Yeah but how do I look?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 4:34 pm

While I sometimes play the min/max game with armor and clothes trying to just always get the best protection and such I am finding myself more and more being concerned with my characters looks than anything else. Maybe it's because some of the outfits and armor are just so ugly. Maybe it's because going into 3rd person during dialog can be jarring when I realized I wore all the CHR+ items just for dialog bonuses. I don't know but anymore I just want to looks somewhat normal if I can. A hat that makes sense. Armor that matches. Etc.

Just curious what others find themselves wearing and why.

I'm loving how silly you can make your character look if you follow the best stats for whatever item of clothing you wear. Had a lot of fun doing that.

I'm only a little way in with facial hair, glasses and the police hat. My other half thinks it's hilarious, everytime dialogue switches to third person she start singing YMCA. FML.

I usually keep one outfit I pick for looks and then another for dirty work.

I'm pretty early on now, though. I'm still rocking the drifter jacket. It's decent Armor for now, plus my gal looks kind of adorable in that with a combat helmet. ;)

I like my guy to look the part and not look like he's wearing hodgepodge garabage like most Raiders do. I switch up the hat and googles for a gas mask at times but the goggles or wraparounds just look right in the wasteland...gotta keep that rad dust out his eyes when shooting mutants. :)

It was a trade off...then I found the Silver Shadow's suit in Hubris comics with 15 armor...not bad for early on

Still wearing a mish-mash..... vault suit + a mix of leather/raider/metal parts. Need to get a rank of Armorer, so I can decently mod some bits that'll look better. Oh, with a Minuteman cowboy hat + mirrored sunglasses.

For me it's mostly about vanity while trying to keep myself reasonably protected. Especially now that we have cinematic dialogue.

Anyone found any cool looking, dark armor that would look good on an assassin?

Its a mix between what looks good and the stats. I won't ware anything that just is god awful looking but also won't pick something just because it looks good. I try to find that middle road.

Right now I just got modded leather armor, a vault suit, fashionable sunglasses and a Ushanka (russian looking hat). Thought I'd go with something Les Claypool might wear.

I found a setting last night that disables this. Turn off the Dialog Camera and then you stay in first person view while talking to an NPC. I even did a happy dance when I found this.

I guess the second option is the best option for me. I DO like my character looking good and making sense, but i do not like my characters being suicidal, as no sane person would go adventuring in the wasteland not wearing the best armor they can find. I generally prefer a unified look, i tend to wear a set of armor that are teh same type and have the same look (like BoS combat, or Painted metal, for example). what i wear under it is pretty much whatever i think looks good though.

lmao

I'm wearing Gragnak's (sp?) Outfit with a teddy bear helmet.

I look ridiculous. But they have pretty good stats, so...

I'll post a pic soon.

I really am only concerned with head items, under clothing being a second concern (I prefer Road Leathers to Raider Leathers, but that is an easy choice because I *think* they have identical stats).

For example: I will forgo stats for a cooler look on my head. I have ignored found head armor that gives a (small) boost in stats because I didn't like how it made my character's head and face look.

I also once scrapped chest armor that had a high stat because it had some rebar poking out and up from the chest, which would glitch through the gas mask I was wearing at the time and I didn't like how that looked.

My only rule is no headgear because I rock the aviators so well.

I like to look appropriate for whatever immersive role I might be playing in my head. Until I run into astronaut lookin helmets, I love those. Right now I'm rockin a modified vault suit and a red painted motorcycle helmet.

Voted option 1. I sold and scrapped stuff that was superior to what she′s sporting now because I didn′t like the look of it. But what I really want is something similar to what the ferals wear for that Frankenstein look :P .

For the most part I usually just try to find a good balance between what I like for aesthetic purposes and the stat increases I get. This is likely not a terribly unique approach, but I usually have one outfit that I select that's predominantly for looks, but hopefully fits the character type with relevant stat bonuses to at least some degree (basically just means less switching gear around - especially now with all the layered armor.)

And then I'll pick something else for running around and dungeon-crawling that's a little more stat-based. I try to free myself up a little bit to experiment and not worry so much about the appearance. For instance, I rarely wear full-face headgear (because I just like being able to see my character's face,) but sometimes the stat boost is too much to overlook. So I'll just take the helmet off when I'm in a town or expecting to be doing a lot of dialog. Kind of ditto with glasses and hats, too - I'll wear a silly hat if I'm raiding a dungeon and it's got boosts I really want.

I still don't have a ton of time spent with Fallout 4 - a lot of this is just based on how I've approached past Bethesda games. I've been doing the "two outfits" approach for a few installments now. Hopefully someone will make a mod that will make saving outfits a little bit easier (even right now it feels like the organization is not great or easy to dig through to figure out which sort of Leather Left Arm I want or already have equipped.)

At the start I really liked the Drifter outfit - it was the most sensible thing I could find early on that looked appropriate to the character. I couldn't really find anything to go as a "base layer" for a little bit that I was happy with or gave me a good stat boost. So when I found the Army Helmet I thought it was a good fit for the bump in armor rating:

A little later I've switched to flannel and jeans with a few armor layers that I've upgraded - significantly more armor rating now. I'm still keeping an eye out for some base layer clothing, and hoarding anything I thought would be neat. And I usually ditch the helmet when I'm somewhere I expect to be doing a lot of talking (and primarily just for sheer roleplaying purposes.)

T-45C with Flames, Vault 111 Suit, Leather accessories.

I am playing an Explorer, when I have become familiar with the Map I will use a character for Military Uniforms close to the Vault, or transfer a Saved Game from My at Work Laptop. I did notice the boosts to Special from Clothing. I had a character with a cam gear that boosted Agility Two Points, but I lost the Save.
