You cannot drop this item. :(

Hey one thing I absolutely hated about Oblivion is when I picked up a quest item and couldn't drop it. I swear my inventory was cluttered with so many keys and letters that were attached to quests that were long done that my inventory was needlessly filled with junk and I had a hard time navigating through it. Sure they were weightless and it didn't really matter much but it always bugged me in the back of my mind. In Fallout they put a sad face next to the message so they knew that we weren't happy that we couldn't drop quest items. Sure I like it telling me that it is a quest item so that I can keep it from getting lost but not allowing me to drop it even long after the quest has ended annoys the crap out of me. My questions to you guys are,

1. Is this confirmed in Skyrim? Am I going to have 30+ useless keys that I can't drop clogging my inventory like Mehrune's toilet after some bad giant burritos?

and

2. Does anybody actually like having their inventory cluttered with quest items that can't be dropped? Necessary evil or annoying handholding?

Ugh. I hated that.

The most perplexing part: I STILL couldn't drop the items, even after the relevant quest was finished. <_<

The thing that is the problem is to be able to get stuck with the quest items in your inventory even after the quest. Or obtaining them before you even have the quest.

I think you should be able to drop any item you want. If it is quest essential then taht is your fault for not planning ahead or paying attention. If that therefore leads to a quest that you can't complete, then that's tough and maybe you will learn for next time to pay attention.

Won't happen though!

I would like them to be storeable/droppable, but with some kind of warning. "I have a feeling this item will be important in the future" or something along those lines. I didn't like them clogging up my inventory, especially after they had served their purpose.

*edit: Where is the 'I don't care' option for the third question?

I think we should be able to store them in chests and stuff but not be able to drop them. There IS a reason they didn't allow it. So you wouldn't f**k up your game and be forced to start a new game to continue in the quest.

Or maybe, when you drop it, when you select the quest it's related too, a marker comes up s showing you where the item is until you pick it up. In fact, I think that's a better idea.

I want to be leader of the mudcrabs.

Then vote for the mudcrab faction option. I'm sure that if they see this thread and decide to add it that you'll be able to join and eventually lead the mudcrabs.

How long is it until mudcrabs are a playable race?

I'm fine with making quest items undropable until said quest is completed nothing would svck worse than losing an early quest item and not knowing until well into the game, imagine losing the amulet of kings in oblivion thats it game over you can't do the MQ, I do however think that once the quest is completed you should be able to drop the items like in fallout.

The way I see it, if you lose an important item it's your own damn fault. It's ridiculous that games have to hold people's hands so much and cater for stupidity.

ALL items should be droppable.

I tend to agree with the people who say that quest items should be droppable, but with a warning attached, maybe... "This item looks important, I should probably hang onto it for now."

The major weakness with Quest Items in Oblivion was that the Quest Item status did not require the item be tied to a specific quest, and as such relied solely on the devs scripting in the removal of the quest item flag, which they often forgot to do. Very easy for them to fix on their part, actually, just make it so setting an item as a quest item requires you to tie that item to a quest or a specific stage in that quest. This way, with option one, once the quest is completed, the game will immediately know that the item is no longer important, and allow you to drop it, and with option two, the flag is automatically toggled off once that stage is completed.

That simple.

Ring Of The Viper Eye a reward given after the Pale Pass quest is a quest object and thats a ring just stuck in my inventory now on almost every character.
I could just use a mod but that beside the point.

I agree completely with you. Also, nice to see you around the official forums. :celebration:

I feel like the Bethesda employees realized this in their own time playing the game.

"You know... this is really annoying. Why did we do it like this again? -jots note down for next Elder Scrolls game-"

Maybe. Or perhaps I'm just thinking wishfully. :whistling:
