you can't block with a one handed weapon ever

Post » Sat Sep 03, 2011 4:13 am

What bizarre, twisted sense of logic do you adhere to?

Because before we all used to think that you couldn't block with 2 swords but you could with 1. Now it actually makes a little more sense.

Pete said "right" when asked if LT would block with a 1 hander+empty hand. Clear as can be.

How does this not make sense? Why even put shields in the game if everyone can block with a sword? In Oblivion you could just take a dagger as a mage and block without any disadvantages.

On the other hand, I think something like a parrying dagger would be a neat addition. Basically using a dagger as a shield (and not for stabbing).

But it really doesn't make sense, for certain weapons. It makes sense that you cannot hold and block, as you could with a shield. But you should at least be able to parry.

If someone swings a sword at you, and you fend off the blow with your own sword or mace, then the sword isn't going to cut into you like it would if you had tried to block with your arm. Sometimes game "balance" breaks common sense.

shield + one handed. Yeah, obviously you can't block while dual wielding. The dw power animation would then be greatly unbalanced.

One of those No's was regarding bashing with a 1 hander. You can't do that. Only with shield, torch, or 2 hander.

You can assign a one-handed weapon to both hands. Doing it that way lets you block with it. If you only assign it to one hand then you're basically dual-wielding sword and fist. The latter bit of info is recent. The former we've known since [censored] February.

i'm thinking we cant't block because of the console controller lay out . besides , if i remember correctly from one of the play through articles , you can do a ''push'' with your sword . must be when you catch them mid-swing , something of a parry

That's a steel sword, saw Todd equip it in the quakecon leak when he first fought the wolves, he switched to a banded iron shield and a steel from his dual-wielded healing spells.

O' my word! The color that you used for the font makes my eyes bleed!

O' my word, seriously? You must be joking... my "coloured" font is just about the lightest colour there is on the wheel, there, one step away from white or grey, which is a darker tone and, frankly, far more difficult to see than my pink. I could be using this colour and then you'd really hate me, but I'm not. I could be using this colour with bold and then you'd hate me more, but I'm not using that either. I could be using this font and then everyone would hate me... but thankfully, I'm not. If you're not joking, please, fix your eyes or something... geez.

I would love to hear your explanation for blocking with a torch then.

sounds like there are just two different things pete hines said...that are contradictory

unless we CAN equip one handed weapons to both hands as stated previously....which would make all this make much more sense

No, it's not. This, this, this, and especially this is annoying to read. In fact, in my own opinion, even this colour is annoying to read. I think everyone should use white text, personally, I hate the grey.

Anyway, no more off-topic complaining about my text. What is this, hate the light pink day? It's a first, honestly.

If only we could block a full powered over-head swing of a claymore with a little dagger

Hold the dagger on an outward 45 degree angle as the claymore descends while sweeping your arm outward to 'swat' the descending blade. The blade of the claymore will catch on the hilt of the dagger and the motion will prevent you from being struck. Tuh Duh. Timing is key, true, but this IS an action game after all. You would think with a little innovation, they could come up with a really awesome intuitive combat system for duel wielding. But all we get is button mashing that is worse than oblivion's.

I think from the looks of things you can block with a 1H sword but Pete Hines said you couldn't at one point and that has been blown out of proportion. never mind just calm down it's not the end of the world if you can't (though I'm sure you can).
