Websites and magazines can't really be objective.
I mean their business comes from the fact that video game companies support them and give them copies of the game for previews before anyone else, not to mention interviews and invites to close events. If they start running their mouths off about a bad game, even justified, the dev that made that game may reconsider in the future giving anything to the website/magazine. Not to mention other game companies may decided to not offer any support to that website if there is a high chance their creation will be demolished in the ratings and spoken ill of, especially if they know their game isn't really that good.
Personally, I don't trust websites and magazines to make an objective impression.
Nice to see some positive feedback.
(in before the H8)
PR at it's finest. Glad to see them fire back
Well ....."positive"... its advertised on their own website, so of course they choose the least damaging reviews for their "bad stock" and have a majority of good ones.
I'm not saying the game svcks and they're covering it up, but don't trust biased reviews advertised on the website of the very game they reviewed, it's granted to be biased.
Yeah! Right! It's like a big ol kick in the metaphoric balls to the ridiculous backwards reviews so far! Nice one ZOS.
I'm thankful for that list, as it's only the bad reviews that seem to bubbling up to the surface in recent Google searches. Gives me something to point friends to instead.
Whilst I love this game as a long standing fan of the series and of MMORPGs in general, I can't help feeling that they've cherry picked the best bits from reviews and have left out all the criticism. BUT this is to be expected, after all. No games company is going to put disparaging reviews on their own website; it's akin to shooting oneself in the foot.
I agree with the comments shown though as I think the game is brilliant. I do think, however, that it could be even more brilliant with some subtle tweaks and twists here and there and i've submitted as such via the in-game /feedback system.
its just nice to see a collection of positive reviews after all the negative [censored]e we have been seeing the last few days. Especially when the majority of beta testers are excited about the game.
This was my favorite quote.
http://www.tesoelite.com/2014/02/elder-scrolls-online-beta-impressions-story/ – “The In my opinion, along with Elder Scrolls Online, we’ve finally gotten out of that WoW clone thing that plagued the MMO scene for a long while – the game feels fresh while keeping that familiar, strong Elder Scrolls taste many of us grew up with.”
As someone who has played virtually every MMO out there, this is not how I feel!
Haven't even looked at the link in the OP yet but I can say for sure that's my favorite quote as well! I went into the beta skeptical thinking it was just gonna be another MMO without an identity but in the short time I played it, its really ruined all other current MMO's for me
Key word: how YOU feel.
WoW has been renamed as the base frame for the whole MMO, basically when you now say MMO you are saying WoW, and it's impossible to not find 1 thing thats in there, but I guarantee it, it's as far from WoW as possible, from pvp, to crafting, to pve, to gering to questing to exploring... well I guess I just covered everything haha, trust me, it's not WoW, by a long long shot....
But hey, again, its my opinion, just as you have your own.
Glad to see that many good reviews. Nice to know there are plenty of people out there who thought it was pretty damned good.
Respect.
I grew up with diablo 1, playing it sinds i was 9/10 years old. Loved everything Blizzard did and stood for. Now that its Blacktivision, who i know in my heart ruined diablo 3, have made me lose all respect in the existing big gaming companies.
And once again its all thanks to &E#%$*I# greed. Like there isnt enough of that outside the gaming world.
Agreed, this is all just opinion, and my opinion stems from my first MMO -- UO -- which I think is still the best MMO to ever release. This makes me... hmm how do I say this... I guess more perceptive and critical of more "themepark" MMOs?
You are absolutely correct an saying TESO is not WoW, but a lot of things they did change (or attempted to change) I wish would have been more different.
Did you tank any dungeons in ESO? Don't go into detail or anything, i'm just curious.
Note: Not an attack of any kind, just curious. Do you lean towards hardcoe pvp mmo's(full loot and stuf). Playing one right now(AFK mining, lol), the clench my thirst for ESO. Personaly i think they have the best game expirience potential of any kind of game ever posible aside from a combination of this and virtual reality.
Sadly this wil take at least an other 4-5 years. At least. Not even talking about the virtual reality stuf ofc.
lol, way to go off topic, hehe. Im an artist in it. Blame it on my ADD baby
it's too bad the feedback from the major game critics is pretty much all negative.
It reminds me if so called "high end" movie critics. If they say it svcks, then I will be in line to buy a ticket.
lol some of you are so predictable. If they post the negative reviews you say "omg see i told you this game suxx!!" if they post the positive ones you say "omg they covering up how bad this game suxx!"
The difference is that the initial area's are quite well done unlike what he assumes, they're quite different and not everyone is put in the same area and at the end "oh you're race X, u go to left" type of quest.
As I continually say, starting area's are necessary to be "restrictive" but even then you are allowed quite a bit of freedom, sure you're treated like a semi baby of sorts, but you can still explore and find quests/treasure, as a preparation for the "main" maps. No idea what they could had done better tbh, the only thing was to allow FULL freedom, but then no one would have a clue how to play the game and complain that there is "no tutorial" -.-...
You know what IMMEDIATELY jumped out of that list of reviews to me?
Eurogamer.
Have you forgotten the brutally honest review they gave Age of Conan at launch? I haven't. And I find they generally do criticise where its warranted.
While you have a point that has to be balanced by the fact that if readers stop trusting your reviews and visiting your site then your business is dead.
Completely agree, never had an issue with "tutorial islands" myself.
