If you can turn back time and start again. Fallout New Vegas

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 8:58 pm

I just picked up Fallout New Vegas and have never played any fallout game before. I played mostly socom and assassins creed. Knowing what you know now what would be the first thing you would redo when starting New Vegas? any pointers, tips? Thanks all

Dont you think it would be more fun figuring it out yourself ?

If it was me I wouldnt want to know.

But here is some tips.

Use fallout wiki >> and create your characters perk selection.

When you have your list of perks you know which "special" stats to take.

If your are a ranged build you should take fast shot trait.

If you are melee you should take heavy handed trait. ("though some believe this will bad in the end, it will end up being about the same and it will be easier in the beginning of the game where you need it ")

High intelligence is favoured because you get more skills points. And skill points is everything in this game.

Charisma is almost always set to 1 because it affords you other special stats and you dont lose alot by doing it.

Every weapon has a Strength requirement which is very smart to follow because if you dont you will recieve a bunch of penalties.

Wild wasteland is a mixed trait, some like it some dont. I myself like it.

Your endurance stat determines how many implants you can have. (" implants is +1 stats or 2 other unique implants ")

There are many types of characters in this game choosing one in the beginning will make it easier to make your character.

Here are some of them.

Energy weapons build - focuses around energy weapon skill and science skill. Relies on alot of perks like Vigilant recycler / Meltdown ( if you want a area of effect on death ) / laser commander / plasma spaz / math wrath / better critical hits. Its wise to choose between plasma perks or Laser perks depending on which type of weapon you want. Energy weapon I rank around Easy - medium difficulty

Regular gun build - Gun skill and repair skill. This build affords alot of ways to build your character because there isnt really any perks that you "need" to dominate. It is nice to have handloader perk where you can make almost any kind of ammo. Anyway I rank gun builds as Easy because you have alot of options to take what you want.

Things you need in a any range build is commando / Gunslinger / sniper perks depending on if want 1-handed weapons(gunslinger) or 2-handed weapons(commando).

Melee combat build - Melee is by far the toughest option to play but it is also one of the more rewarding. Melee has alot perks that you need. there are 2 types of melee combat. Unarmed and Melee weapon style.

Unarmed perks - paralyzing palm / piercing strike / super slam / Ninja / Slayer

Melee perks - *Pyromaniac / Ninja / Slayer / super slam

* Pyromaniac only works on 1 type of the weapon that is the shiskebab and its uniques counterpart Gehenna but boast good damage when you have pyromaniac.

Melee / Unarmed I rank as Hard - Very hard simply because you will meet 3 opponents and up in almost any fight with guns or even fight very strong monsters called death claws which will rip you into pieces. Not a beginner build!

holly smoke.. im excited to play this game. Thank you for all that feedback lolzz.. I understand about 5% of what you said now. Im sure it will become more clear after tonight when i finally get my hands on exp. when i used to play Grand Theift Auto i would just do a lot of small missions first to build up cash etc before going onto the main storyline. I dont mind killing time in a game to rank up/ build cash etc... so im sure i will take this game slow.

Fraggle, Fallout New Vegas is one of the best games you will ever play. here's what you need to know.

BE CAREFUL!!! Consider all angles before you make a decison on any quest. Your actions have consequences and the NPC's are all very human.

Once you do the battle of Hoover Dam, you can't play anymore, that svcks!!! So don't do it until you've done all you're exploring and have hung out with all the factions you want to check out.

Also, try not to commit or offend a mojor faction ( Legion, NCR, House, Independent Mojave) until you've made an alternate save file for them. For example, I had a quest come up that made me have to mess with the legion. I had no choice and decided to start another charector for when I finish with the one I have now. That charector is pro legion.

There are 4 main endings and a million ending that are determined by hosw you treat towns, companions and factions.

So be careful but don't sweat it, you're going to have a blast playing this game, I wish I was you right now.

