Yokudans...

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:29 am

Where did the Yokudans, or Redguards, come from? Were they Nedes that strayed away and landed on the other landmass? Are they a completely different race of humans that are seperate from the descendents of the Nedes(Nords and Imperials)? Are there any other creatures or mer/men still living on the remnants of Yokuda?

I remember the lighthouse keeper in Anvil saying something about ports of call on Yokuda. What does he mean?

Nords are not descended from Nedes, they are descended from Atmorans.

After the dawn the wanders split into many groups and settled all over Nirn. The ones that settled Tamriel became the Nedes, the ones that settled Atmora became the (proto) Nords, the ones that settled Akavir became the Tsaesci and the ones that settled Yokuda became the Yokudans. Its really very simple.

After the Dawn, or during it?

I don't see much reason behind 'all mortal life began on Tamriel,' except that's where the Convention took place, where time became linear and Nirn received its divinity. The Mundus had been a big, chaotic playground before that, and life does not exist in a giant ball of entropy. So was Nu-Hatta speaking in a historical or spiritual sense?

Mostly I say this because I don't like the idea of lots of Nedes hopping on rafts.

All humans basically descended from the same lot (as did elves if you want to get really technical). The stance I take is that when the lands where reshaped and the oceans formed after the war in the Dawn Era, the Redguard are those that got stuck on Yokuda when the waters came. Others got stuck on Akavir and others on Atmora. Of course there are other explanations possible, I just like this one...

And yes, they are a completely different race from the Nords and such...
Are there any other creatures or mer/men still living on the remnants of Yokuda?

Yes, not all the Yokudan's left for Hammerfell way back in the day so there are still Yokudans on Yokuda; it's just not as big a place as it used to be...
I remember the lighthouse keeper in Anvil saying something about ports of call on Yokuda. What does he mean?

He means that there are trade routes that go to Yokuda best I recall...

I was under the impression that the Nords were a mix of Atmoran and Nede, as the invading Atmorans intermingled with the Nedes already on Tamriel.

Well, during the dawn they were busy fighting a war, so I don't think they were able to do much settling.

I'm not sure if the Nedes left Tamriel and were just the first mannish race to come back (the war was fought on Tamriel), or they just stayed there once the dawn ended. I personally don't think that distinction is terribly important.

Historically speaking though, the Nedes have been on Tamriel for as long as they've existed. I personally believe Nu-Hutta's words were no literal (I am in line with your thought) but it seems pretty clear that the Nedes at least are indigenous to Tamriel.

They didn't wander. They stayed put and the land wandered. Tamriel is the name of supercontinent in the Anuad as well as the smaller continent after the cataclysm. Prior to the cataclysm, all continents were one, so all life originated from Nirn. See the Anuad.

"forming the remnants of the 12 worlds into one -- Nirn, the world of Tamriel."

"This war reshaped the face of Nirn, sinking much of the land beneath new oceans, and leaving the lands as we know them (Tamriel, Akavir, Atmora, and Yokuda)."

Which is why "Eventually, Men returned to Tamriel."

I thought the Atmorans were Nedes. In the UESP it says the Nedes settled in Atmora and the Yokudans in Yokuda, so if it's true, the Nedes and Redguards were seperate races, but had the same ancestors.

Yeargh, this drives me crazy. Why do we regard this part of the Anuad as any less allegorical than the rest?

That's because when I re-wrote the article I sold myself short and put the non-stupid theory second in line.

Because an allegory stands for something, and this seems more about literal consequences?

Mind the letter "U" in UESP. Its unofficial, which means it can be wrong.

All races on Nirn are descend from the Et'Ada, what's your point? All humans on Earth are descended from only a handful of individuals, but just look how diverse we've become.

And Po 'Tun, and Tang' Mo. dont forgt thm.

No, not them. The Anuad only mentions the Tsaesci. The Po'Tun and Tang Mo (not to mention the Sload and most other beast men) are a mystery. They aren't mannish, they're something else. The Tsaesci however, are specifically designated as mannish. Either they were always that way, or ate men to become them. We don't know much about Akavir.

I wonder if the Kamal "snow demons" might be a simian race, similar to Marukh's race, the Imga. Or could they even be like yeti? The "thawing out" they're said to do might not be literal.

I feel like if it fit well with other things we knew, we wouldn't paraphrase the darn thing so much.

There is already a monkey race in Akivar, and it is not the Kamal, nor do I hope they make it so. No, I hope they really are snow demons, or at least very hellish looking creatures that earns them the title of snow demons, not some cheap ass parlor trick, created out of laziness.

I know you're from Yakutsk, which, from my experience at the game Risk, is a very war torn nation, but thats no excuse for misplaced spaces and left out letters.

Back on Topic: The way i see it, Yokudans are just Et'ada who settled on the piece of land that became Yukadan, technically related to everyone else (Argonians, Sload, Akiviri races aside) via the Et'ada. They aren't Nedes who boated over.

The idea that Nedes are Nords was dispelled by http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/frontier_conquest.shtml text.

From what I have heard the frost giant from Bloodmoon was Kamal. But the person I heard it from was probably just guessing

Its only speculation. Its common speculation I happen to agree with, but only a theory.
