sounds like an awesome thing to add too immersion.

I wonder if we can make our own fires too?

Hope so, would be weird having those eternal fires from oblivion/FO3 back.

Arkane Studios (now a Zenimax company) had Arx Fatalis out in 2002, and in that RPG, you can cook food over fires (in fact you could actually combine collected flower, water, apples, and wine to make an apple pie that you would then cook before eating). You could also catch fish and cook them too; and chicken, bread, various vegetables....

*The PC won't eat raw fish.

I'm no expert on this subject but doesn't Gamebryo have some problems with lightning effects on the consoles?
Won't a self-set campfire look ugly as hell with no shadows from the surrounding?

They might not look that nice but it would be nice to be able to set up a whole camp site maybe even.Have a tent, bed, and fire. I think it would give more to the "Wandering Wastelander" vibe.

Risen had a cooking mechanic as well. Although that game was pretty terrible.

so far as we know we can′t dump our own fireplace wherever we are, instead there are designated fireplaces dotting the world, kinda like workbenches.

I believe this is correct. hardcoe mode wouldn't be all that hardcoe if all you needed to do was setup a campsite every time you were hungry or tired.

I should make a thread for every little bit of information I know about new vegas. Might take awhile though.

I should just point out the irony here... and it's nothing towards you, just an observation. (had the same discussion on bedrolls earlier)

Many are asking for HC mode to be as realistic as possible. Adding this and that, to make the experience so real, encompassing everything possible to make it more of a simulator. So that said, wouldn't it make sense for the PC to be able to light a fire almost anywhere? But instead, that bit of "realism" makes it less hardcoe? So people ask that only realistic things that make the game more difficult should be included, and leave the other realistic things out. hmmm.....

I'm all for lighting my own fires wherever I please, although that may not be the case.

I too wonder this, not like fire animation would be too hard, and maybe we could also add an animation of the character eating.

well like everything in the world, there is a thing like too much

that includes realism in a game.

I'm not asking for anything to be added, especially realismwise... Fire will already be in the game. It's just a matter of allowing the player to light one.

I also mentioned just how it was funny that a lot of realistic things have been asked for, but some simple things that I assume could be incorporated easily, adding immersion, some people don't want.

well since there Fallout 3 mods that allow you to drop a workbench anywhere, I′m sure one be made for dropping a fire.

again the reason they did it is because otherwise there no use having the hardcoe stuff if you can bypass them *snaps fingers* like that.

hardcoe mode is about realism. Yes just being able to make a camp fire out of no where would be like :flamethrower: :flame:
But maybe you have to find the wood and then you can set up a campfire if u can find some sticks of wood. So then it would be more like :banghead: If you know what i mean
mmmmm that be cool if you could bake tho :cake: i wonder if the skill books boost your cooking :read: and if you have to give food to your comapanion in hardcoe mode :hugs:

Cook food over fires? Interesting feature, if it's indeed in. Would be fun then if you could just put some food on the ground, fwoosh it with the flamer and voila! you have cooked food! :D

it is when you play in hardcoe mode, in "vanilla" mode you can just eat food like normal, but in hardcoe eating raw food gives you less HP and less to your hunger meter, and there is a risk you character gets sick, resulting in a temporary debuff.

I see. Gotta be careful with eating raw mirelurk meat then. So there's both a visible "hunger" and a "sleep" meter in the hardcoe mode?

hunger, sleep & thirst will have there own meters, and most likly some message in the upper screen corner, kinda how you get messages if you reach a radiation poison level.

You can still cook in regular too. The campfire helps make your food more powerful (more hp), and you make poisons and healing powders and much more over the fire.

Hmmmm... Crispy Radroach meat.
Hopefully it is in but I wonder, what happens if you eat raw meat in FONV?
