1GB extra disc space would definitely be advantageous to a game like Skyrim :)

Yeah, it is great.. Seen this before on here actually, but all I know it would be very good for a game like Skyrim, although I think having a 1gb extra is good, but I would prefer it if they went for something similar to Blu-Ray.

This has already been discussed. If it can somehow be worked into Skyrim, I'm sure Bethesda and Microsoft would both love it, but it may be too late in development to truly take advantage of it in a meaningful way, barring maybe less compressed audio.

An extra gig of audio quality is just fine by me...

I'm sure this update won't be released before Skyrim gets send to the printing press, but it would be nice if it was.

That has nothing to do with it running faster.

Bethesda has said that they add new dungeons all the time. Maybe the extra 1gb is the reason they're adding more.

You know Blu ray even holds way more than this new disc with an extra 1gb, right?

I assume Beth will use this update, I don't understand why people think it will not. Its not a complex up date, before that 1 GB of disk space was used for security stuff(from the little I have read) now that is being rewritten. So the GB is free, Beth won't be printing disk for over 6 months from now, and they will probably use the new dev kits as well. Hell there all ready doing consumer testing on it, that shows you how far along it is.

I think it might be too late in development for them to adapt plus we also have to factor in the PS3 and the PC.

Yes I know this. Don't tell me, tell Microsoft.

How late it is in the development process shouldn't be an issue as it is a disc formatting process and not a game development process.

Yes, but the update might not be ready before Skyrim gets printed.

Aye. 25 gbs for a single-layered disk, 50 for a dual-layered... so much unused potential... :sadvaultboy:

No we don't. The PS3 uses a Blu-Ray format, so it's good unless Bethesda wants to release a game over 10 times Oblivion's size and PCs can just go with the old route of having multiple disks and installing them. Just out of curiousity, though, is the 360's disk format really so limited as to limit Skyrim's content to any noticeable degree? Is a hard drive currently a standard feature of 360's so they could release two disks while allowing one to be installed onto a 360? How have compression techniques advanced since Oblivion's release? Taking into account the obviously more detailed textures and more diverse audio of Skyrim (supposedly... with all the new voice-acting and all, though the lack of unique dialogue to individual NPCs may make some space), should the limited size of the 360's disk format really be a concern?

Factor what in? 360 has the smallest storage space even with this extra gig.

I wonder if it's too late for Bethesda to utilize this new disc format to add extra content or better visuals.

Actually you bring up a valid point , due to a more Havoc direct usage we have more space then ever for better graphics, ect,... since Havoc is the know leader in compression tech,... one of the reasons I am excited for the games release I love the Havoc physics engines for everything from environment movement to cloth and hair, they are the ones we can thank for the upgrade in movement in the fallout NV.

The average game on steam is less then 10GB so I doubt it matters. Frankly uncompressed audio wont make the game magically better or render compressed audio version inferior and lousy. If games ever came standard even at 50GB your isp might throttle your bandwidth.

25GB of disc space won't do a thing without the RAM to back it up.
