Yet another place to beg for polearms.

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:44 am

I know for my first post it is uncouth to post a rant and expect to be treated with any favor. But I have been on a crusade to attempt to find knowledge about the existence of spears in Skyrim and to attempt to garner support to my cause:

I know that the only to date Morrowind has been the only game to include spears into the weapons list, but building upon gut feeling and the fact that in Morrowind Nords had a +5 spears. I know that Bethesda is capable of implementing spears into this Elder Scrolls and have more recent models and animations than Morrowind in Fallout New Vegas's Javelins and I would love to see them implemented as well.

This might just be my personal dream, but please Bethesda include polearms back into Skyrim.

Please tell me. What is your opinion on the matter?

I assume spears are back, Todd Howard mentioned in one of the GI interviews that fans wanted them back. Now I know this isn't a confirmation, but I think it's likely.

fans want an awful lot of things back. i want spears back as much as i want beast legs back...argonians look silly with boots on and a fully expect swamp/lizard people to fight with sharpened sticks. the battle lizards will rise again!

Spears back, yes! Qarl would be proud.

If spears are in I'll make it a Major Skill for me. I missed them in Oblivion, and they were underrated in Morrowind!

It'll make my hearth bleed if there won't be any polearms...

But now that I think it, I am not such a huge TES fan anyway, so maybe I won't buy the game if it has no polearms!

Hah, whatcha gonna say to that, Bethesda? Are polearms worth.... Let's see.... Around 40 euros? If so, make those.

Now I am glad in a quite weird way; I have so little time to play games, I can choose my games with such arbitary methods.

(Disclaimer: I will buy the game if it has proper modability and polearms.)

I love me a good halberd, pole-arms were the bee's knees in morrowwind, i hope they put the spear of bitter mercy back in, that thing was wicked.

As long as everything is properly animated and the skills allow for it (which, if they are indeed going with 1 vs 2 handed for weapons skills, they should) then I'm for as much variety in weapons as possible.

As long as they feel very different to other weapons and aren't just a slightly different animation, go go go!

It would be cool to feel that you had an advantage at the start of battle (getting a powerful hit in at longer range) but would really be in trouble if the enemy is allowed to get too close, because the spear is a little too unwieldy to block effectively. Or something.

Yes, along with crossbows, katanas, throwing stars/darts/knives and all the other cool stuff they cut between Morrowind and Oblivion.

Katanas were in Oblivion. Sure only Akaviri Katanas and Dai katanas, but they still were there. The rest, yes, I would love them back. And most importantly, Spears and Polearms.

Only the Akaviri stuff, yes. There used to be such a great variety. Have a cookie.

YES. Heavy armour + halberd, and shield + spear are among my favourite archetypes as far as character wargear is concerned, so I'm hoping Skyrim will support them. Not to mention all the other variations polearms would enable.

I must say, that from a race perspective, Argonians really seem to suit spears. Would be good if these came back, and might even throw Argonians in to my thinking alongside Nord or Khajit for what to play through first.

Yah, might sounds crazy; but the way he said it gave me the same impression.

I don't see why not. As long as it takes a long time to get there I've got no problem with it. In Oblivion you could mantle a Daedra, in Morrowind you were the reincarnation of Nerevar (plus the only person to ever get cured of corprus), and now in Skyrim you get to play a Dragonborn, who we already know masters powers beyond normal people.

It shouldn't be easy, but it should be possible. Even at that stage there should still be the odd thing to challenge you.

1st off, its poll not pole. a pole is an elongated rod, a poll is a question with preset answers asked to a general audience.

now that this is out of the way, yes i would like to be able to become very powerful in the game and 1 shot anyone ect. but only if it takes a considerable amount of time, not something that can happen right away.

I'd like to be godlike, with a lot of work of course.

In Morrowind you were the Nerevarine so you were supposed to be extremely powerful, killing gods and stuff.
I don't know how godlike the dragonborn is supposed to be, according to lore. Tiber Septim was pretty godlike wasn't he?

Tiber Septim did more than obtain god-like powers, he actualy achieved apotheosis. Mannimarco possibly as well. Lots of other mortals attained god-like status without actually becoming gods (a good example would be the Shivering Isles). So it would not be out of place with the lore really.

However, I believe the question is not well posed. What do you mean by god-like power? Being able to one shot NPC's / monsters or your PC attaining some RP deity / demigod status?
