Yet another topic about CHIM and the Godhead

Post » Tue Aug 21, 2012 5:15 am

So I've been away from TES lore for a while. A few years back I spent a lot of time researching and finding answers to questions, particularily on topics relating to the province of Morrowind, the Tribunal, the Chimer's settling of Resdayn, and the Battle of Red Mountain. I also have a basic knowledge of Tamrielic history and the creation of Mundus. In all of my readings, however, I can't recall or find a single reference to either the Godhead or CHIM. There are no pages on these topics in either the Imperial Library or the UESP that I have found. Google searches only come up with specualtion and I haven't found any canonical evidence. I have read the 36 Lessons of Vivec but any reference to the Godhead or CHIM is either incredibly cryptic or just escapes me entirely.

So I guess what I'm asking is this; are there any canonical references that talk about CHIM and the Godhead directly? From what I can tell, everything we "know" about these subjects is speculation at best.

If I remember correctly, Mankar's Commentaries references CHIM directly. Quoting from memory here:
CHIM. Those who know it can reshape the land. Witness the home of the Red King Once Jungled.

"From the Many Headed Talos" mentions it too, which is in turn referenced in Skyrim.

By 'canonical' you mean in game, right? The 36 Sermons are all about CHIM, though he doesn't use that word to describe it. Look for references to the Ruling King. And, as my colleagues have noted, the Comentaries and http://imperial-library.info/content/many-headed-talos (read by the prophet in Whiterun) deal with it as well. The http://imperial-library.info/content/loveletter-fifth-era-true-purpose-tamriel discusses both subjects at length, and while it isn't found in game, many of its references were mentioned in 'canonical' documents after it was published. You'll also want to check out http://imperial-library.info/content/vehks-teaching.

What Lady Nerevar said, basically. The 36 sermons of vivec are filled with stuff concerning chim, anyone in-game with a mind other than a tribunal-obsessed preacher could potentially find these clues that Vehk laid throughout the volumes and come up with a conclusion of his/her own. While it wouldnt be the easiest thing to comprehend for a character in the game, its a possibility.

On a side note, I dont suppose its possible to contact MK himself? I know its a bit much to hope for (besides his special occasion posts) but still, i have one or two questions about Sotha Sil

He has quite a few accounts here at the forum, IIRC. The 'Merry Eyesore Elk' is one I believe. I'm pretty sure Lady Nerevar has a line to him though. But it is probably easier to just ask everyone else here in the forums

It actually took me a while to realize that the Omega MK poster isn't MK, :P I'm not sure what his username refers to though, besides MK.
