Do you believe in 2012?

Post » Sat Dec 25, 2010 12:57 pm

I seriously think that as the world keeps spinnin' post-2012, we'll see some sort of "new" prophecy come out.

It's happened with other doomsday theories, someone will come out and say that they didn't do the math right, or didn't account for X or didn't realize to use base 12, etc.

And chances are the new date will be decades later, so the nuts don't get too embarrassed over being so wrong :P

Seriously? THIS AGAIN?!

You know what? I do believe that 2012 will be the end... of people claiming 2012 will be the end of the world. Either they'll stop complaining about it or Pastafarians will insist the world has ended and nobody noticed.

Seriously. Let sleeping [censored] golems lie, man.

If anything, it would be either a very serious disease like smallpox, or it would be a flu strain that has a different structure that can't be figured out. Both of these are sort of ridiculous because the world's scientists can have this stuff contained in a month.

It's much more likely that a natural disaster would happen, maybe not on the scale of The Day After Tomorrow, but something devastating nonetheless.

Where do you suppose these diseases or natural disasters would originate from?

The world will end eventually, but this 2012 [censored] has been proven false and Mayan Prophets have even stated time and time again it will not end and that it is just the end of the damnned calender.

Guys, a renowned prophet has claimed that 2020 shall be the end of life as we know it! The repeating double digits are the sign of doom! Live this last decade to it's fullest, for it will be the last you know!

*strips of all clothes and puts on cardboard sign with prophecy written on it, off to New York City to rant to the public*

Other then the economy getting worse and worse and worse and so on and so forth. If anything does happend like the end of world and what not, then there's really nothing to worry about cause if the world did end---there won't be anyone left to care about it.

It's just superstition. A superstition based on faulty knowledge of an ancient calendar, but a superstition nonetheless. I don't believe in ghosts, why should I believe in 2012? :P

No, just because a movie said that the world is ending doesn't mean that it could be true when the world in reality reaches the same exact date as the movie.

So the Mayans can predict the end of the world with accuracy to the month from thousands of years ago, yet we can't predict the weather with 100% accuracy yet? We can't predict earthquakes either, or volcanoes, or most things, even with the most powerful supercomputer we still don't get close to perfect predictions.

How did the Mayans make this prediction? Did they even actually make this prediction? Is there any other evidence for the end of the world? How would the world end?

:banghead: <- pretty much sums up my feelings towards this or any other dubious claim.

I'm just curious why you think this is going to happen. There's literally nothing to support it that I know of...and that includes the Mayan calendar. What legitimate information exists that suggests it's anything more than profiteering off of misinterpretations that have been outed many times over? (i.e., some people just made some stuff up to sell books and other media) This is all giving me some very strong deja vu sensations.

My question is, "why does anyone think the world is more likely to end in Dec. of 2012 than tomorrow?" Why was that date pulled out of the hat? The Mayan calendar thing has been disproved over and over, so what is it?
