Xbox One no video on Sony Bravia

Post » Sun Nov 08, 2015 11:50 pm

So I am getting to the end of things to try with this. About a month ago a co worker of mine gave me a fairly old Sony Bravia, by old I mean pretty much just before HDMI became a standard. So it only has one HDMI port and cannot do anything past 1080i. I got an Xbox One when Halo came out. I have been playing games on my Xbox One on this exact TV since then up until today. I woke up today, went to turn on my Xbox One and there is no picture. Nothing changed, I changed no settings, there has been no updates, nothing. I even tried a different HDMI cable and I tried the trick to reset the Xbox Ones picture by holding the power and the eject button at the same time. So I brought it to my newer Vizio TV, it worked perfectly fine on my vizio. The display was also reset so I know that worked. I also use my computer on the Bravia (I have an HDMI switch) and there is no problem with that either.

Any ideas on what could cause this?

I tried it without the switch too, with a different HDMI cable even.

I know with some TVS you can do a hard reset to factory settings on it. For example your Vizio is done by unplugging the TV then holding the power and input buttons at the same time for 30 seconds.

I would check into how to do this on the Bravia.

Greetings Cabius. Is the older TV a Vizio? It may very well be the hdmi port on the TV itself is broken. I have a Vizio TV with multiple hdmi ports and 3 out of the 4 have gone bad. I googled it and it seems A lot of Vizio TV's have this inherent problem. There is a work around that may get the port working again. Sorry I don't have the link to the article. Try googling it.

Edit: Just noticed Dark Sun's post above. His suggestion about resetting the TV is the workaround I think.

Actually, there has been an update to the XBox One, though it's not required to confirm. Getting ready for next Thursday's rollout of the new OS, Microsoft has been pushing smaller updates to consoles. Most of these changes aren't noticeable.

With older HDMI sets, there isn't "handshaking" that's now standard with HDMI (such as CEC). It's quite possible the console is now pushing 1080p and your TV can't accept it.

If your console settings are set to "auto", this may not work with your TV since this uses the "handshaking" feature. Try manually adjusting the setting to 1080i on the console and see if this restores the picture.

If this doesn't correct the problem, then there's a good chance the Bravia can't use the latest HDMI features the XBox One supports, so you may need a new TV.

Yeah Xbox One does not support 1080i, I had to have it at 720p. When I plugged it into a different tv I switched the setting to 720p and it still wouldn't work on the Bravia.

And Leviticus, like I said the tv only has one HDMI port which works fine with my PC.

I just went back down to my 32 inch Vizio, it has a crisper picture because it is newer and smaller. But It seems so tiny compared to the 50 inch.

I can't use my Vizio. It has too much input lag, which is why I know about the hard reset. To make it acceptable, I need to do it on the Viz everyone I hook it up, and it'll degrade slowly over a few continuous days.

Even in SP games it eventually becomes unplayable. Forget about any online play.

You can pick up a new TV fairly cheaply. Might be worth considering an upgrade if you're now stuck at 720p.
