Xbox One Elite consol. For those who have it, what do you...

Post » Mon Nov 09, 2015 12:04 pm

With Fallout 4 coming, I am running out of storage for my games. With my son playing his Call of Duty games, it might be time to get a new Xbox One. There is no way we both can play at the same time. So I am thinking of getting the Elite but want to make sure before I spend the extra money on it, that it's worth it for me.

For those who have the Xbox One Elite bundle the new controller and console, what do you think of the new console? My wife bought me the controller so I know about it, but since I haven't used it yet I maybe able to return it. She was told it can be returned and I was thinking of maybe doing this and getting the Elite bundle. I just want to make sure before I buy if it's really worth it.

So how are the loading times? Is it really faster? I read boot times is about 20% faster but I find it boots up pretty good already for me, so this is not a big deal. But if load times are faster that would be great since that is one of my complaints about Witcher 3, load times are long. I am afraid Fallout 4 load times can be long as well, so I am wondering if the Elite console would improve this or not.

If you're looking for a new console to save space, you can save quite a bit of money by buying an external hard drive. I bought a 4TB drive for about $120 on Amazon.

If you're looking to buy the new console because play time is hard, then the Elite may be worth it.

Let's get something out of the way: The new Elite/XBox One consoles have the new OS installed on them. However, everyone will be getting it next Thursday. The performance "gain" comes down to the redesign of the entire software package. The new console may require updates, but it won't be a complete re-write like the rest of us will deal with.

The Elite is about the controller, and getting a bundle will save you about $60. Worth it? That's going to be subjective, but for me, hell yes is about as "worth it" as I can get.

The controller is fully customizable and it's built very well. It's comfortable, and this alone will save you $100+ over the years because you won't be replacing the crap plastic ones that come with the standard package (and one of mine is already showing signs of stick wear, and it's not even a year old). You may want to hold onto it rather than return it.

If you're not inclined to have a customized controller, there are other bundles out there which will be cheaper (and some will come with games). You can spend the extra $ on an external hard drive. The 1TB drives will still be too small. A ridiculous decision on Microsoft's part, imo.

The choice is up to you. :)

I love the controller. Much better than the one on my old Xbox1.(I had to sell it a few months ago to pay bills).

Thank you both so very much. I talked to the wife, and she was about to buy me the Fallout 4 bundle at Best Buy. You also get CoD Black Ops 3 for free but since I already bought it for my son, I said don't really need it then. Rather have the Xbox Elite if getting something new. So will go tomorrow and pick it up.

Sadly the Fallout 4 bundle is not the new Elite console. Would have gotten that. So Will get the new Elite, then get Fallout 4, and pre-install it so it will be ready for Tuesday when I get home. :D

Again, thank you really appreciate it.

Anytime, though I still recommend the external hard drive. Fallout 4 takes up nearly 28GB of space. ;)

Did I screw up? The Xbox auto updated and to me, I have the same screens that I did with the my other Xbox One. Is the new OS with a different screen as well? If so, should I do a factory default and restart it on again without access to the internet so it doesn't auto update?

Just got my new Elite yesterday here's what happened

Unboxing - magnificent - it was beautiful to behold in all its many shades of black except for the tissue paper which was off white - hmmm

Holding the controller for the first time - heavy - but a thing of beauty - those paddles sit perfectly

Turning it on - instant update 2gb - ok... update gets to 94% and fails, try again and it redownloads the whole 2gb again and again fails at 94% - what the..?

Go online read forums learn I need to set DNS to Googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 because... no idea why but just do it and the upload works fine

Cool - now wonder why I can't configure the controller - duh - read instructions... ok need to download an app... do that... at same time download some games from Gold I had got for free... 2 hours later wonder why it is taking so long to download...

Check Bandwidth usage... downloading at less than 1mb/s what the...? Back online to find out what's going on... read I need to flush the alternate mac address... do that ... now up to 14mb/s wish I could send my family out to the movies for a couple of hours so I could have internet to myself

Download controller app... boot it up... nothing... what the..?

Check xbox live service status... they are having a bad day... sigh... plug pc headset into the Y splitter I got for $15 into the controller and test it out... perfect - I can hear friends, they can hear me, and I can hear the sounds of the xbox... well at least I didn't have to buy a new headset

Get trolled by my son who has a PS4 who tells me everything just works perfectly on his console... think about setting up mac addresses for everyone in the house except him... have a walk outside while game still downloads in background... eventually go to bed thinking wow I have a new Elite this is so cool... can't wait for it to all just work

I can't wait to use one of these on my PC but something tells me it will be awhile and I will probably have to update to W10 as well.

Well one complain I have about the Elite. This is not just Microsoft but ever fracking company. We are not really getting a 1 terabyte hard drive. Turn on, nothing installed yet and only have 750 gigs for games. WTF?! When you advertise 1 TB you should have 1TB non of this crap about OS and what not. So misleading.

But oh Illuminiel is correct. It is a thing of beauty though. Love LOVE the feel of the controller in my hand. But man, need to get use to those paddles. Guess playing for about 14 years with no paddles this will take getting use to. Telling the right thumb to hit ABXY, now need to teach thumb not to get off the thumb stick and use the other fingers that did nothing.

No, you didn't screw up. Microsoft is just prepping consoles before Thursday.

That's when the entire OS changes to Windows 10. If you have "instant on" enabled, most of these updates will happen automatically.

The dashboard update, and the final install, will prompt you on Thursday.
