I'm apparently starting to have dreams about the quests I'm working on, which is probably a really good sign that I've been working on them way too long now and need to finish.

I'm also apparently at the point of writing mods as a way to take breaks from my main mod, which...yeah.

I'm guessing it's probably pretty bad when people point out shortcomings of the CS, and I start defending it, because the shortcomings make total sense to me.

You've been modding Oblivion for too long when...

You mod the game more often than you play it. (Me)

You mostly play to test your mod(s). (Me again)

You keep a binder full of notes, spells, enchantments, potions/poisons, to do lists, possible dungeon locations and other things for your mods. And use separators to keep them organized. (Yes, I actually do this :P )

You have too many mod ideas and not enough time to make them all.

The only thing stopping you from making a mod is that you can't think of something catchy to call it.

done everything Dwip and Vyper said :(

...when the first thing you ask when buying a new game is "can i mod it?"
...when you notice bleeding items, tiling textures, bad landscaping etc. in real life

When you start to refer to real life photos as screenshots. (I do this far too often :embarrass: )

When you find yourself opening your internet browser and going to the bethesda official forums subconsciously, without ever thinking about it.

When you have a notebook full of quest ideas that you carry around in case you get struck with a sudden quest idea or a twist in a one you already have. (I've done this lol)

When you have to create a sleep package in the CS and add it to your "Self" NPC to finally stop modding and go to sleep.

When you start to wonder what the alchemical effects of a real-life plant are.

When you wish you could use fast travel instead of sitting in traffic.

When you find your game has crashed because you have reached the maximum .esp count in your data folder.

When you can't stop checking your newest mod's download page at least every hour to see what the download count is now.

When you mix up oblivion scripting with other programming languages. (I've started a java program for school with scn name and begin gamemode on accident before  )

When you cry once you realize your entire mod has been wiped out by a hard drive failure. (any self respecting modder would xD )

when you have more testing mod and WIP mnods then you have actual game mods.

when you have so many mods you cant keep track of them all

when you can build a dungeon while also watching TV and browsing two forums

All of you, get out of my head! :ahhh:

But seriously, should we form a support group or something, because I have nearly every symptom on the list.

I can't go anywhere without comparing my own landscaping with real world environments, or look at a building, inside or out, without wondering how to go about modeling it. I can't believe some people get paid to do this. I (or my gf) have to forcibly pull myself away from it just to get 5 hours of sleep at night.

... you start asking yourself what AI packs real people are running.
... you get tired and think to yourself "what resolution are the things in my room?"

@Critterman: You have no idea how many times I've wished there was fast travel in California traffic :)

Yep.

I sometimes judge shadows for quality and accuracy. :P

Did it a few times.

I actually got a quest idea FROM a dream. Now I've expanded on it a lot while awake and I'm saving it for TES V. :D

When something goes wrong in your life, you think of the Cs and realize it didn't crash to desktop.... it isn't there.

When you download other people's mods, not to try them out or ever see them run, simply to admire their scripting and see how they "blocked" it.

When something happens to you and you think "how would random npc from mod handle this situation"

When your created npc looks a hell of a lot like a family member.

You haven't beaten the default storyline.... you still plan to... some day.... yeah... right... right?

When characters in your save file cry... they know they will never be higher than level 3.

When you catch yourself admiring a script or a spell for awhile... only to realize you created it months ago.

When you try to figure out what said spell does and how it does it.

When your new years resolution was "I'll create one new npc for every day this month" ... -_- *grumble*

When you wonder what the random npc creation settings are on God's CS.

Wait, God has a CS? Oh dear... that explains so much!

Um... when you start making cheesy jokes about how God's CS explains so much :)

When you've done truly unspeakable things to your character or NPCs just to test out a new mesh or some gameplay mechanic. And no longer feel guilty for it.

When you script in your sleep, or try to solve a nightmare through scripting.

I've got a lich with a dwarven shield strapped to his foot that spent the whole other night doing disco moves that would like to talk to me about this very thing. And about the neck damage from the bad animations. And...

I regret nothing.

That's actually how http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/3407/sirkillsalotstatsjpg.jpg got started.

Except for the last one I have done all of these.

I mod first thing in the mornings before work. I figure I mod more hours a day than I work! I keep journals, notes and do drawings of armor etc. I also go online to find answers for how too's. Right now I'm doing research on weight painting.

I also have more digital pics that are screen shots rather than pics of real life.

Maybe TheMagician is right A Support Group "Modders Anonymous" :foodndrink:

I think we found the definitive point.

When playing the game MEANS testing your mod by running the game with it.

If I had any drawing skills I'd be drawing stuff as well. I have this idea for a certain room in my planned TES V quest mod (That I have such a thing planned before the game is even announced might also be a sign of modding too long) and it's hard having to keep the idea in mind without drawing it for this long. :P
