Oh, yet another random dragon!

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:40 pm

Anybody else agree that random dragon attacks occur WAY to frequently in Skyrim?
Within at least 10 fast travels (or around 15 minutes wandering the wilderness) I will experience an attack from a dragon.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of random dragon attacks are great, but I thought dragon attacks were going to be a reasonably special part in the game, and bumping into one every 15 minutes does not make the experience any more thrilling (especially when they can be killed with very little effort, and end up filling your inventory with their loot).

Perhaps when editing tools become available the frequency of dragon attacks can be lowered, but until then it has become an extremely annoying part of the game.

Agree. They are too easy and appear way too frequently. Their attack patterns are the same 100% of the time and easily predictable because of it.. They dropped the ball with this one also.

randomness is always a double-edged sword, and instead of understanding that risk bethesda just gave us a really dull sword. dragons attack all the time and are pathetically easy to kill, instead of how it should have been where dragons are rarely seen but make you go OH S**T because they kick ass.

they are cliffracers 2.0 really

No. Since I walk pretty much everywhere rather than fast travel, I really don't see them often. Usually when I do, I sprint as fast as I can towards them to take them down.

One dragon every 20 hours of gameplay would make them much more entertaining, especially if they had a much higher amount of HP and were not so easy to stagger.

Skyrim is the first game to implement unscripted dragon enemies. There always has to be a first time.

I got a bugged dragon on my 2nd character. He just flies around backwards, doing backwards loopy loops.

I haven't seen a random spawn since.

I've not gotten into the main questline--I haven't visited the Greybeards yet--so mine are at a good rate, I guess...but then between there almost always being other people around to help and my playing on low difficulty, they're quite doable. Even when I was caught unawares once, going for a stroll without my good potions because I was hoping to offload some spares...it totally had me by the sweetbreads and then flew off when my health was low, giving me a chance to magically heal. The first couple were hard, but then that was partly because I was so clueless as to how to approach them.

Still, the drama they produce can be good. I had two recently (but I accidentally killed my follower and restarted), one of which somehow sent a cart flying into the air. It was kind of kewl.

I've had 8 total so far on my latest character.. 28 hrs played on her and haven't seen the grey beards yet. I actually have a word that is locked because I don't have a soul for it. This character is also only lvl 15 so that may also be effecting the spawn rate.. dunno.

I did see more on my lvl 41 character obviously but only a little over 20 killed in 140 hrs on her.

I don't mind them being easy to kill, I just wish they weren't so frequent.

I dont know, their frequency is a bit much, lvl 55 and had several dragons 2 at a time, and once even 3. silly seeing house wives run up and beat on them with their fists, at least give em a broom or a rolling pin.

Now that I play on master and don't spend any points in HP I love them. I'm scared, I hide and I wait for them to leave till I am ready to fight them on my terms. Dragons are back to being badass in my game which makes them so much more fun.

I really wish they would've made dragons a lot more mysterious in Skyrim rather than having you run into one every 15 minutes. I fight dragons in Skyrim almost as often as I did cliffracers in Morrowind :shocking:

On my new character... which I started over because of dam perk points and not having the ability to use everything... I hardly ran into Dragons as much as I used to. There doesn't seem to be much good areas for loot so whenever you get dragonrend sell dragon armor for a good amount.

Fast travel = way more dragons, each time I go to an open city (no loading screen to get in) theres a big chance 1 or even 2 dragons appear... Thats why I dont fast travel often, carriage doesnt seem to spawn dragons

YUP.

After the umpteenth dragon attack, I can already hear the shrill sound of a cliff racer attacking. Dragons need a huge buff and need to appear less frequently, because the gimmick has worn off.

That's what I was wondering. If the frequency of the spawns was decreased would it translate to seeing them too infrequently if you didn't fast travel?

The only place spawn frequency bothers me so far is Winterhold.

If your using fast travel, stop complaining. Your fast forwarding time with every usage, its no wonder dragons show up more frequently when your skipping days at a time. Start walking around more and then you will see that dragon attacks are not frequent.

And if they are to easy, turn up the difficulty thats the point of having it.

I spent 20 days (in game days) travelling all over the place, and only encounted One dragon. It was busy attacking a fort, and I was busy running from one place to another in werewolf form, it so happened to land just in front of me so I charged in attacking it as a werewolf. A werewolf can hit for crazy amounts of damage, alternating left and right mouse button so I took it down fairly fast. But, that was my only dragon, so no, I don't agree it's too frequent. I think it's all random.

I'm not sure why everyone seems to get them so frequently or even I'm taking you too bluntly with an exageration.
But I'm quiet found of how often we get dragons I think it is fine. My Dragon scale rug will be done once I've filled another 10 or so dragons :D
Next the Dragon bone bird cage...
