People with arachnaphobia have this thought that bethesda will listen to them and take spiders out of the game. I dont know why it is so annoying for me to see a "scared of spiders" thread, I guess my back ground and where Im from things like spiders and snakes dont scare me like they do for some pasty basemant children. God forbid we have a "scared of snakes" thread or I will probably get banned from the forums....

it usually arouses from a tragic event in childhood like they were trapped with a huge spider in a small room for a long time or something. You gotta realize it isn't always a bunch of little #$@$#@ sometimes its legitament. If people that have a phobia towards spiders just buy the PC version and wait for someone to Mod out the spiders

but thats not fair for them seeing as it will be the greatest game of the decade. if they have a computer good enough to run skyrim they will just have to wait for modders to mod them out or do it themselves if they have a console......Oh Well. Hopefully mods come to consoles.

Anyway, while I don't hope Bethesda to listen to them, and I'm sure they won't... they are not scared of spiders, they are arachnophobics, which is quite different. The thing is that they are just a bunch of pixels with the shape of a spider...

I'm sure there will be a mod to remove spiders for people who have a serious problem with them, but that is the best they can hope for.

Personally, I love the feeling of being scared, the more terrified the better. I would actually love to see some kind of psychological horror type ambiance in the dungeons akin to games like Amnesia.

I understand for some people It's legitimate, It just royally pisses me off when people act up and cry about something that can be fixed with a mod, like you mentioned.

The choices are:
1. Don't play the game
2. Play the game and try to overcome your fear (I don't think you can totally avoid the spiders)
3. Get the game for PC, and mod the spiders out (or wait for a mod)

There are many kinds of fears people have. From experience I can say that nothing is better than overcoming your fear, and noticing that it's not so bad after all. At least the fear of spiders has some sense - some people are afraid of crazy things like tall buildings. Imagine if someone sees a windmill in Skyrim and runs away in horror.

It will help them learn that the best way to deal with Spiders is a Battle Axe to the face.

Since it is an open world game, I suppose another option could be to simply avoid areas with spiders.

If you were role-playing a character with arachnophobia, he or she would probably do the same, right?

Even if it is an area relating to the main quest, I've continued playthroughs for hundreds of hours without even touching the main quest of Oblivion.

What I don't understand is, if you're afraid of spiders, wouldn't shooting a fire bolt or hacking one with an axe be something on you're to-do list?

plz go somewhere else if your not going to respect people with severe anxiety disorders. This site is not for talking down about those with psychological disorders. These people are arachnophobics.

I hate spiders. But an oversized pixelated spider that I can kill with my sword/bow/firebolt/axe/whateversuitsyourmind is not scary. Maybe because it's not physical. Maybe because I know it wont jump out of the screen. Some people are overreacting I think but I still know how it is to have arachnophobia. But this is not reality, it's a game so why bother?

I live In Australia now but I was born in Zimbabwe, Africa. We moved a few years ago. People should not find anything that is not physically real scary, I know some people cant even look at a picture of a spider but really... I find that to just be borderline weak.

arachnophobia is the irrational fear of spiders. The sight of a spider or even mentioning it too much can cause a person with arachnophobia to go into panic. phobias are irrational fears but its a mental disorder. An arachnophobe could not cope with seeing a spider in the game trying to kill them well enough to actually fight it.

its the irrational fear of spiders. Its not weak its a psychological disorder that usually springs from truamatic childhood experiences. Why waste your time making a thread just to insult and talk down to arachnophobes? Especially when doing such a thing is surely againts the rules. this is not even game related this is a thread about how much u hate arachnophobes.

I really don't see the point of this thread. If you want spiders in the game, fine, but there's no reason why you should push down those who doesn't share the same opinion and don't want spiders.
