Yay! First Timer Installed DaggerfalSetup (But...)

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 12:13 am

As suggested in other threads asking for help installing Daggerfall, I opted to get the preset DaggerfallSetup. I did install it, and it DOES run, BUT it seems pretty laggy. Sometimes when I click an icon (weapon, player info, options, ect) it doesn't respond, and I end up clicking it a bit and waiting until I get the menu I want to pull up. It also has VERY choppy sound (that start up screen with the TES logo sounds aweful with the sound chopping up so much...). The other problem is general sluggishness of the game itself (moving, attacking, ect. (I do have it set to slow combat if you think that might be the problem). Considering I'm running off of a gaming labtop, my comps power shouldnt be the issue (I did read that emulating games require extra power to run smoothly, but even still...)

So I'm hoping someone here might recognize what might be causing this, and tell me if I need to adjust any Game/DOSbox setting.

Also (even though this is really just a control issue), How do I look down? I couldnt even see that first rat I had to kill once it ran up to me (still killed it but I couldnt really see it) Is there a simple, reliable control configuration someone could tell me or point me into the right direction of?

Thanks a lot in advance for any help. I really loved Morrowind, and liked Oblivion, so I'm excited to experience Daggerfall, and just want to play it at its best!

CTRL-F12 and F11 to increase and decrease CPU cycles in DOSBox until it smooths out. You will need to increase them. You may also want to tweak the frame skip settings my using CTRL-F8.

Thanks, I'll try this out now.

(Sorry for the double post, it wouldn't let me edit the other for some reason)

Thanks a lot Scampers! That really did the trick. Its much more fluid now. Now I just need to set up the controls the way I like (dont really like moving with the mouse, would rather use it to look up down left right)

Aye, just set the controls to mouse view and reconfigure the keys to fit with modern games.

Much better.

Yeah, mouse view seems much better, and i switched movement to the standard WSAD, relocating the other controls as needed. I was actually able to make it out of the first dungeon, and went to Daggerfall City. Been running around looking at stuff there so far. Havn't done anything of note yet though.
