Do You All Still Play This?

Post » Mon Oct 05, 2009 6:43 pm

Hey, the last time I played Oblivion was a few years ago; but man...I played it a LOT. Anyway, I'm going to be getting it again and I was just wondering how big this game's community is.

Thanks,
Paul

Lots of people still play it. Why? Well...

It's a big game, with a big world. It's not linear. It's cheap now, for those just buying it (or buying it again, possibly for a different platform). Also - and this is a big one - there's nothing out there that can compete with it. Still.*

Then, there's also MODS. :twirl: *If* you play on PC, you can make Oblivion so different in so many ways, and/or simply expand it, so you'll have new things to do, new places to go, forever! (or just about...)

* Hm. There is Morrowind, but I wouldn't say it "competes" at all. YMMV.

I wouldn't see why people wouldn't carry on playing. It's a huge RPG and extremely addicting, The reason I stopped playing it is because I'm saving money for DLC. By the time my Xbox hits the hay and I get my PC, I'd be modding ;)

That's the beauty of a well-made RPG, you can replay it countless times. There's no doubt about the fact that the Elder Scrolls modding community extends the life of the game considerably. I still play Morrowind too, and I am not sure I would if it weren't for all the mods out there. The fact that new mods are still coming in thick and fast also keeps the game fresh. But even apart from the mods I still find places I haven't explored or quests that I haven't done or at least haven't done often.

I′d like to say I play it as regularly as always, but due to recent (girl)problems I just don′t feel like doing it. I know however that when I do sit down and once again enter the realm we all know as Cyrodiil it actually feels a bit better. It′s like a good party. Everything is good in the meantime, but there′s always that hangover ready to strike like a cobra the moment you turn the fun off :dead:

But yes I do still play. Right now I′m in Chorrol, taking a stroll and chitchating with the townsfolk. Pretty soon I′ll head out to the Imperial Reserve, try my luck there

I use Windows 7 (64 bit) and, well, a considerably more powerful graphics card (fwiw), also with the latest drivers... and Oblivion works great!

Just make sure you install Oblivion and all mods and associated stuff somewhere other than Program Files, or Program Files (x86). Like, C:\Gamee\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion - or whatever you find works best. Otherwise, you'll have problems, no matter what drivers you use.

Just saying, that it might be worth your while sorting out the real reason it wouldn't work before. Who knows, you might be in luck. :)

Mods really improve the life of the game! Although I know nothing about Oblivion modding at the moment. My Oblivion is vanilla for now until I can sort through all the mods. I have almost a hundred mods on Morrowind though.

I've heard people say this all the time, but my Oblivion and Morrowind are installed in Program Files x86 and I have no problems. I run everything as an admin though.

Maybe instead of being an ass you could tell me what's so wrong with that? I need to run Morrowind as an admin or else MGE will not work. I don't run Oblivion like that though.

I still play Morrowind and Oblivion, and no end is in sight for either game. However, I was a bit late to jump on both bandwagons, so only recently have I done every quest in the game.

If the game was good yesterday the game will still be good tomorrow. There's no reason I wouldn't play now and there's no reason to stop playing in the future.

It's to do with security. Pointedly? The lack of it, in your case.

You don't need to take my (or another forum member's) word for it though. If you read up on this stuff, you'll discover this is by far the best - and easiest! - way to go about things, with Oblivion (and many other games) with Vista or Win7.

It's your choice, of course, but security-wise, you'd be better off changing your approach. Same reasoning behind Ubuntu's sudo system, etc. You can just run Linux as root all the time, but... it's not advisable, let's just say. ;)

Well I just discovered I don't have to run Morrowind as an admin to enjoy MGE. I do need to run MGE and the Construction Set as an admin though, surely nothing adverse would come from that?

And I haven't had any problems with having Morrowind or Oblivion in the Program Files folder, and certainly at this point it would be a major PITA to reinstall both games if I haven't had any problems yet.

Thank you for being cordial and not just posting a facepalm.

I have been playing Oblivion since 2006 - I have yet to finish the main quest, or even reach the castle north of Bruma where they Blades take Martin...that was in Vanilla Oblivion. Since I've picked modded Oblivion, I ignore the MQ totally...

I just get distracted by the crazy awesome mods, and start playing those. Then I get too greedy, add too many mods, and bring the game down to it's knees. Or I just lose interest in this particular character I am playuing at the moment, and start a new one. Rinse and repeat. And I still love the game (and the new mods) coming every now and then...

(Modded) Oblivion is my favorite game of all time....

This sounds about like me though I'm much more moderate on the mods. No major overhaul mods yet, just 15 or so game enhancement ones (A Takes All; Toggleable Quantity Prompt, etc.).

I have yet to get beyond Level 10. I have yet to finish in total any of the Guild Quests (did get INTO Arcane Uni with one character). I have probably only finished 10 or 15 quests in total with four characters amounting to probably 300 hours of play.

Just started my latest character too. If I can just moderate my play habits down to reasonable levels, I'll be playing this one for years.

I have the identical graphics card & I have no problem playing either Oblivion or Morrowind, so whatever is causing your problem it's not the card or its drivers.