Because you're going to do it for the first time!!!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

A heads up about New Vegas. There is no level scaling, there will be creatures/people beyond your ability to kill in the game. So my advice is go South to the bottom of the map, then go east till you hit a river, then north again.

You can go North at first if you want but you will most likely get killed alot trying to go north. I give you this advice because there have been alot of cry babies complaining that they can't take out a Deathclaw at level one with a pistol. They got spoiled by games that never have anything harder than their ability to kill.

I would have not taken the Here and Now perk. Seriously, do not take useless perks. Perks that increase the amount of experience you get, or one that levels you up instantly (here and now perk). Also do not take the perks that allow you to retry a computer hack or a broken lock. You never need them if you never try to force a lock. Also when attempting to hack a computer you can press the red button before being locked out to retry the hack.

Hope that helps. Other than that, figure the rest out yourself. That's half the fun in the Fallout universe.

What!? You stole from Goodsprings!!! You son of a gun!!!

Man, I'm gonna have fun living viacariously through you.

Looks like your only option now is to go south, Primm. That's another town. There's also a prison around there that has a doctor in it. Careful though, much like tattooe from Star Wars, it's a big collection of D heads...

Or you can go west, risk fiends and deathclaws and try to get to New Vegas...

Good luck, you screwed yourself a bit, but that's the buety of New Vegas, you get to roll with the punches and try to do better next time. Keep with it.

OH save often! SAVE OFTEN! That's my main advise. AND get the DLCs if you haven't already! LOL I have to admit that I was vilified by Goodsprings in my 2nd play through, but I reloaded an earlier game and just didn't steal the 2nd crate of Sarsaparillas hahahahaha

So, yea, if Goodsprings ran you off, try to get in good with the Powder Gangers!

Woah, you are already wearing a Legion armor? What the hey? LOL Did you come across Nipton and just started shooting at everyone? You know, you can talk to people, although I say well done if you killed Legion guys! =p

I actually didn't do much different in my 2nd play-through. I am changing the order in which I play the DLCs and I'm going for an Independent play-through (you'll know what it means soon enough lol). But yea, I just didn't go after Benny (MQ) immediately. He's still waiting at the Tops for me.

Just explore and do the quests in the different towns/areas. You'll gain levels and experience, before you hit "The Strip". (It looks so close at nights, all the lights luring you to keep on traveling, until you reach "paradise" lol)

I agree with my man Borimer, If you're dressed as a legion guy, you have some explaining to do...

Becareful, NCR people don't like that. Alot of people don't like that. You gonna get shot at boy!

This is where Styles would say "If you like NV, you should try Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout tactics."
Fallout one is currently free on GOG.com though

I still love playing but I wish I could turn the clock back and experience the best game I have ever played again. Just play and make the mistakes that we all did. Then learn and repeat :fallout:

3 is like new vegas, but new vegas is better. however, I heard that 3 is very good and many people feel that it's even better than Vegas. I'll play it myself when I'm done with new Vegas...

I highly recommend Fallout 3. It got me into the Fallout series. It's more Urban, and you can explore Washington DC (all busted up though LOL). In addition to the Urban setting, you can go and explore the Capital Wasteland. There are many places to be discovered and it's just as dangerous as the Mojave, although not as hot lol. Lots of Subway tunnels, Museums, monuments etc.

Both games are amazing in their own right.

Return Fallout New Vegas and wait for the Ultimate Edition, that would be what I would do differently. Ignoring that factor I would probably start Sniping the Cazadors at the Tribal camp every playthrough as there are some good rewards at that camp and a nice shortcut to the north side of the map.

I would also recommend saving OFTEN and making MULTIPLE saves. Sometimes things happens and you need to go back to a long past save.. hopefully it wasn't 30 hours of playtime ago

Just make sure you go above them instead of taking the north road. The Goodsprings Gas Station, taking that ridge and heading north staying on the ridge should take you up there.

I agree with this as well, I've never had anything happen that was major but you never know with Gamebryo if your going to get stuck somewhere in the terrain or some other issue occur.
