[REL] Xenn's Strict Factions

Post » Wed Jul 28, 2010 5:46 am

This started as a request from Ghost - Ruler. He was looking for a mod to make some factions reject you if you're a member of other factions. This mod makes that happen.

Here are the current factions and who they block from joining.

House Hlaalu-Thieves Guild
House Redoran-Mages Guild
House Telvanni-Cult/Mages/Temple
Legion-Temple/Thieves
Cult-Temple/Telvanni
Temple-Telvanni/Cult/Legion
Fighters-Thieves
Thieves-Legion/Fighters/Hlaalu
Mages-Telvanni

Each has a custom rejection message - some simply a non-biased response, some downright sarcastic or mocking.

Enjoy!

Nice idea.

Does this work with a non-English copy of Morrowind, too?

Just for reference: GCD combined with the Factiorn Requirements of WGI does a good job of cappimg how far up the ranks you'll be able to rise.

This might interfere slightly with transport and item aquisition in Service Requirements, but that doesn't make me like it any less.

Good Job

I don't think so. This mod alters topics like "join House Hlaalu" which are naturally called differently in another language (something like "Haus Hlaalu beitreten"). If it doesn't find these topics in your Morrowind installation, it will just add "join House Hlaalu" and its dialogue entries to your game. Trouble is that this won't have any impact on joining any faction.
I haven't looked at the mod yet, but I suspect that it consists of less than 20 lines of dialogue, so that's something you could easily and quickly do for the DV yourself.

@Xenn: Congratulations on your release! :)

I was just thinking about this in my game right now. How cool that there is a release thread for it. That saves me a request. So, thanks Ghost_-_ruler for the suggestion and Xenn for creating it :)

Unfortunately, no. Like BHL stated, in a non-English copy of the game the dialogue used in the mod is non-existent.

Not to mention the new dialogue is all in English.

Thanks to everyone for the compliments!

How have you dealt with Fast Eddie? I presume he is no longer a member of the Mages Guild and House Telvanni?

I haven't dealt with him. Like I said in the first post, this was done on request. Maybe I'll change that in a future release.

Excuse me, what exactly are you talking about? An NPC can only belong to one faction, and http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj158/bhlmods/Miscellaneous/FastEddiessettings.jpg. Where did you get the idea that he also belongs to the Mages Guild?

Dialogue. Fast Eddie is referred to as 'He's a Telvanni that went rogue and joined the Mage Guild' by Caius Cosades.

That?s a really cool mod, making the game much more realistic. If there wouldn?t be my urge to lead every guild on Vvardenfell I would use it ;). Maybe in a later playthrough when I do some more RP.

Found it, thank you! :) I'm not sure, if that actually needs to be dealt with: Caius could just as well be misinformed.

About something political in his home city? I doubt it. Rather, I think the only reason Fast Eddie isn't in both is because NPCs cannot be in multiple factions. There are some other NPCs were duel factionship is implied, such as Legion members who are part of the Imperial Cult and Redoran who are Temple members. I'd have to go look up names to say who they were exactly.

There is also that rogue Telvanni who you recruit into the Mages Guild for one of the quests, although he's less of a member than someone who is merely paying the Guild to get them to shut up and leave him alone.

Um, looking at this list of conflicts, I must question some logic.

House Hlaalu-Thieves Guild Um, well, maybe
House Redoran-Mages Guild Makes no sense at all ever. Seriously? Redorans hate mages?
House Telvanni-Cult/Mages/Temple Mage makes sense. Telvanni aren't hardcoe fanatic athiests though. :)
Legion-Temple/Thieves Thieves makes sense. Temple shouldn't conflict.
Cult-Temple/Telvanni Cult and Temple shouldn't conflict at all. They don't conflict with each other in the game, ergo this mod shouldn't change that. Telvanni, huh?
Temple-Telvanni/Cult/Legion Again, huh?
Fighters-Thieves Makes perfect sense
Thieves-Legion/Fighters/Hlaalu Legion and Hlaalu? But, well, I'm confused.
Mages-Telvanni Duh. That makes plenty of sense.

Sorry, won't play this mod, won't even give it a rating...As I said, with a few exceptions, none of these make sense as restrictions. What next, you can't join any faction if you're a member of the Morang tong assassins guild? :) Because no one likes assassins...

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but really? You can't think of any reason why the Tribunal Temple and the Imperial Cult might have a conflict? Because it's completely normal to be a member of completely opposed religions in real life, I suppose... :P

etc etc

Actually, they make perfect sense based on the info that Bethesda has given us.
In the official MW walkthrough book, you can see how the diferent Factions relate to each other. This info is nicely displayed on the ElderScrolls Wiki.
See the Redoran page for example: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:House_Redoran
See the "Freinds & Foes" section on the right? = Mages Guild is -1

Good job Xenn :) This mod is perfectly Lore friendly as far as I can see.

Agree with Pluto, this is definitely Lore Friendly. I look forward to the custom rejection messages. :D

I mean, I don't think you can say the mod is ENTIRELY lore friendly. We know, based on dialogue, that people like King Helseth and others are members of both the cult and the tribunal temple. Also, there is no real reason for, say, certain guild heads in the fighters guild(one in particular) to reject your request to join just because you're in the thieves guild. There's also the fact that House Redoran admires the imperial legion, which would imply that one should be able to join both. But these conflicts with lore shouldn't stop anyone that likes the mod from using it. It's great for those people whether it's lore accurate or not.

What about being expelled from a certain faction? I'm part of the Temple currently, but want to get expelled and join the Telvanni as part of my RPing, can I do that wityh this mod?

I'm already a hearthfriend of the Ashlanders, Redoran doesnt like ashlanders, so does that mean here cannot be a Redoran Nerevarine with this mod?

I mean, he is a skooma addict, and the leader of a poorly funded, and far too spread out chapter of the Blades.

This is certainly Lore friendly... I only would have added the Morag Tong and the East Empire Company in the list.
Mainly the Morag Tong wich would conflict with the Imperial Guilds... and well actually... the only non-conflict I can come op with is with the Thieves Guild... and the Temple mayby..... although still... wait... no... The Tong wouldn't be possible with any faction when I think of it.
