Do you believe in 2012?

Post » Sat Dec 25, 2010 11:34 pm

Anyone thought about it that the Mayans just couldn't find a bigger stone and they eventually ran out of space in 2012?

Of course! How could a theory based on a misunderstanding of the basic parts of a long dead culture *possibly* be wrong?

Haven't seen this thread in a while.

Answer is still no.

I'd say the same.

Bunch of BS if you ask me. And this is coming from a guy who firmly believes that reptilians run our planet.

Do I believe in the year 2012 itself? Sure.

But do I believe it's the end of the world? Most certainly not. Simplest reason the world won't end in 2012 is because the world can't possibly end until we get another seven Saw sequels.

Seriously though, the Mayan calender ended on that date, so what? It was pretty far off for them, they didn't have computers or programs to write for them, so they had to sit and make calendars manually, the guy writing it probably just got bored. What makes them so trustworthy anyway? They can predict the end of the world, but not their own end? If they were so damn smart and prosperous and had that much foresight, where are they now?

Actually the Mayan calender doesn't end, see here for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_calendar

It's just the end of the 13th B'ak'tun and the start of the 14th B'ak'tun, another time period of the Mayas. They even had described things that happen long after the 13th B'ak'tun so the year 2012 was not the end for the Mayas.
It's just the end for some hollywood guys :)

It's like New Years Eve for the mayas :)

If it does, there'll be no explaining "coincidence" to the wacko's ever again.

Thankfully, I won't be around to have to try..

Possibly something will happen, and the doomsayers will say "Boy, that was close!" :D

In my time, that hasn't been that long, the world should've been ended many, many times. Statistically speaking the possibility of this one being correct is quite small.

I believe that we know far more about life and the earth than an ancient defeated civilization.

I don't believe anything extremely big would happen. Nothing that would kill all of mankind could never happen just like that.
(long silence, waiting for "but"...)
BUT
Because this so called "prophecy" makes so many people believe the world will end on that day, it might (will) cause anarchy all over the world. This might (will) lead to civil wars etc.

Just my theory. If no anarchy will be seen on 22nd of december 2012 I will just grab a cold beer with my friends and laugh at the people believing in the prophecy.

I too have heard the whole, "The end of the world is nigh!!" crap before too. Y2K was one of those times too.

I don't believe in the 2012 thing either. In fact, there will be no 2012. Or 2013. It's going to skip to 2014.

Thats pretty much a simple answer for it.

The way Ive heard it is basically a cyclical calender, so it just actually repeats after 2012.

And then they got slaughtered by the Spainiards and small pox. SO they could nto make the next version of the calender.

So it is all fear mongering based on misunderstanding.

IT may essentially be the same, but miniscule astronomical effects were taken into consideration for each cycle.
Also, the Mayan empire had been in decline when the Spanish first set foot in the new world. The natives they killed with small pox were small tribes, remnants of that civilization, and had merged with other meso american cultures. The biggest threat to Spain's colonization at the time of the conquest of teh New World were the Aztec. Whose people died of causes such as casualties of war, famine, and diseases such as smallpox.

Also, the calender was never a propehcy, that concept came straight out of Hollywood.

the world will end when the orbital uber-weapons fall out of their orbits and crash into the planet in the year 103.5 F.M.

The guy probably got fired and they never felt like replacing him since 2012 was already planning quite ahead

This.....

I'm old enough to have heard "the end of the world is nigh" more times than I care to remember. Every one of those predictions was wrong (unless I just didn't notice) so I see no reason to think this latest one will be any different.

As to the whole 2012 world ending etc. I don't believe in it being the doom of men and all that assorted loonacy.

12212012122120121221201212212012... i do love the pattern of numbers. its cool. will the world end on 12212012? dont know. do i believe in doomsday prophecy? no. do i believe that the world is going to be inhabitable to man at some point? yes. it could be tommorrow or 10,000 years from now. it wouldnt take much for the human race to become extinct. one asteroid the size of a mountain hitting the earth. a supervolcano erupting. a gamma ray burst from a supernova. the list goes on and on. So the question is not will the human race become extinct... but when. the earth will recover from any of these and continue its happy little existance orbiting the sun minus man. Is any of this worth worrying about? no. if it happens there wont be any place to hide from it.

we are all gonna die.

fun thread.

Not in the ridiculous way that most people do. The world will not end, I believe it is a simple transition from one age of the world into another.
