Do You All Still Play This?

Post » Mon Oct 05, 2009 5:58 pm

Well I just discovered I don't have to run Morrowind as an admin to enjoy MGE.

Well actually it turns out I do have to run it as an admin for MGE and mods to work perfectly. Oh well, I'm sure no harm will come of running Morrowind as an admin. :P

I am actively reinstalling Oblivion after finishing another tour of Morrowind.

Naturally, I took another tour of Morrowind after finishing another tour of Oblivion.

Anyone care to guess which game I was playing before that?

Oh yeah and mods. That is all.

Hey, the last time I played Oblivion was a few years ago; but man...I played it a LOT. Anyway, I'm going to be getting it again and I was just wondering how big this game's community is.

Thanks,
Paul

I do on occasion, but I have athletics taking up all my time.

Daggerfall?

Dragon Age :P Gotcha.

But I did want to slap it in the face every time it went to "hiking through countryside we didn't actually design" screen.

Yay TES.

Lately I've been spending more time downloading massive amounts of mods, realizing they screw my game up because I've done something horribly wrong, and then reinstalling. :P

But yes, I still try to play it.

Been playing since release. Huge reason is mods. I still jump over to other games in between and between them and Oblivion. Like FF12, I played that quite a while and finally got all 6 of my character to level 75. Then I started coming back to Oblivion again. Sooner or later though I'll be playin' Dragon's Age as well... and then playing Oblivion in between, off and on. :D

I've never actually played or owned the game. I download as many mods as I can and I am trying to piece them together to make the game from scratch.

I play it occasionally but I spend more time with Morrowind due to the depth. But I do enjoy both games. :).

Something I've noticed that might not prove anything, but is interesting: every time I check the 3 subforums that I am most interested in: MW mods, OBL mods, & F3 mods the forum with the most members by far is The Elder Scrolls one. MW usually has double the members than F3, and OBL has far more than that, maybe four times as many.

It doesn't prove anything as such, but it suggests to me that the modding community for Elder Scrolls is the most vibrant and has gamers coming back over and over again. There's something about the world of Tamriel that seems to really capture the heart. I'm not dissing F3, it's a spectacularly beautiful realistic game; but I have some doubts that 5 years after release it will have as high a percentage of its gamers still re-playing it. They will have moved on to its sequels.

I have noticed that I have far fewer mods running on F3 than my Elder Scrolls games. Maybe that's because the F3 environment was so well built it doesn't need that many enhancements, but maybe it's also because if I had to choose between living in Tamriel or the war-battered Wasteland, Tamriel wins hands down every time.

Nope, not at all. It got so agonizingly boring that I just stopped.

Morrowind, however, I still find enjoyable every minute.

Are you essentially trying to redevelop Oblivion?

I've taken the last few months to play an older game again, but I'm looking forward to getting back into Cyrodiil again. Great game.

Whoa! You guys sure are an active community! Most games this old don't have much of a community after a few years.

Yep, playing. On and off, really. My argonian is on day 1900, but most of that was spent in jail.
But the farther I go, the more laggy that save game gets so I'm giving that character a break. Could be hours played, too. He's almost at 100 hours.

The other thing that's interesting with Oblivion is the number of new users we have. Bethesda put the game on sale on Steam a little while ago and we've seen a lot of first-timers on the forums! I've had the game since 2007 and continue to pull it out every once in a while. I go off and play other stuff for a while and then get the itch and come back. Right now I'm modding as well, but I'm finding it hard to stop playing long enough to get my mod done :)

I played MW from 2002 to 2008 on Xbox. I got Oblivion in 2009, and have been playing that solid. I'm a platform guy, so no mods. LOVE Oblivion!

This. And I play on my 360, but only because I screw up with mods. :]

Very frequently. I went through a period of about two years where I didn't game much, but recently I started playing again. It's still the same fantastic game.
