The the events that my character has undertaken whilst in Skyrim happened over a matter of just a so many years so ageing isn't something I'm concerned with..

No, theres just no way you will play a character long enough to have noticable changes.

Speak for yourself.

I've had characters that have lasted well over 10 ingame years.

I like to escape reality when playing games. I am at the age now where each morning I look just a little bit older as I look in the mirror. I want my game characters to give me the illusion that my body will not continue it's accelerating path to entropy and decay.

Damn right!

haha I hear you. I choose to do so to my character simply because I feel like he should look like the seasoned warrior he is, like he's seen some stuff and it wasn't pretty.

I don't want my character to look seasoned, I want all the bad guys to see an inexperienced greenie, until they die from misperception. :D

I never play a character for more than one or two months game time. So trying to age them would be pointless to me.

No not really. I haven't really ever thought of it. Especially since the most game time that ever passes is a couple years.

The fact that the seasons don't change (Riften is in perpetual Fall weather, Winterhold and Windhelm are always in Winter weather, etc.) kind of destroys this but also adds a mystical/fantastic aura to the world, in my opinion. I just assume some uber magic is keeping the seasons and the people the same.

Oh, I have some characters that are old grizzled vetrans from the get go.

My main Fallout New Vegas character kinda looks like No-bark Noonan lol but still better looking :P

Most people are making valid points about not lasting long enough in game time to noticeably age and that's because I forgot to mention that I don't go by in game time, instead I pretend more time has passed then it actually has. Personally it's unrealistic to arrive in Skyrim with no skills or weapons then within a week or so end up slaying the world eater, mastering the thu'um, become the head of Guilds, etc. If I went by game time then that means my guy has done all that plus built a home, married and settled down within a couple of months so I pretend more time has passed to make it feel more natural...hence why I aged him a bit.

Oh, I have some characters that are old grizzled vetrans from the get go. I even have an Arthritic Near Sighted Character with Parkinsons who is going deaf. I just keep my legs and arms crippled, and never zoom in on anything. I used to use a HUD mod that made everything blurry, but I can just rub my fingers on my RW eyeglasses to smudge them if I want that view.

Problem with that build is putting the SPECIAL points somewhere that I take out of Perception, Agility, Endurance and Strength into the 3 that are left. It's much harder to achieve this in Skyrim.
:lmao:
Interesting builds you got there. My guys are almost always grizzled from the get go but you've given me an idea to start out a guy with a fair face and then dirty and scar it up over time....perhaps I will start my first Imperial soldier this way and beat him up after he joins the war
If by age, we're talking younger, not older. I always make my characters as young-looking as possible. It just seems weird to put wrinkles on gray hair on a character, and then start scaling mountains.

If I do create a character like that, I'll be parking my butt on the benches in Whiterun's center and demand a Dragonborn fetch me an old warrior's helmet.
This guy would like a word with you: http://www.blackmediascoop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Screen-shot-2013-02-21-at-3.01.39-PM.png
Don't sleep on old people, I bet he's in better shape then you and he's probably at least 3 times your age :P
I generally heavily role-play my characters and they retire usually within one or two game years. That's all the time I need to see about everything and do a couple factions and maybe the MQ. I have never considered physically aging the PC for this reason.

Take for example my main guy, Eric. Did the Companions and MQ. Retired. Came out of retirement to fight vamps. Retired. Came out of retirement to build a retirement home. Got married, adopted some kids and retired again. Came out of retirement to fight some old Dragonborn. Retired yet again. If I was going to age him, now would be the time I guess. But technically all this still happened within just a couple years in game.
haha that's not really retiring if you don't stop saving the day

Will he ever truly retire and fade into fables or will he always keep his sword ready? I'm guessing if you're one of those who lose interest behind no more DLC then he's finally retired from retirement :P

Every character I have made is weathered and grizzled, beauty is in the eye of the beholder ... Long grey beards, wrinkled, missing an eye or two, scars, bags under the eyes, long greying hair that looks unkempt yada yada yada. Someone whos come out the gates of hell and back again.

Someone you would love to sit down with and listen to there tales of virtue and failure over mead and rumbling fire.

Not aging them at all - they are enough aged at the start. But sometimes (with only a few characters) I have used console to make their hair and beard to grow once in a while and to give them scars or lose eye if they have barely survived from challenging battle.

If so then how do you RP around everyone else staying the same age and looking the same? I've aged my Nords appearance with the face sculptor to look slightly more aged and weathered then he did when first arriving at Helgen but I'm having a hard time pretending that years have passed when everyone else looks the same as they did since day 1. You can say some sort of magic or daedric devilry is at work but it seems a bit far fetched that everyone but you hasn't aged a day.

I welcome any ideas or any stories about your characters evolving over time

Yep I age my characters as well now with the face sculptor :D As for a reason why everyone else stays the same age.....I just turn a blind eye to it, even though it does make sense I just choose to ignore it. I'm more focused on my character and his own affairs, I have no time to ask for beauty tips for staving off age, one would think you of all people would be of the same mind set Mr. Haggar.

I dont age my character but thanks to the DAWNGUARD DLC with the npc face changer who dwells in Riften i might eventually give it a try. I'll probably carry less gear and use light armor and one handed weapons instead of two handed etc as i get older. Might also become more reclusive and meditative while still trying to be of a friendly wisdom sharing nature.

After he had 'done it all' for his role-play the new DLC's were the only thing new he could do. Now it's time for him to just fade away ...

nah i think the skyrim story is supposed to take place over the course of a year or less, granted when dawnguard came out i gave my character a fuller beard, although thats just because i realized how dumb the sideburns were

ha we are of the same mind set on many things, this as well as my character cares not about the pretty people but it's a bit to hard to pretend that years have passed when everyone has stayed the same....perhaps I'll pretend that they're all secretly vampires or something and my wife Mjoll is just a timeless beauty :P

I make grizzled guys that have been to hell and back because it's easier to RP as someone that I relate to and that relates to me. I'm not quite as old or battle scarred as my main Nord but he definitely is a fantasy portrayal of me.

Not really age, but a few times I have wanted to make character at least look like he had just been dragged across Skyrim in a cart as a prisoner. You know, dirty face, bruises, and such. Once I got into a town, I could get "cleaned up" a bit. Alas, the only bath in Skyrim is in Riften

Time really doesn't pass that much in the game. If maybe 10-20 years passed, I could see aging being something to look into. As it is, maybe 2-3 years pass? I have not checked, but how much time passes for most players?

On my first character i didn't, but on the second one i gave him a beard and changed his face a bit. also after i finished the civil war i added a scar near his eye as a result of clashing with the imperials.

I age Chadric by the amount of days he stays in Skyrim. He started at 31 years old and now he's just past his 32nd birthday. To really age so he'd physically change a lot I'd have to be playing him for about 10 years! Hah! Fat chance! Nope, Chad will die an "El Cid" type hero's death long before then! But I hope to scar him up a bit in the meantime though. I don't want my hero warrior to stay a baby face forever, do I?!
