Do you believe in ghost?

Post » Wed Sep 08, 2010 1:07 am

I applied to volunteer on a ghost hunting team today. I have always been fascinated with the paranormal and i want to know in my mind if these things exist or not. It is one of those things that has to happen to you to know for sure. I want proof that there are things that happen around us that we can't explain, and i need to see it myself.

I have tried multiple times as a teenager to find proof, i have had some interesting things happen. I got a ton of orbs in a cemetery one night, and some interesting audio in a old abandoned house. But alas, i still remain a skeptic. What do you guys think?

EDIT: PLEASE DO NOT FLAME PEOPLE FOR THEIR PERSONAL BELIEFS, THIS IS A SIMPLE POLL, DON'T MAKE IT ANY MORE THAN THAT!!!

My great-uncle lives in an old Civil War era house that Sherman stayed in. His wife, as well as a few of my cousins, have said they saw a ghost walking down the stairs.

I believe they aren't actually ghosts, but I think they can be put out there by a certain force (which involves my religion, and I will not discuss that, as it is against the rules).

So, do I believe they are actually ghosts? No. Do I believe these illusions are real? They could be, yea. It's certainly possible the illusions are something else.

I chose other. Ghost are most often an imprint of someone that died a sudden death. I always thought that maybe it's nothing more than a telepathic footprint left from the death being so sudden. And that could explain why some people can see a ghost and other can't, because they have limited telepathic abilities.

It's like me not being able to see certain colors because I am color blind.

Do I believe in Ghost? That Demi Moore movie?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nope.
I think that people are good at putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with ghosts.
Sure I believe in 'em. I've had a few paranormal experiences myself.
I mean, I might be able to chalk the things I've seen up to a combination of folie a deux and some weird kind of consensus reality, but looking for the mundane explanation to life's mysteries is just so boring.
I pick other. They are not ghost, but something else. Something that our eyes cannot comprehend.
I completely disagree. As Douglas Adams said:
Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?
Not when the fairies make a random towel flip itself right in [censored] front of you.
Then looking for the mundane is doing Bad ThingsTM to Occam's Razor.
EDIT: That... was a rather odd way to word things. Hrm. Although I like the second line.
I don't really believe in Ghosts, and I'm not sure if its that I never have believed, or if I've just become less and less of a believer after watching a countless number of the ridiculous ghost hunter shows on television.
Haha, I know what you mean, I used to quite like them, then th fact that they never actually have anything interesting in them started to get to me.
The final straw was an episode from one where they had thought that they had found the biggest proof for ghosts ever: they had a night vision camera pointing at a theatre, and in the background you could see a circle of light moving around, not an orb thing, but like you'd see from a flashlight.
The people were like "OMG, we were there when that happened, we couldn't see any lights, it must be a ghost!"
Turned out it was a guy moving the second nightvision camera around, causing the infra-red light to show up on the first camera...
I don't like ghost hunting shows either.
I mean, it's just silly. You have to get the ratings up somehow.
The most overtly paranormal thing that happened to me I've already described. My towels flip themselves while I see them doing it.
You can't make a show out of that, especially if it happens with no rhyme or reason. So, how do you make a show about ghosts?
Sensationalize the [censored] out of everything forever. Bam, you've got a new hit show.
I do not personally believe in ghost.
A better question to ask would "should we believe in ghost?" If we believe in ghost without any solid evidence, than we might as well believe in leprechaun or faerie or even Easter Bunny. But we don't. Why? Because we would require substantial evidence for such a substantial claim.
And that is why I do not believe in ghost.
The difference between Easter bunny and ghost is that there haven't been many anthropomorphic rabbit sightings.
Many ghost sightings.
And some people believe faeries are the spirits of the dead, so that's redundant.
I find watching Ghost Hunting shows to be completely pointless. If anything truly concrete was discovered in one of those shows, people would hear about it, without having to actually watch the show. It would be big news. Ghost Hunting shows are just an easy way to completely waste 30 minutes to an hour of your life.
What I hate is how paranormal things never happen to people who really want to see them. I would absolutely love to see something that I would assume was a ghost, but no, paranormal things never happen to me. That seems to be the way it is for most people. Ghosts never show up for the person with an infrared camera in hand. UFO's never show up for UFO Hunters, as well as for anyone with a high definition camera handy. It's pretty annoying.
Sure, I believe in ghosts. Just as I believe in smart Nords, honest politicians, Santa Clause, the innate goodness in Man, the possibility of world peace, and Tom Hank's acting ability.
That's anecdotal evidence. I could just as easily say "There have been MANY sightings of anthropomorphic rabbit sightings" and your entire argument right thur would be moot. And that's why we don't use anecdotal evidence in a debate.
Hey now! That's not fair! A nice, though fairly drunk Nord gave me the key to a huge burial tomb on Azura's Coast once. Though one wonders why he didn't go there himself...
Hmmm...
Nevermind...
There have also been many UFO sightings. Why hasn't there been any proof of aliens then?
Because ghosts and UFOs are names people give to things that don't exist, but they swear they saw.
