You are Lich. Where do you keep your Phylactery?

Post » Mon Mar 24, 2014 10:51 am

A Lich being an undead magician whose soul is bound in an object called a phylactery. The Lich can generally not be destroyed, so long as his phylactery is intact.

So if you were a Lich, what would you use as your phylactery, and where would you keep it to ensure no adventurer could destroy it?

Use a nice big rock, and then drop it into the Marianas Trench.

One would naturally think to put it on his person or near him, but that could prove fatal. What if you get bombed? What if your house burns down? It's much safer to place it somewhere else, but that comes with its own risks. Ideally, I'd work my ass off to go to space, and then shove it on the Moon or something.

Isn't that a quick way to die?

Ah, but then James Cameron goes on another jaunt down there, and brings back your rock as a souvenir. One drunken night, Cameron accidentally drops it into his swimming pool's filter system. The rock is ground up into tiny pieces, and James Cameron is feted as the great hero who defeated the great lich ZzarRethan.

In my bedroom. I haven't left it in years.. But seriously, my bedroom.. :P

Or, if I really did want to hide it, I could dig up a grave and place it in the guys coffin. Who on earth would find it there?

I'd use it as my toilet paper roll holder, thing. What do they call those. Those things go completely unnoticed by everyone, and who looks for a phylactery in the bathroom.

Graves are reused. 200 years from now, your lichly existence could end prematurely as a gravedigger throws your phylactery into the incinerator along with the disinterred remains.

I'm a Lich, undead and virtually immortal right?

Then I'd eat it.

I'll admit, I'd considered that possibility. :P

But then what if your body is destroyed? That means your phylactery goes with it.

That is where i would hide it, it's the old town that used to be where the city i live in is situated now, was only discovered a few years ago when they were excavating the area to build new docks and revamp the city, they had to change construction plans and build over it to avoid doing any damage.

A whole town underneath a modern city, why wouldn't you hide it there? i would probably put it in some insignificant house down there.

Graves are not reused in all countries. It could be some time until countries with plenty of land have to start leasing gravesites.

A grain of sand. Phylactery are also hard to break so you know.

They gotta be strong, so a grain of sand in the desert or at a nice beach.

Actually it would be going nowhere, because it would cease to exist entirely.

A bone fragment, and I would go very deep into the catacombs below Paris. The uncharted areas of course.

Conspiracy theories..

I'm going to presume that my body will never be dug up again.. I would literally haunt them if that happened, regardless of whether ghosts exist or not.

Some kind of inconspicuous tiny rock. Weigh it down a little, maybe inside a bigger rock the size of my fist and drop it into the Atlantic over one of those real deep trenches too deep for most submarines to go.

One of my eyes. I'd put it in a tiny box filled with rocks to weigh it down, assuming it would be protected from the rocks somehow, and throw it into the bottom of a lake in some obscure part of the world. I just want an excuse to wear an eyepatch.

Good luck.
