PAY FOR movie rentals

You can BUY games....

And the free games are pure crap.

Study that....

The last thing on earth I need is a salesman in my own fooking house! :stare:

When I want something, I go out on AMAZON or E-BAY and get EXACTLY what I want.

THAT time, and only then

ANYONE who tries to FOOL me I cut off at once.

If MICROSOFT thought I was a fool, they were badly mistaken

A bit cynical. The free games they've gave were, in my subjective opinion, pretty good (IE, saints row 3, Hitman)

And I never had any issue canceling my LIVE membership when I had to a few years ago, in fact I was suprised that they didn't try to offer me something to stay. On that note, it's clearly outlined if you want auto-renewal or not.

Of couse you have to pay for LIVE and the stuff you buy on it. Your covering the cost of the bandwidth, the multiplayer services, and such. You still need to pay for the movies or games like anywhere else so the dev's make money.

IDK, maybe you just had a bad experience, but I love LIVE and think I'm more than getting my worth from what I pay.

EDIT: Im not trying to say your lying or even wrong. Just providing another point of view on the matter :P

OT: I have rewards, I've had it for awhile. While I never got free service from it (lucky you), I've gotten loads of MS points and a few nice rebates and discounts.

I messed around with it a while back, and upon seeing this thread I checked it out again. I had 1400 credits. How much is that worth?

Yes, I use it. I usually fill out the monthly survey at the beginning of every month for some easy points. Generally I save up a ton of money then spend it on map packs or DLC for single player games, which in turn gives me a rebate. Never knew there was a reward like that though.

also i would liek to know what you need to do in order to get free gold subscription for life that sounds useful lol :P

also to user that couldn't cancel why didnt you just use pre paid cards if you were not gonna renew it yearly ?
